Lily Madigan, TIM, elected Labour women's officer

Lily is 19. Lily was instrumental in the hate campaign against Anne Ruzylo which resulted in her standing down.

You have to be a woman to be women’s officer but ‘The Labour councillor said that “lived experience as a woman” should be considered an advantage — but not a prerequisite — for the role of women’s officer.’

Lily could also have gone for the LGBT officer role but they didn’t want that. No, they wanted to show women that they can shit all over them and we will applaud them for doing it.

I’m absolutely furious about this ( as you can probably tell)

pisacake: "Has he?"

Yes - see the screenshot that Millicent posted at 11.55.

How can the Labour party do this? Not only elect a man to be woman's officer, but a man who makes jokes about rape?

pisacake · 24/11/2017 13:26

Oh sorry yes I didn't click that.

"The only tweets were from my brother and his friend who were at a very immature age and unfortunately decided to tease me."

"My family and me don’t get on for a number of reasons including a general transphobic/homophobic/racist attitude held by some members and this account was just a manifestation of that."

Obviously it's Lily that's in the right and his entire family that are in the wrong. #translogic

Throwing your family under the bus to preserve your voluntary position in a local political party. #justtransthings

QueenOfTheFlatPack · 24/11/2017 13:26

That KentLive article has the same glaring mistake as a number of other publications - one which has rather annoyed Anne R - they state that Lily has “taken over the seat from her predecessor Anne”, when in fact they In completely different constituencies (in different counties!) The whole saga looks so orchestrated. Is Lily just a tame puppet or is she the driving force with a scary agenda??

MillicentFawcett · 24/11/2017 13:42

When Lily hired a lawyer to make his school apologise, he said he’d done it because the school and his family weren’t supportive. It’s a direct quote in the Huff Post article.

So I suspect his family aren’t desperately enamoured with him.

I think he’s been groomed. If you look at any of his YouTube videos, he talks about watching a lot of you tubers and how helpful they have been in his transition. Lily is a kid who failed the 11+ and yet somehow, while still at school, managed to find and persuade a lawyer to act for him on a pro bono basis.

ArcheryAnnie · 24/11/2017 13:46

Where would Lily have got the money to hire a lawyer if his family weren't supporting him?

MillicentFawcett · 24/11/2017 13:58

The lawyer did it for nothing

pisacake · 24/11/2017 14:02

Yeah apparently it was #proboner work.

MillicentFawcett · 24/11/2017 14:04

I say that - I’m sure I read it somewhere.

Here’s the relevant bit from HuffPost: “I hired a solicitor because my family and school weren’t very supportive,” Lily explained. “I felt isolated and very alone.”

The solicitor sent a letter to St Simon Stock Catholic School outlining Lily’s rights and warning of further legal action if they did not comply.

Bloody scary too how a case was actually won. How when in any other circumstances people would he arrested for being in the wrong locker room or given severe disciplinaries for major safe guarding issues .

I would of course say he should wear the skirt at school if he wants.

But the changing rooms, on the say so of a teenage boy....not even one who's had surgery

Disgusting that that case could be won and that it's seen as a victory that it was when all those girls then had no rights...

pisacake · 24/11/2017 14:07

Lily was represented by Leigh Day on a pro boner basis.

pro boner

MillicentFawcett · 24/11/2017 14:14

Thank you pisacake - knew I’d seen it somewhere! He just happened upon Leigh Day through googling? Yeah, and I’m Kate Middleton.

Ireland has a population of 4.75 million people.

To put this into perspective: Northern Ireland 1.811 million, Scotland 5.404 million and Wales 3.063 million.

England has a population of 66,573,504 of which 54,072,374 live in urban areas.

Battleax · 24/11/2017 14:49

England has a population of 66,573,504

Isn't that whole of UK?

Battleax · 24/11/2017 14:50

(England's pop. is approx 53 million)

Elendon · 24/11/2017 14:51

All the above was according to google but when you search for the population of the UK and Northern Ireland you get:

65,640,000 million.

I'm not sure the figures add up.

Battleax · 24/11/2017 14:54

This looks broadly right;

This is an interesting blog regarding gender recognition throughout Europe (mainly the EU).

Elendon · 24/11/2017 15:09

Thanks Battleax.

I'm not too sure about Wiki either though. It's obvious that a few million has been displaced here and there when searching for the figures, roughly the population of Northern Ireland!

Battleax · 24/11/2017 15:18

Yes, everything differs by a few hundred thousand. But ONS won't oblige with a handy page of headline figures.

RedToothBrush · 24/11/2017 17:07

Oh gosh. What did I say.

I'm so staggeringly unsurprised about Lily's brother.

MissMoneyPlant · 24/11/2017 17:12

There's something I don't understand about the suicide threats thing (sorry, going back a couple of pages, just caught up on thread today).

People who are suicidal for understandable (for want of a better word) reasons often still get treated like attention-seeking timewasters. In particular I know plenty of women who are viewed as a sort of emotional, demanding, manipulative caricature (BPD), where even expressing suicidal feelings can be interpreted as manipulative threats.

So does this mean that across the country, psych staff have been spontaneously peak-transed simply by immediately reading trans suicide threats as "manipulative"? Or are trans people somehow exepmt from the usual judgement, to the point where even hardened psych staff* who would cry "manipulation" at the drop of a hat can't even see it?

(*NAPSALT!)

SweetGrapes · 24/11/2017 17:12

Re the changing room thing at Lily's school... couldn't the girls claim the school failed in it's duty of care towards the girls by letting a penis owner use the same changing rooms?

SweetGrapes · 24/11/2017 17:14

Redtooth brush- nice to see you here... I am a long time lurker on your other threads.

SophoclesTheFox · 24/11/2017 18:21

I wonder if the increasing visibility of trans issues over the last few years has had an impact on how men are experiencing autogynephilia? It used to be something very shameful, that I expect men hid as much as they could for most of their lives. Now it's something that you can "come out" with. It must change the expression of the paraphilia surely? So younger and younger men would be expressing it?
