I may actually try and go to this if I am feeling brave.

The Anti Capitalist Queers, of the protest.

Seeingadistance · 11/01/2018 18:19

So, an MSP, an elected representative, supports and is involved in the harassment and attempted silencing of people, mostly women, who meet to discuss the implications of legislation proposed by the Parliament to which he was elected?!

Ereshkigal · 11/01/2018 18:25

We don't know that for definite unless he likes the post etc. But maybe people should put him on the spot about it.

PlectrumElectrum · 11/01/2018 18:27

'I was bravely hiding in a corner.'

Grin me too! I was at the back trying to figure out an escape route if it really kicked off...

Just so everyone is aware, ITV were filming not just from the back by from the middle as well so they def got some faces in too. I caught sight of the camera at one point & it was looking back from the area at the side where we came in. My mug is highly likely to feature (along with assigned & 53rdway, and anyone else on the right to the back).

Ereshkigal. Membership of a closed group of that particular FB is pretty damning on its own, I'd say.

Wonder when and where his next surgery is...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/01/2018 18:36

Is it wrong of me to be quite tempted to namechange to "Agent of the Cishetpatriarchy"

Can someone tweet the MSP and ask him why he’s a member? I’m not on twitter.

Seeingadistance · 11/01/2018 18:45

I do have a twitter account, but I've rarely used it, and don't really know how it works.

It would be good to ask him what his connection is with that group, and if he agrees that those he represents should be prevented from meeting and speaking together.

Ereshkigal · 11/01/2018 18:48

Ok fair enough. I don't know the group.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/01/2018 18:52

Would be best from one.of his constituents - I don't think I'm one thank god

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/01/2018 19:24

You've can have it. I've had this name for so long now I'm actually quite attached to it Smile

OP posts:
AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/01/2018 19:34

Nah it's ok. Agent might like it though!

AgentProvocateur · 11/01/2018 20:47

Ha! I can’t remembef enough of my sign-in details to name change.

Is he a list msp? I have a horrible feeling he might be mine. I wonder what Patrick Harvie’s views are.

camomileteadrinker · 11/01/2018 21:21

I am a new Mumsnet user having spoken to a few of you last night, finally worked out how to change my user name! I'm still feeling very overwhelmed by the meeting. I can hardly settle to stuff today. I really was glad to meet the women I met last night, Terry, Itsallgoingtobefine et al, and to have a connection. It felt like a dam bursting. I feel that the bravest thing to do is connect. The biggest thing they have over us is fear of exposure, but ultimately there is more at stake than this, if they have us so scared to introduce ourselves, so scared to meet then how is this going to go on? What human rights will remain if this continues? How many minority issues need we be divided by and suffocated by? This is surely the time to be strong enough to take a chance and arrange a meeting? I was thinking somewhere like the CCA, maybe a Saturday afternoon? I will be there if others want to!?

cromeyellow0 · 11/01/2018 21:31

Response from @Ross_Greer:

I support trans people, not transphobes.

Redonionricedpotato · 11/01/2018 21:35

Seriously crone???

gunsandbanjos · 11/01/2018 21:40

Quite the smart one is Ross by the sounds of it. I despair.

Seeingadistance · 11/01/2018 21:41

Are you tweeting him, cromeyellow0?

If so, could you ask him why he supports the intimidation and harassment of women when they meet to discuss proposed legislation which the Parliament he is elected to is holding a consultation? Why is he seeking to suppress one particular point of view and prevent that perspective being expressed in that public consultation?

Seeingadistance · 11/01/2018 21:44

Hi, camomiletreedrinker! I think we met outside the Central Hotel last night - being angry and ranty!

Ereshkigal · 11/01/2018 21:53

"I support men, not women"

camomileteadrinker · 11/01/2018 21:56

Hello! Yes Lovely to meet
! I would definitely like to talk more than on
a cold street under stress!! We really should be brave enough to take a chance on building some connections and relationships, otherwise I do not see how we can oppose this or if the worst comes, support each other through the new legislation. And I want to stop this, it has already gone too far! PS I hated being manipulated by ITV and dread to see what they do to us all. I find it odd that no activists ever entered a meeting until last night and low and behold a film crew - too convenient.

Snowdrop18 · 11/01/2018 22:03

I haven't heard anything about this on the news so thank you for updates

surely the "potentially dangerous" reference means they were planning to kick off themselves?

Seeingadistance · 11/01/2018 22:08

I do think we should all meet, and soon, but we can't organise it on this thread. I've just sent a message to Plectrum who was messaging people before the meeting to see how best we can communicate with each other. I don't know if she was able to set up a group here or if she had to pm everyone individually, which is a bit of a hassle.

I'm also conscious that there are things I would like to say here, but don't, because it's a public space. And Scotland is a small country, so people know people who know people.
