Lily Madigan, TIM, elected Labour women's officer

Lily is 19. Lily was instrumental in the hate campaign against Anne Ruzylo which resulted in her standing down.

You have to be a woman to be women’s officer but ‘The Labour councillor said that “lived experience as a woman” should be considered an advantage — but not a prerequisite — for the role of women’s officer.’

Lily could also have gone for the LGBT officer role but they didn’t want that. No, they wanted to show women that they can shit all over them and we will applaud them for doing it.

I’m absolutely furious about this ( as you can probably tell)

Obviously Roz doesn't give a shit about how women are represented and what happens to them.

Their only concern is the promotion of trans.

No doubt when it all fails, Madigan's twitter feed has reclaim the night on the background and the tagline that it was so important we have women only events, it will be down to hate - always someone else's fault other than your own.

'Feeling liberated after women reclaim the night march - so important we have women-only events'

Says Madigan without a hint of irony

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 27/11/2017 12:44

Interesting that when asked if Lily supports women-only spaces, Lily replies they support “gender-specific” spaces.

No area is segregated by gender. None. As gender is something noone can even prove and in many people, gender identity does not even exist (I don't have a gender identity at all, for example, am I not a person?).

Its ridiculous muddying the waters and needs to be stopped.

MacaroonMama · 27/11/2017 12:45

@Superlandlady I just sent my first tweet! To Lucy Bannerman! Feeling powerful! Not really - feeling amazed at the hate radiating from the TRAtype tweets actually. But hopeful that there is a fair amount of peak transing going on.

MacaroonMama · 27/11/2017 12:47

Elendon I cannot believe Lily wrote that! Women-only events?! WTAF? You couldn't make this up. Is someone turned this into a novel, it would be up there with The Handmaid's Tale and 1984 - but it is REAL and I don't get how people don't see the absolute madness.

Elendon · 27/11/2017 12:57

Click on the photos of reclaim the night. It is REAL.

And incredibly disturbing. Macaroonmama

Owen Jones is an out and out misogynist.

Ekphrasis · 27/11/2017 13:31

Imo Lily should have worked their way doggedly into politics and then created their own leadership programme for trans political leaders. Make your own table (in the words of Megan Markel).

I can’t believe young people are saying “lily is female”. (On Lily’s twitter).

Lancelottie · 27/11/2017 13:36

You missed off the 'Is it that hard to get into your thick middle aged skull you uneducated pricks', which probably sums up why teenagers are not the best and most understanding representatives of a wide range of ages.

To be fair, that wasn't Lily but a delightful chum who has a vocabulary of mostly one word.

Ekphrasis · 27/11/2017 13:39

Yes I did. My mind was boggling at the appropriated, imaginary biology.

Ekphrasis · 27/11/2017 13:43

I’m starting to think the biggest issue is that people do not understand the difference between the word gender and sex. I did see a trans woman on twitter saying that transexuals are being eroded by all this too.

If I’m honest, it was only when I read about this on mn that things fell into place with me regarding all sort of things.

Gender and sex have become interchangeable words everywhere. “Gender reveal parties” etc.

I shall enjoy correcting anyone who says “do you know the gender of your baby yet”. Though they usual say “do you know what it is yet” (from now on answer to be, definitely baby, not a puppy).

Ekphrasis · 27/11/2017 13:44

Bit the biggest issue, but a big semantic issue.

Ekphrasis · 27/11/2017 13:44

*not. Ffs

ArcheryAnnie · 27/11/2017 13:53

Roz is now saying "Lucy is the one with power". How? Either Lily is an adult in an adult, responsible role in a mainstream political party, with their local party behind them, or they are not. Either Lily is able to do her responsible job in a mainstream political party, which includes dealing with press, or they are not. Which is it?

Lily also is the one with the law firm willing to do pro-bono work for them. Lily is also the one with the activists firmly behind her who are happy with making rape threats, death threats, physical attacks, doxxing and trying to get people sacked. Lily is the one cosy with the party leader, and with the shadowy cult campaign group Momentum behind them. Lily is hardly without power or resources.

Paris Lees is saying that lily is being bullied far and wide (including the times) and mentions the suicide of a trans teen.

I don’t feel comfortable, personally, ‘attacking’ lily, and I don’t think that is happening, but I question who is perhaps guiding choices, PR etc. If you put yourself in the media and especially if you talk about things that are sensitive to others, you invite criticism. All politicians have to survive criticism. I’m not sure what I’m saying here... I guess expect next weeks Paris lees article to be about this.

OlennasWimple · 27/11/2017 14:17

Lily is the one who fought and won the right to go into spaces where fellow classmates get changed and use the toilet facilities where previously men and boys had been excluded.

And not just "trying to get people sacked" - Lily demanded the removal of an experienced union official from a party political position - and lo and behold, it came to pass...

Ekphrasis · 27/11/2017 14:17

I guess archery answers my post.

OlennasWimple · 27/11/2017 14:19

Paris can fuck off with the repeated publications in breach of the Samaritans' media guidelines on reporting suicide. Honestly, all MSM should stop using Paris until they get into their head that Paris is becoming part of the problem

Ekphrasis · 27/11/2017 14:20

That’s interesting, thanks Olenneas.

Ekphrasis · 27/11/2017 14:41

I replied to a comment that really rather riled me. I’m now hiding.

I think it’s worth noting that I do feel very scared engaging in debate.

nauticant · 27/11/2017 14:54

There's much competition on the thread, but I think this post by Superlandlady is excellent:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3091663-lily-madigan-tim-elected-labour-women-s-officer?msgid=73635517

We're looking at a car crash here and because there could be all kinds of fall-out I'm being careful in what I'm saying. I'm taking care over facts and making sure my tone is moderate while still being critical. We certainly should be allowed our say but in my view this situation requires more care than normal.

Ekphrasis · 27/11/2017 14:56

I do agree naut. How many people are behind lily? Using lily to their own ends?

Ekphrasis · 27/11/2017 14:57

(Again, archery answers that question.)

Totally agree with your post. Horrifying that any semblance of substantive meaning in the word "woman" is being wiped out, which will eradicate all gains made by the feminist movement since its inception. Not having a word to delineate us by sex means all our rights (that are not general all purpose human rights) are literally erased. Accommodation of gender-based self-identified TIM folk into womanhood = ejection of those who are materially women by dint of their sex. TIMs will become centre stage in the women's movement, statistics, scholarships, affirmative action programs etc as they do not face the same barriers to political and social participation.

treaclesoda · 27/11/2017 14:58

Gender and sex have become interchangeable words everywhere. “Gender reveal parties” etc.

I think part of this is down to people being very prissy about uttering the word sex, in any context. It's almost as if they can't say 'what sex is the baby?' in case an impressionable teenager overhears the word sex and rushes off to try it out, or elderly Auntie Gladys is overcome with a fit of the vapours on hearing the word.
