I've recently become addicted to a Gofundme campaign. Every time I press refresh the total raised has jumped up and I don't seem to be able to stop.

I'm trying to stay within Mumsnet rules here, so obviously I can't link or promote it.

Does anyone else have this enjoyable problem?

Seema the Momentum rep on the NEC tweeted

"I don't have a view on Trans Women and AWS. However not sure it's useful for a White Male and all the privilege you have to question or condemn an issue some women feel they want to campaign on.

Sort of backs up their argument."

No sorry, sometimes humour is the only way through this.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 14/01/2018 14:32

Thanks for heads up I will be donating

I get that. Otherwise you cry and despair (I actually cried about something to do with all this yesterday to my shame - I just felt so hopeless). I get we have to use humour or despair and I hate that women should have to behave in a more squeaky clean fashion with all the disgusting misogyny out there used by TRAs. It's so frustrating and you just want to snap at them and get angry but then it is used against us and we are horrible TERFS who are mean. I just don't want to play into their hands.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 14/01/2018 14:44

I'm not mean, I do take the piss though. To be fair, it's like shooting fish in a barrel, so perhaps it is mean Grin

Keeps me sane though

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 14/01/2018 14:47

Actually, I rarely debate with trans people, usually righto lefty dudes and sanctimonious lefty women.

chachaboom · 14/01/2018 14:48

Thanks for drawing my attention to this, donated.

I now can’t comment on or even see Lily’s post. Has it been removed or has she just blocked me?

Probably a good job as I writes respected rather than protected Blush

Yes, there's a glaring asymmetry between the two sides. Transactivist always block gender sceptics, but not the reverse. Hence their slogan #notadebate!

Icantreachthepretzels · 14/01/2018 14:52

Sometimes I feel that if your going to get rape and death threats merely for stating biological facts - what more else can they do if you get frustrated and say something that goes over the line into unkind? (and by unkind - it aint gonna be a death threat is it?)
On the other hand they will ignore all the actual facts you state and just point out that one person one time said something cruel (overlooking their own death threats) and therefore every single person supporting the cause is terrible and the cause is worthless.
And because they are male with male voices and privilege - it is their version of events that gets heard and believed.

So I get torn between the viewpoint of 'what's the fucking point of being squeaky clean?' And 'we have to keep doing this the right way otherwise it will be held against us.'

At the need of the day, it probably doesn't matter which route we take. Either biology and common sense will win out in the end, or womanhood is fucked forever. Whether we ever made unkind or crude jokes during the fight isn't going to make a huge difference. Biology is reality no matter who says what - all we can do is wait to see if it is common sense or madness that prevails.

Well - wait and donate to the gofundme campaign.

Something I'm struck by is that there's no big donations. When I look at other go fund mes, the target is tremendously helped by one or two big donations of 500 or 1000.

This is women donating a tenner or 20 quid, with the occasional 50. This must be indicative of the strength of feeling I think.

Daffodil397 · 14/01/2018 15:12

I have donated.

HattiesBackpack · 14/01/2018 15:22

I’ve donated, and shared on Facebook, I’m sick of women’s rights being thrown under the bus to appease men, and I’ve been quiet about this for far too long.

BeyondWW · 14/01/2018 15:41

£8750 and "this campaign is trending"

Can't afford to donate atm, but have shared it on Twitter

BeyondWW · 14/01/2018 15:42

The last time I watched a gofundme like this was the heartwarming donations for the victim of The Rapist Ched Evans

Lockheart · 14/01/2018 15:44

I've donated. It's not much, but I hope it helps.

SophoclesTheFox · 14/01/2018 16:35

We ask that they be expelled from our inclusive party
Grin Grin Grin

I know, right, anlaf? Our party cares! It is inclusive! it is welcoming to all! We should all be embraced with open arms! Except women with unacceptable opinions on women, obviously. They ought to fuck off and be ashamed of themselves in a corner somewhere for being so mean and hateful.

Do they hear themselves?

WillowWept · 14/01/2018 16:50

Please please those of you who can, donate. Even if it's just a couple of quid. It can make such a difference

WillowWept · 14/01/2018 16:50

Everything helps Smile

Redonionricedpotato · 14/01/2018 16:54

I absolutely despair of the women calling for these brave women to be expelled. I have nothing but contempt for these pathetic handmaidens.

How desperate must you be for approval that you'll take a stance against your own sex, a stance that will ultimately hurt you? And how thick? It's soooo depressing to see these idiot women acting all outraged about the nasty transphobic women, why can't they see that they are literally like turkeys voting for Christmas?

PricklyBall · 14/01/2018 16:58

Lockheart - as someone said upthread, it's fascinating to watch the total grow precisely because it's lots of small amounts from ordinary women without much to spare, but who care deeply enough to try to do something. It really is genuine collective action at its best - as individuals we can't do anything on our own, but a large number of us collectively doing the best we can is achieving something amazing!

catgirl1976 · 14/01/2018 17:13

Gone past 9,000 now

I will be donating more come pay day

BeeInMyBonnet1985 · 14/01/2018 17:27

Anybody got any ideas on how to raise awareness about this campaign IRL? I feel like the gender critical community on both mumsnet and Twitter are doing everything that we can online, but there's a wider audience out there of women who might not be politically active persay, but who nevertheless do have a horse in the race, and could be galvanised into action. I was thinking about printing out Jennifer's statement and the gofundme link and discreetly taping them up in ladies toilets, changing rooms etc. It's only a small scale action though and I think we need to think bigger. Anyone got any ideas?
