James O'Brien: what a twat

Explained in this link. Basically, he bullied and shut down a female caller who said she'd be frightened to share a changing room with men. He didn't just take an opposing view - he ridiculed her.

Yet another liberal bro reveals himself as a misogynist. And a stupid one. Even if he doesn't care about women in general, he has 2 pre-teen daughters. Will he really want them changing and showering with men?

Muslim people do not celebrate Christmas; they are not allowed to celebrate (in the proper sense of the word) a festival of the Unbeliever.

Sorry, I know this is off topic but: Christians are 'people of the book' not 'unbelievers' and Jesus is recognized as a prophet in Islam.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/11/2017 19:42

Its really off topic jelly

Are you on the right thread or have i missed something

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/11/2017 19:43

Ive probably missed something

I frequently do

ChakraLines · 17/11/2017 19:43

This is going off topic, but there's something else about LBC and that is how they choose callers. And that is to do with the accent of the caller. I am fairly well-spoken but am not chosen to go thru to air. However, my emails are accepted and read out. I have had a theory for some time, and that is the various producers who work for presenters are intent on giving air to (i) the glottal stoppers, (ii) foreign people, (iii) the angry & loud. Are they concerned not to give airtime to callers who speak naicely for fear of being viewed as ... what?

Jayfee · 17/11/2017 20:29

Does anyone know the big radio award prize that James ob is up for? he was boasting about it on lbc..in his usual mock self deprecating way

Labtest7 · 17/11/2017 21:28

If they are screening callers based on accent, grammar etc, they clearly slipped up when they let a man called Sammy on air during a discussion about Trump's travel ban. He exposed JOB for the fool he is. I did notice during that call, that he used exactly the same expression as he did when speaking to Kellie; 'This is clearly an area of expertise for you.'

ChakraLines · 17/11/2017 21:39

Do tell, Labtest, how did Sammy deal with JOB? Interestingly that convo didn't make it to the "James O'Brien's Top Ten Stories This Week" - an email with JOB's best bits circularised.

Jayfee - It might be the Sony Radio Award he's up for.

nauticant · 17/11/2017 21:40

Rufustherenegadereindeer1, the comment by jellyfrizz was on the right thread. It was a response to (and quoted) a rather strange post from a few hours ago.

I enjoyed listening to JOB in the period after Brexit but as time went on I was aware that I was enjoying it like you enjoy eating junk food. Nice as a treat but if you eat it all the time it starts to make you feel nauseous.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/11/2017 21:43

Thanks nauticant

I knew i had missed something

Not much from what you are saying...but still something

Sorry jelly

Labtest7 · 17/11/2017 21:47

Chakralines this isn't the link. Enjoy at your leisure 😄

Labtest7 · 17/11/2017 21:48

I of course meant 'this is the link!!'

FarFrom · 17/11/2017 21:59

So many here also sound sympathetic to brexit and appreciate farage’s manners and dislike the anti trump rhetoric from o brien etc. Ferrari is preferable it seems.

Not betrand I gather but interesting to see what political and social ideas go together.

Farfrom - two people, on a thread with over 350 posts. That's not "so many here", is it? Not if we're going to be accurate. And "guilt by association" is not a particularly convincing debating technique either.

ChakraLines · 17/11/2017 22:09

I've just found & listened to that caller, Labtest. The trouble with people like JOB is that he does not understand the concept of Enemy, Danger and Protection. Trump's temporary country ban was on 6 countries only, but James O'Brien was adamant that other Muslim-majority countries were NOT included because Trump must have business in those countries. Sammy patiently explained at least 5 times that the temp ban was based on intelligence and analysis of danger to the USA from without. JOB fell back on one of his favourites - Zionism.

ShoesHaveSouls · 17/11/2017 22:09

God no!

I'm a total remainer, and enjoy anti-Trump rhetoric wherever possible. Grin Farage is a toad. Actually that's insulting to toads.

I like James O'B - which is why this came as surprise to me. Not the sympathy towards towards trans people, but the bullying tone of treatment to Kellie.

FarFrom · 17/11/2017 22:15

Good glad to hear it! But there are comments about this and maybe I am putting different things together but it doesn’t surprise me to see these comments here based on other threads about refugees for example.

ChakraLines · 17/11/2017 22:19

nauticant - nothing strange about that post at all unless you are unfamiliar with LBC and the names of its presenters, and the recent upset felt by some over the Tesco ad also discussed on the radio. If you don't get it, you don't get it.

ChakraLines · 17/11/2017 22:24

FarFrom - this thread has 14 pages so far. Give us the page number where comments somehow connect to refugees on other threads. !!

FarFrom · 17/11/2017 22:31

Chakra they dont. I’m just connecting to orher threads on these boards (and I think with some of the same posters- certainly the same phrases) where for example we shouldn’t let young men from Calais (traumatised and living in the mud) into the uk because of the apparent threat to women.
In my opinion it opens similar questions about power, deprivation, privilege and vulnerability- I feel much more lucky than both young men from Sudan living in mud in Calais and a 16 year old boy (or girl) who feels they are born in the wrong body.

I agree with thehumanrace

Unless ive missed something...again

FarFrom · 17/11/2017 22:35

Human- I feel I am saying exactly what I think. But thank you for telling me to shut the fuck up.

FarFrom · 17/11/2017 22:37

im not sure what nods you think I’m making - if you look back I’m quite clear what I think

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/11/2017 22:38

far

She didnt tell you to shut the fuck up

She said if you have something to say...say it, or shut the fuck up

I apologise if i have it wrong but its a really cheap shot to make vague references to other threads and potentially racist or xenophobic remarks
