Lily is 19. Lily was instrumental in the hate campaign against Anne Ruzylo which resulted in her standing down.

You have to be a woman to be women’s officer but ‘The Labour councillor said that “lived experience as a woman” should be considered an advantage — but not a prerequisite — for the role of women’s officer.’

Lily could also have gone for the LGBT officer role but they didn’t want that. No, they wanted to show women that they can shit all over them and we will applaud them for doing it.

I’m absolutely furious about this ( as you can probably tell)

Not only is this whole fiasco insulting, dangerous and damaging to woman. There is also a child who has clearly been groomed on the net and not adequately safeguarded by the surrounding adults. Why on Earth the prevent duty of schools is not extended to cover these situations is beyond me. Anybody who has been in anyway involved in allowing this farce to arise should be deeply, deeply ashamed of themselves.

Times article this morning. Rosie Kitchen interviews LM.
"How, at 19, can she (sic) have enough experience to represent the interests of women in the constituency?"

" I'm good at trans rights and student rights"
"I did a lot of work around stopping the council here shutting Sure Start Centres"
"I've been speaking to victims of rape recently"
[hmmm]

I'll be raising this with relevant organisations I am still connected with.

Sorry journo is Rosie Kinchen*... clearly my mind is working on a surreal level today...still in shock..

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/11/2017 11:00

Does anyone have a share token link for that article?

MaryMaryQuiteLovely · 26/11/2017 11:00

It's seriously irresponsible to be saying he is 'potentially vulnerable'. That sound like feeding an idea to me. Are trans all vulnerable? Do we have to do everything they ask because they might kill themselves?

treaclesoda · 26/11/2017 11:04

I think that's pretty much how they see it. If you question anything they say, they scream 'you're driving people to suicide'. So because women are meant to be nice, we're meant to let them walk all over us.

It's like every abusive relationship thread on the relationships board.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/11/2017 11:05

Do we have to do everything they ask because they might kill themselves?

It's really quite blatant blackmail isn't it. If you question anything then you may be personally responsible for someone killing themselves.

LangCleg · 26/11/2017 11:10

If he is potentially vulnerable, why are his friends and peers encouraging him into politics - which, rightly, has the highest degree of public scrutiny of any profession? Why have they not pre-vetted him so that his past MRA positions weren't on the web for all to see?

iseenodust · 26/11/2017 11:16

Tris Osborne @cllrtrisosborne
Very pleased to support the @RSLabour Women’s Officer on her application. Our membership voted at our AGM and our Party recognises trans women.

Do you like this meme about the 'vulnerable' one?

Lily Madigan, TIM, elected Labour women's officer
RedToothBrush · 26/11/2017 11:19

Schrödinger's trans woman

Vulnerable when questioned but completely capable and strong when standing up for the cause
Trans when attacked but a typical normal woman when representing others
A teenager when under scrutiny but an experienced campaigner when being promoted.

It's more doublespeak.

Datun · 26/11/2017 11:22

Exactly the same as women when they want in women’s spaces and to represent feminism.

Unequivocally trans when they are being challenged, for any reason.

SophoclesTheFox · 26/11/2017 11:31

Absolutely agree re the guilt trips and blackmail.

Where are all these white knights when women are getting death threats and rape threats for having opinions, eh? Did you ever see a man go to bat for Germaine Greer, or Mary Beard, or Caroline Criado-Perez, or Clementine Ford or Yvette Cooper or Anita Sarkeesian or Laura Bates and demand that people stop sending them horrific online abuse because they might kill themselves? No, you didn't see it, because it didn't happen. And if it did, you can bet your life the trolls would double down and keep right on doing it, and be glad about the effect that they were having.

It's a tactic of abusers. And it's a also tactic of men who actually very much enjoy their role as a soi-disant victim of tyrannical female oppression, for a variety of fairly icky reasons.

hackmum · 26/11/2017 11:45

"Did you ever see a man go to bat for Germaine Greer, or Mary Beard, or Caroline Criado-Perez, or Clementine Ford or Yvette Cooper or Anita Sarkeesian or Laura Bates and demand that people stop sending them horrific online abuse because they might kill themselves?"

Indeed not. On the contrary, those women are routinely told to be a bit more robust and stop whingeing.

As for Liam/Lily - vulnerable my arse, as Jim Royle would say.

WTAFisthisshit · 26/11/2017 11:53

TRA's are clearly playing the vulnerable card now however at one point (not that long ago) Liam was a vulnerable child who was clearly groomed online by M/TRA's. Now that Lily is an adult, they need to make a decision about which Road they are going to go down. A) acknowledge their own abuse and campaign to stop it happening to the next vulnerable child or B) become an abuser themselves and groom and exploit the next generation of vulnerable children. Once B is chosen the vulnerable card cannot be played.

TiredOfThisAll · 26/11/2017 12:00

Does this work?

I have not read the article yet - too busy doing woman things like cleaning my house and looking after DC (who are thwarting efforts at cleaning!)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/11/2017 12:07

I definitely think everyone’s opinion is valid,” she says, “but some opinions are a bit ignorant and we can educate them.”

Everyone is equal but some or more equal than others...

WTAFisthisshit · 26/11/2017 12:07

Interesting that Lily's mother is a childminder. Presumably she has the safeguarding training to recognise grooming in her own child and that's why she wasn't 'supportive'.

SophoclesTheFox · 26/11/2017 12:08

Indeed not. On the contrary, those women are routinely told to be a bit more robust and stop whingeing.

Or they're told to leave the internet altogether!

Men don't guilt trip other men for being shitty to women. Because that's not how this stuff works. Women are supposed to put men first, be they trans identifying males or otherwise. We're all - men and women - conditioned to think that this is the way the world is.

Like datun and red say above - they're women when it suits them to be women, which is when they claim to speak for all women. And they're trans women (ie males), when it suits them to be so in order to tug at women's heartstrings and get us to do what they want. It's transparent. And we need to kick back against it.

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/11/2017 12:10

So am I reading right?

There's a very "aw poor lily" tone. And the insinuation Anne was a bulky for basically telling the truth that she is not and won't ever be a woman.

And of course he doesn't care about unisex toilets and non gendered language at school because theres no validation in being treated the same as every one .

I'm not as smart as most of you lot and certainly my analysis skills aren't as hot.

So stand to be corrected

FlaviaAlbia · 26/11/2017 12:13

I wondered that too WTAFisthisshit. It must be awful for the family.

I do wonder though, is Lily living at home while slating the family or do they have a job that actually pays well enough for them to support themselves with food and housing?

WTAFisthisshit · 26/11/2017 12:18

Flavia I was Under the impression that Lily is at uni so I presume in halls being financed by loans/bursaries/parents. I wonder what Lily is doing for Christmas?

My heart goes out to Lily's parents and even more so to the younger siblings.

Traffig · 26/11/2017 12:21

@ Tired... thanks for doing proper link

"But like so many millennials, she would rather shut down debate than win it. Should feminists such as Germaine Greer be allowed to express views that many in the trans community find offensive? “I find it difficult to know whether we should give them a view. Everyone’s views are valid but when some views are inciting hatred against a group, sometimes there is a duty not to give them a platform,” she says."

I wonder who has done the most for women rights? Germaine Greer or LM visiting a few.. totally unaware of the back story because they have more shit on their plate than LM will ever know... "victims of rape" to make the c.v look good? imo etc.

Noting the use of victim terminology rather than "survivor".

Not welcome in our local safe place LM.

SophoclesTheFox · 26/11/2017 12:24

That's right, giles. In a stunning bait and switch, the bullies (Lily and their pals) hounded Anne out of her position, and are now taking the position that Anne is at fault and Lily is a hapless innocent who must be protected. You couldn't make it up.

My natural instinct is actually to feel sorry for Lily. But honestly, it's thinking like that that gets us into trouble. Lily is banking on people feeling sorry for Lily, because they have worked out that is the way to get people (women mostly) to do what they want.
