Lily Madigan, TIM, elected Labour women's officer

jMillicentFawcett · 20/11/2017 05:17

Lily is 19. Lily was instrumental in the hate campaign against Anne Ruzylo which resulted in her standing down.

You have to be a woman to be women’s officer but ‘The Labour councillor said that “lived experience as a woman” should be considered an advantage — but not a prerequisite — for the role of women’s officer.’

Lily could also have gone for the LGBT officer role but they didn’t want that. No, they wanted to show women that they can shit all over them and we will applaud them for doing it.

I’m absolutely furious about this ( as you can probably tell)

Yep @Datun. I’d seen his posts on that message board but they were tame compared to his tweets.

What I find so bloody hypocritical is that if he’d posted anything that was even vaguely homophobic or racist, the LP would have kicked him out. Aggressive misogyny is just fine though Hmm

bluewoollyhat · 28/11/2017 07:04

So this Adrie guy is also a member of LP? Surely they have got to expel him for that??

hackmum · 28/11/2017 09:03

So what's Owen Jones said about Adrie? I'm sure he's rushed to condemn him, right?

ArcheryAnnie · 28/11/2017 09:30

Just looked up the JoCox programme. This is the excuse they can use to reject Lilliam: As this is an advanced programme of high-quality training, candidates should already have some level of involvement with the Labour Party.

This is the contact email from the form
[email protected] shall we all drop them a line?

Excellent plan. Think any emails should be kept very brief, very polite, and include a note on how many women on the left are feeling completely alienated from the Labour Party by this, and don't want to be. I think there must be women in the decision-making process vaguely sympathetic to us, just need to help give them the tools to make the right decision.

Thermostatpolice · 28/11/2017 11:39

Adrie! Bloody hell. Thank goodness someone had the presence of mind to take screenshots.

hackmum · 28/11/2017 11:43

Millicent: "What I find so bloody hypocritical is that if he’d posted anything that was even vaguely homophobic or racist, the LP would have kicked him out. Aggressive misogyny is just fine though."

Yeah, but he's probably vulnerable.

OlennasWimple · 28/11/2017 12:11

Pamish - unfortunately, LM does have "some level of involvement" with Labour, what with being an elected post holder and all.....

(It's not a very high bar that they have set there, is it? Not "long standing involvement" or evne "active involvement")

Adrie is also heavily involved in Momentum, whose sticky fingers seem to be all over the worst of the misogynistic stuff going on in the LP right now. As Guido Fawkes observed last Jan, they can't even manage to get one women onto their ballot papers

In a nutshell twitter.com/RichardBentall/status/935401873271676933

Am hoping Brian Cox does start a new clarity of thought party

Excellent comment from Two Flames‏ / @msjenniferjames om Twitter today. This is it in a nutshell, isn't it, in language the intersectionalists might be able to understand!

EVERYONE on the Left is a trans rights activist. We all want trans people to live happy, dignified, safe lives.
We have a problem with EXTREMIST trans activism as it intersects with men's rights activism.

She then links to a twitter thread on Adrie Van Der Meer saying "This is an ugly thread but it's important to know who we're dealing with."

Ekphrasis · 28/11/2017 14:01

That is good raisins. Thank you.

pisacake · 28/11/2017 14:43

Yes Brian Cox was targeted by TRAs for his wife opposing no-platforming Mary Beard for not drinking the trans kool aid. uncommondescent.com/academic-freedom/physicist-brian-cox-targeted-over-free-speech/

NettleTea · 28/11/2017 17:56

Yes, Adrie is the one who fed all the info about Anne Ruzylo to Lily M

Adrie is the reason we couldnt do our jobs as an executive committee. If you look at Two Flames thread you will see that Anne, I and our ex chair (Christine) have all commented - she has also added in a couple of screenshots of her own. I may add a few more later.

I wrote to regional last night, maybe NOW they will do something about Adrie

This is what I wrote

Good morning Billy

I was the Vice Chair of Bexhill and Battle CLP

We resigned because of Adrie. We couldnt function as a committeee because of his continual behaviour and his aggressive and misogynistic attitude towards our team.

We hoped that it might make you take some steps towards dealing with the situation. However it seems not, and actually it seems that regional are supporting Mr Van der Meer as an officer was sent down to attend the Battle Branch meeting because, Im guessing, Adrie felt that he may have to face some consequences of his actions, many of which you know, many more you do not yet.

The letter you sent back was spectacularly dismissive and to be honest it has taken me this long to feel able to respond, a little like Uma Thurman, I had to wait until I was a little less angry. Christine started as the target of hatefullness, Anne next and I certainly got my fair share at the end and will be putting in a formal complaint about the way he abused his roles on social media to shut down democratic debate and put motions to the committee designed to have us expelled from the party, using inflammatory phrases to prejudice the members against us in the style of a kangaroo court.

I understand that he has autism - in fact as a neurodiverse person myself, and having 2 children on the autistic spectrum, I understand the condition well - in fact as his diagnosis was only recent, I believe I understand PDA (which is his particular 'colour' of autism) very well - my daughter has it. Of course it is commonly accepted that PDA and personality disorders are very closely linked, especially if they are not addressed in childhood. If I were you I would have a really good read up on PDA (pathological Demand Avoidance) and personality disorders.

I would advise you to take care. His slanderous attempts to destroy local councellors or people who hold positions higher than him, as well as his assertions that YOU told him he would have been the candidate had Christine not stood, makes me think that it is likely that he will contrive to take over as chair, and put people he feels he can control into the other roles. He runs lots of secret groups online - I know, I was in one of them until I fell out of favour for refusing to do as I was told - he booted me off and told everyone I had been suspended from the party.

You may dismiss what I say as that of a bitter ex committee member, however I cannot ignore what has been brought to my attention today. I am aware that this has been reported too, from other CLPs

We warned you

Thank you for your time

So far they havent written back, nor even acknowledged my email

Elendon · 28/11/2017 18:01

I hope that your letter is taken up by the mainstream media NettleTea

I'm listening and my response would be to boot him out ASAP.

But I'm a woman and really have no power. (I've been there regarding a misogynist and tried that but to no avail, because he gets elected).

NettleTea · 28/11/2017 18:04

well the Chair in Battle has written to him again to reconsider standing down as secretary. I dont think he will go to be honest. He will just say we are bullying him out

Elendon · 28/11/2017 18:33

Honestly, you really do have to wonder, given my experience within the party with misogynists, as to what is actually alleged when they do deign to suspend.

OlennasWimple · 28/11/2017 19:30

Nettle - have you thought about contacting one of the Times journalists, like Lucy Bannerman or Andrew Gilligan? They might be interested in exploring the "back story" to LM's rise in the Labour Party

NettleTea · 28/11/2017 19:37

Yes Ive spoken to Lucy - have been talking with her on and off since the story first broke
Also Morning Star

CAAKE · 28/11/2017 20:14

This twitter thread is interesting (but not at all surprising). It's basically become a list of women that Lily has blocked on Twitter.

twitter.com/streetvoiceuk/status/935420369950986240

SelmaAndJubjub · 28/11/2017 20:21

As Guido Fawkes observed last Jan, they can't even manage to get one women onto their ballot paper

And when Guido Fawkes is calling you out for misogyny, you have definitely hit a new low.

OlennasWimple · 28/11/2017 20:37

"Open letter of support" for LM [[https://docs.google.com/document/d/12PEw-Wm7MFS1gsjTJcXnvs08dsTVVAp6RtDaCJcjJPQ/edit here]. Apparently LM has been subjected to "violent transphobic abuse"

Which is awful. I hope that this violence has been reported to the police so that they can take immediate steps to ensure that she is kept safe.

Unless, of course, it means that some people have said some home truths not nice things about LM and we are supposed to be as appalled at this as at the actual death threats that prominent feminists receive when they say anything vaguely critical, or the actual, real life violence that women endure every day. Hmm

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 28/11/2017 21:19

Yes, apparently calling a male person he is extreme violence. yet actual violence such as attacking a 60 year old woman is not violence..'misgendering' is much worse Hmm

I hope if Lily has actually suffered transphobic attacks and such, whoever did it will be brought to justice. But somehow I doubt there has been anything proper (and indeed hope there has not been too)

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 28/11/2017 21:23

CAAKE

Just checked and apparently 'You are blocked from following @madiganlily and viewing @madiganlily's Tweets. Learn more'

My crime? It seems the actual tweet was deleted so I cannot find the exact thing I said but it was along the lines of (in reply to a post Lily made about it being important to keep woman only events when on about the reclaim the night march Hmm)

With respect, its not a woman only event if there are males there. Fair enough be trans-inclusive, but no need to lie and say its woman only when it is clearly not.

NettleTea · 28/11/2017 23:27

The Chair from Battle received a reply. No way is Adrie stepping down and if we dont stop harrassing him and sharing his tweets, we will be hearing from a solicitor.
sharing stuff is now a police matter........
