Lily Madigan, TIM, elected Labour women's officer

Lily is 19. Lily was instrumental in the hate campaign against Anne Ruzylo which resulted in her standing down.

You have to be a woman to be women’s officer but ‘The Labour councillor said that “lived experience as a woman” should be considered an advantage — but not a prerequisite — for the role of women’s officer.’

Lily could also have gone for the LGBT officer role but they didn’t want that. No, they wanted to show women that they can shit all over them and we will applaud them for doing it.

I’m absolutely furious about this ( as you can probably tell)

“what we need is for a female from a titled family to come forward and transition to being a man simply to usurp their older brother and take the family title and wealth and place in the House of Lords.”

Where can we find one of these?

Sentimentallentil · 21/11/2017 11:02

Sorry CAAKE but there’s already an exemption on inheritance, a woman wouldn’t be able to do that.

BertrandRussell · 21/11/2017 11:03

They've thought of that, CAAKE........

Datun · 21/11/2017 11:10

and not forcing compassionate/ empathetic men to become women as I think sometimes happens)

If the men were compassionate and empathetic, I don’t suppose we would have anywhere near as much of a problem.

Their empathy would allow them to understand women’s objections for a start.

Most people advocating for this are misogynistic men driven by self interest.

The ones who aren’t, like Miranda Yardley, are fully on board with sex segregation, know they are men and are therefore not a problem.

unplugmefromthematrix · 21/11/2017 11:25

That's the thing though isn't it sentimentallentil apart from physical biology and body parts, the only way to distinguish a man from a woman is by their society's gender presentations. In our society this = skirts/ dresses.

It just goes to show how nonsensical it is to reinforce gender roles and to reinforce gender over biology.

Elendon · 21/11/2017 11:26

A woman cannot identify as a male to claim inheritance. It's an exemption to the GRA act.

That article is excellent. Very comprehensive.

This stood out.

Moreover, young people say that gender matters less than it used to, which sits oddly with the spreading belief that gender dysphoria can be severe enough to justify the upheaval and risks of transitioning.

This is the cognitive dissonance required to think transgenderism dismantles gender.

On the face of it, it might. Wear what you like, present how you wish.

But the constant attaching, reshaping and re-attaching of labels is creating ever smaller boxes.

Non binary, gender fluid, gender questioning, pan sexual, queer.

Nothing escapes a label that has to be defined and re-defined, with sub divisions and necessary conditions until it disappears up its own arse.

And then they descend on clinics in their droves because they don’t fit.

Seriously. Feminism 101 should be mandatory at GCSE.

This would all disappear.

That was a very good article , thank you for the link.

Next labour women's caucus ...
unplugmefromthematrix · 21/11/2017 11:34

Yes, they have prohibited the HoL and inheritance issue, but it is largely on the quiet because there is on one actually standing up and demanding this as their - unlike Lily and friends. (and a male majority voting to protect male interests)

If someone actually wanted this right to usurp title and inheritance, an actual woman with a face and a voice, and was lobbying for it, with media attention, what would be the reaction? Could they actually continue to deny rights to FtM but continue to promote the MtF so blatantly?

Sentimentallentil · 21/11/2017 11:35

Absolutely unplugme it’s totally ridiculous, a skirt does not a woman make.
However I do believe that gender dysphoria is a real and very distressing illness and I have no problem with genuine dysphoric people transitioning if that gives them some comfort. The two years ‘living as a woman’ is a good thing, it allows the person transitioning time to see the real life consequences of becoming trans and it shows a level of commitment. It’s not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but it’s far better than the alternative on offer which is to just let people transition without the two years.

hackmum · 21/11/2017 11:45

Yup. They have an exemption for inheritance because they realise it's open to abuse by women.

On the other hand, they don't have an exemption for any of the areas that might be open to abuse by men (prisons, women's refuges etc).

Why, it's almost as if the law has been written by people who care more about men's rights than women's rights.

DamsonGin · 21/11/2017 12:00

That's shocking about inheritance, I had no idea, though I guess arseholes who think it's okay to discriminate at that level would simply name their favoured offspring in their wills were it to be changed.

OlennasWimple · 21/11/2017 12:03

They have an exemption for inheritance because they realise it's open to abuse by women.

My reading of it is that Parliament doesn't really believe in the ability for a man to become a woman (or vice versa) but is happy to let people pretend in various ways apart from when it really matters like hereditary peerages. (Which is the best example of a 1%er issue that I've come across)

OlennasWimple · 21/11/2017 12:04

Damson - you can't just name your daughter as your heir to the earldom of whatever. That's not how hereditary peerages in the UK work

Datun · 21/11/2017 12:10

I’m sure the House of Lords would go into meltdown if it started to be advertised and publicised that there is this exemption.

All those sons, at the moment, seeing their career path ahead of them ending up in the House of Lords. Suddenly realising that big sis could fuck them over, by filling out a form.

unplugmefromthematrix · 21/11/2017 12:14

datun or just by self identiying!!!!!!!! no form needed!!!!

SweetGrapes · 21/11/2017 12:15

But they can't Datun. Afaik- am I wrong? Please tell me I am wrong.

SirVixofVixHall · 21/11/2017 12:17

I'm not a party member but I voted Labour in the election. I absolutely would not vote for them now. Can't vote for the WEP as it is the same old rubbish, and as for the Greens..."non-men" anyone? I feel in a political void. I keep seeing that boy's face on Twitter and I'm feeling the RAGE. As for his "Saville's apprentice" tag and "rape.com". WTF?? What bunch of child and woman-hating morons elected him?
Also read Corbyn's cringey post on "Trans remembrance day" yesterday, spreading the lie that trans people are at risk wherever they go, when no trans person has been killed in the Uk in recent years. The trans people who do get killed are usually involved in prostitution, in South America in particular. With lives a world away from the self-obsessed "trans lesbian" white boys here. I have no respect for Corbyn now. I wouldn't vote for him. Sanctimonious giant adolescent.

OlennasWimple · 21/11/2017 12:19

Sweet - no, they can't. There is a carve out from the GRA that stops this happening

Datun · 21/11/2017 12:20

SweetGrapes

No they can’t. Women are not allowed to benefit from this law.

I just love to see the press get hold of it and put the wind up the House of Lords.

Because, I can’t think of a single justification for that exemption.

So I’d like to see them try it.

SirVixofVixHall · 21/11/2017 12:20

sentimentallentil- I too accept that dysphoria (as with anorexia) can be very distressing, but "living as a woman" What does that actually mean, other than resorting to stereotypes of dress/hair/makeup?? The only possible way of living as a woman, is to be a woman, and alive.

thecatfromjapan · 21/11/2017 12:27

I think the inheritance issue highlights one of the issues with trans rights:

People can own things.

Men are people.

Women aren't quite people.

Therefore, the things women 'have' aren't really theirs.

In fact, they aren't really 'owned' by anybody; are 'free' to all; if a woman is 'using' it, she is probably a trespasser/has 'stolen' it.

So laws are framed to stop trans people 'taking' things improperly by transitioning (inheritance legislation).

But laws aren't framed to protect the spaces of non-'real'-men (eg. 'women's spaces).

How could they be? they weren't 'real' in the first place?

BetsyM00 · 21/11/2017 12:29

Just following up from something NettleTea said upthread about the suicide risk, I had a search and found that according to the NHS Gender Identity Development Service there has only been ONE suicide in adolescents with GD in the last decade, and that was an inpatient who had severe psychiatric difficulties.
gids.nhs.uk/evidence-base

Once again, there is some serious manipulation going on by TRAs.

It’s patriarchy, innit.
