I've recently become addicted to a Gofundme campaign. Every time I press refresh the total raised has jumped up and I don't seem to be able to stop.

I'm trying to stay within Mumsnet rules here, so obviously I can't link or promote it.

Does anyone else have this enjoyable problem?

Maria gave the TRAs a telling off. Fair play, they assaulted her at Speakers corner and were recorded being happy about it.

irretating · 14/01/2018 23:04

Somebody donated an extra £15 on behalf of 15 people who chose to leave hateful bilge in the comments section.

It's also worth noting how uniformed most women are about transgenderism, the legal changes being pushed through parliament and the potential impact on their rights and protections. Most simply don't know what's happening. The fact that almost 600 women (and a few male allies) were able to raise that much money in little over 24 hours is astonishing, but they only represent the women that are already aware of what's at stake here, and that's only a tiny fraction of the female population. Once this gets wider media attention (and I truly hope that it does) even more women will get involved. Sunlight is always the best disinfectant. Gender politics have only advanced so far because most women outside of post-modern pseudo-intelligencia have not been informed about what's happening. Thanks to Jennifer, I suspect that might be about to change.

To paraphrase Churchill: This isn't the end. It isn't even the beginning of the end. But it is perhaps the end of the beginning.

Forgive my naivete but would mumsnet support a campaign such as this? I think they can see how a very large proportion of their users feel on the matter

SeaWitchly · 14/01/2018 23:14

I think Maria MacLachlan has ftw

Grin

Have donated and am thrilled by the response to this crowdfund.

mercurymaze · 14/01/2018 23:18

donated too

The gofundme appears to be increasing more since reaching £10k, which is wonderful. It is an opportunity for people to express their concerns over the issues of the rights of women and girls and it is great to see so many people contributing what they can afford. Most (including mine) are small donations, but we are giving as much as we can afford and I will be donating more on payday. How dare critics suggest we should instead be funding food banks etc (without themselves appearing to do so). I earn less than the national average wage and donate and do voluntary work for various charities when I can. I support the rights of women, girls, transgender people, men and boys, and believe that gendered stereotypes are to the detriment of everyone. I am very thankful to the women brave enough to call it out for what it is.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 14/01/2018 23:25

Ooo, that's good ftw

guardianfree · 14/01/2018 23:25

I've donated. I agree that things are starting to open up. Who'd have thought that the bloody Times would be in the vanguard (the great Janice Turner leading the way) of all papers! I do hope that as people finally understand the impact of the excessive TG demands, then they will start complaining big time - and looking at the responses to India W on CBB, the great British public were quite happy to call out lies and bullying! #opendebate

BelligerentGardenPixies · 14/01/2018 23:26

I'll be donating at the end of the month and will donate a small amount monthly for the duration it is up.

AbsintheFriends · 14/01/2018 23:38

It would be fantastic if this finally gets the issue properly and fairly discussed in mainstream media. Double win. There must be so many people out there who just aren't aware of how insidious it is.

LangCleg · 14/01/2018 23:42

The sheer effrontery of these people going on about food banks and the like is doing my head in.

The only reason I am late to the horrors of the trans juggernaut is because I've spent the last 7 years of austerity trying to defend people - mostly women - against it. I've been volunteering at a food bank for five years. I've helped keep a children's centre open when it's funding was taken away. I've taught myself about benefits so that I can help women facing problems with them. I've volunteered all over the bloody place for women affected and I've donated to funds and services every single bloody month since the cuts started to bit.

HOW DARE THEY? I bet none of the sanctimonious little have done sweet FA themselves.

I'm beyond furious.

ftw · 14/01/2018 23:53

I’m also really heartened by the number of people donating not-anonymously tbh.

Vicxy · 15/01/2018 00:13

Yup, its a bit of a pisstake. Reminds me very much of the MRAs who try to tell women how to do feminism...'why so much concern for people getting their bums touched when there are girls having their genitals mutilated, others have it so much worse' and such. As if its impossible to be concerned about multiple things simultaneously

Yes, its great seeing so many donating not anon. There seems to be more named donations now than there were when it started, dare I think that people are getting 'braver'(I understand some cannot for their jobs and there are multiple reasons for donating anon..that word just fits best here) and now they see so many others are concerned, they are more willing to actually put their names to it?

Got you Raging, thanks! Yeah I got blocked by Madigan too for saying feminism doesn't intersect with a penis.

Not directly related but the 'what aboutery' reminded me of this fantastic blog I read a few days ago: victimfocus.wordpress.com/2018/01/03/stop-asking-me-what-about-men/

GetDownDog · 15/01/2018 08:04

I'll be donating later today.

I'm concerned that it will still be turned round to bigotry and the women standing up openly will be scapegoated, pushed out of politics and the TRA agenda will have carte blanche.
Tbh this feels a bit like brexit and Trump, too ridiculous to even contemplate happening, which leaves me wondering where all this ridiculousness will go.

TheXXFactor · 15/01/2018 08:05

I really recommend that no one shares their Twitter handle here. Gender critical women are being doxed , reported to their employers and getting death threats. MN is known and hatred as a hotbed of Terfiness Wink -you can be sure TRAs are watching these threads.

Don't make it easy for the TRAs by letting them make connections between your social media profiles. sonic - it's easy to find us on Twitter by looking at who other GC women follow.

ATeardropExplodes · 15/01/2018 08:06

I agree, Raging I'd get that post deleted or amended.

NetflixNN · 15/01/2018 08:16

Someone up thread said they would be making a monthly donation and it made me think. I'm going to stop my Labour party membership and shift my monthly donation to Labour over to this cause. And make sure the party know exactly what I've done and why. They can have my money back when they've sorted this bollocks out.
