There is a section called www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts

We could continue to discuss Transformation Street.

It's been great talking to everyone. Just to be clear I don't want any cookies. I'm just trying to make sense of this all. It does affect wider family and friends (children) so I am trying to learn from all sides.

I'm going swimming, speak later.

Flowers to everyone.

harv you have not made anything worse but it’s not about ‘respecting all women except Rose West’ it’s about listening to what they are saying and meeting us in a conversation as equals and not people who need educating.
What you have to understand is that this is an almost daily occurrence of a trans woman coming on the board because they believe our fears come from a place of ignorance and if we could just meet a lovely normal trans woman then we’d see they aren’t a threat. Thus entirely misunderstands us as an audience.
The vast majority of the women on these boards are people who have lived very full and colourful lives, been at the forefront in every social battle and if are not LGB themselves have spent their lives within the community. We have fought alongside trans women and would continue to do so, but for their rights as the category trans women, not as women. We can see that when we start eroding the definition what is a biological woman away our hard fought rights vanish in a poof of smoke. How can we take an employer to court for sexual discrimination if men can get pregnant too? Never mind that the vast vast majority of men can’t and it is still women being shafted, but without the language to name our biological oppression how can we fight it??

Please stay on the boards, we need more trans allies, we’re happy to converse with you. We don’t hate you, it’s not about you. It’s never been about trans people it’s about women.

LangCleg · 20/01/2018 16:38

And I don't think it is at all fair to get 48 to identify where she is from. She may not even be in the UK!

That's disingenuous. I think you know perfectly well that I was highlighting the high likelihood that 48 had encountered some pushback on the thread and was resorting to gaslighting/fibbing for sympathy. I think you know that I was not trying to find out where 48 lives. Because all of us - you, me, 48 and everyone else on the thread - already knew that no transwoman had been murdered in the neighbouring streets to 48 in the last year.

YY to this.

Most people find it icky and uncomfortable to be forced to participate in someone else's fetish, but that's another thing that you're not supposed to actually say because it makes you a mean girl. Basic pattern recognition skills are cruel and evil when they hurt men's feelings.
"Basic pattern recognition skills are cruel and evil when they hurt men's feelings" is absolutely an unwritten rule of misogyny!

Is the men pause that rare moment when a man stops speaking mid-rant, and you think he's finally going to let someone else talk, but it turns out that he was just catching his breath?

Or going to get a cup of tea, if the conversation is happening online.

SophoclesTheFox · 20/01/2018 18:26

I absolutely agree with seeking connection and common points of reference, italian. That is my style in real life, absolutely. It's a rare person that I can't connect with on some level.

But it has to go both ways. I have to feel that the person on the other side of the conversation is engaging with me.

And harv isn't. They still aren't. I could go into why, but it's going to look like even more of a pile on, so I'll stop there.

thebewilderness · 20/01/2018 18:40

@thebewilderness where did you get the rules of misogyny from, very interesting.
I observed and documented them with a good bit of assistance from friends and feminists.
harv If you want to be treated courteously you really need to stop telling porky pies in the Feminist Chat. It is too late in my opinion to redeem yourself considering the enormity of your mendacity coupled with your passive aggressive manipulative behavior.

thebewilderness · 20/01/2018 18:59

I have never understood why people try to describe their experiences by comparing them to experiences they have never had. If you have never had the experience how can you possibly think you know how it compares? Bit off topic, apologies.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 20/01/2018 19:45

Childbirth and a kidney stone come to mind

Which is ironic as dh gets a punch to the kidneys everytime he mentions it

(Joking....i dont even know where his kidneys are)

Sophia1984 · 20/01/2018 19:50

So according to this Dr, I have a man’s nose! Definitely doesn’t tip up at the end.

thebewilderness · 20/01/2018 20:01

I have my dad's nose! Does that mean I am a d00d?

thebewilderness · 20/01/2018 20:11

Italiangreyhound @48harv the fact you have stayed to listen is good.

They didn't stay to listen. They stayed to mansplain, criticize, and tell more porky pies.

toldmywrath · 20/01/2018 20:15

I've never been on the feminists boards before ( as far as I recall) This appeared on active conversations and as I have watched Transformation Street I started to read/lurk.
I admire the perspicacity of the remarks on here. I'm not so eloquent myself, but I was taken aback by harv's inaccuracies when describing their menopause, hrt etc.

toldmywrath · 20/01/2018 20:18

I, too have a man's nose. I am female. My Dad had gorgeous thick and luscious hair that needed cutting every six weeks right up until he died age 85. Luckily, I've inherited the hair as well as his nose. and a hairy nose come to that

nauticant · 20/01/2018 21:15

There's been discussion about how a transwoman appearing on a MN thread can often play out in a similar way. I've noticed the same patterns.

The thing that strikes me particularly is the switches between a submissive position ("us girls", please like me, etc) and a dominant position (as women you're supposed to behave in a certain way). It does grate.

The one bit of advice I'd give to transwomen posting on MN is to treat other posters as equals. To this end, assume the audience are just people, could be men, could be women, and address them accordingly.

thebewilderness · 20/01/2018 21:32

Just to clear up any possible confusion, I do not have my fathers nose secured about my person. I simply have the simulacrum of my fathers nose securely attached my face in the normal position and attitude.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 20/01/2018 21:36

Well colour me relieved theberwilderness

SophoclesTheFox · 20/01/2018 21:42

I was wondering about that, bewilderness Grin

QuentinSummers · 20/01/2018 21:53

I saw this vid on Facebook today @harvey48 , it might give you some inkling of what women go through because of our hormones and why what you describe is a bit irritating to us. Many of us struggle our whole lives with hormones and it isn't through choice.

sophocles your post this morning was awesome.

CoolCarrie · 20/01/2018 21:58

This series is a big advertisement for this “ surgery “ and this “surgeon”.
He is as daft and deluded as a lot of his clients are.

thebewilderness · 20/01/2018 22:34

I think there is an element of propaganda in most media entertainment but these carefully scripted "reality" shows seem to be the worst offenders.

AngryAttackKittens · 21/01/2018 00:48

My dad also had luscious long tresses as a young man. I'd always thought that was because he was a metalhead at the time, but apparently he was a woman all along?
