apparently, she said this at a dinner tonight

Can you comment on that article? Because it's so annoying I would really like to comment. The one thing you would have thought you could rely on the bloody Tories to do would be not to push this stupid agenda.

Slimthistime · 18/10/2017 22:32

It doesn't look as if you can

for a minute there, I thought you meant me - I did actually hit post too soon Grin

my mum keeps telling me this is bonkers it can't possibly happen - but clearly it will. I wonder what happens when women start to self ID as men.

It seems like there's no politician left who isn't just going along with this - my feeling is they might not agree with it, but can't be seen to be disagreeing with it.

I just wish the people pushing this would take a moment to actually think about what it all means.

I live in hope that there are enough sensible people in the Parliament to ensure that this never becomes law.

Datun · 18/10/2017 22:38

She is so ill informed. There are no invasive medical tests for fuck’s sake.

If she is determined not to have it treated as an illness, then I take it treatment will not be provided by the NHS.

And how on earth is removing the criteria for gender dysphoria going to affect discrimination?

I also suspect she has absolutely no idea exactly how many MPs have been written to about this. I sincerely hope enough have got to grips with the issue to provide her with some opposition.

MrsKCastle · 18/10/2017 22:41

Sadly, I think this is going through, like it or not. It's portrayed as purely a tolerance issue, people believe that we must allow self ID because anything else would be cruel and bigoted.

AssassinatedBeauty · 18/10/2017 22:41

Why is so much misinformation propagated on this? It's bizarre, things are being discussed as fact and you can't raise it with anyone because you get branded transphobic and bigoted immediately.

busyboysmum · 18/10/2017 22:46

It's incredibly annoying virtue signalling. Has she not considered prisons, sports etc?

FirstShinyRobe · 18/10/2017 22:48

Yes, sorry for all those gender dysphoric people for whom medical intervention is a panacea, but the logical conclusion to that stance is no more funding from the state.

I seriously don't get it. What's the hook that is making so many people in power lose all rationality?

drwitch · 18/10/2017 22:48

So I have been thinking about why Tories are so supportive of the trans agenda and I think it is because like the limited social mobility in the 19th century which had new comers to wealth always trying to pass as old money it actually serves to cement rather than break down tradition and gender roles

SmartiesHaveTheAnswer · 18/10/2017 22:50

I'm really worried that someone with so much power, can blindly sleepwalk into passing this kind of act.

Datun · 18/10/2017 22:52

Surely they must see this as a cote winner. Either they think it’s progressive, or they think other people think it’s progressive.

I hope there is enough time to get the media talking about this.

CancellyMcChequeface · 18/10/2017 22:57

I'd like to ask her what she thinks of the fact that the only exception to self-ID will apparently be women identifying as men if it means that by doing so they inherit titles over their younger brothers. They're still women, regardless of their inner gender identity or feelings. Why isn't this being decried as transphobic, when having doubts about a man identifying as a woman being awarded a women's scholarship apparently is?

Is there any answer that isn't essentially 'because male privilege'?

busyboysmum · 18/10/2017 22:59

Well Iran loves it. You're forced there as a homosexual to transition into the other sex. So it must a really be deeply regressive and enforce strong gender roles I guess. Plus has the added benefit of sterilizing gay people so they can't spread the gay gene? Is maybe the thinking?

Slimthistime · 18/10/2017 22:59

First "I seriously don't get it. What's the hook that is making so many people in power lose all rationality?"

I don't get it either.

I initially had a response from my local MP which said I had misunderstood things and talked rubbish about "living as a man/woman" and then when I sent another reply asking for clarification, I heard nothing.

he is normally really good at replying promptly but I think he is really hoping I don't chase up on this one.

Is it possible that politicians are thinking in reality it won't happen much at all? I'm willing to bet most of them won't even have heard of Muscato (for example) or notice what's going on in prisons.

A lot of teens who ID as transgender have autism so sterilising them gets rid of the 'autistic gene' as well.

Trailedanderror · 18/10/2017 23:07

Head. Desk.
Whoever put Brave New World Handmaids Tale and 1984 on the curriculum has a lot to answer for.

DonkeyOaty · 18/10/2017 23:09

DrCB that is a very good though bleak and sobering point.

doctorcuntybollocks · 18/10/2017 23:10

I can't decide whether we're sleepwalking into a crazy new version of hell on earth or whether there's some intent behind this. The trans movement is taking down women's rights and gay rights and has the potential to ruin the entire civil rights movement by association.

doctorcuntybollocks · 18/10/2017 23:14

Donkey, I think the children who are being destroyed are considered particularly 'expendable'.

SelmaAndJubjub · 18/10/2017 23:17

MPs know that the public hated mixed hospital wards and the Tories often boast about eliminating them. If you have a Tory MP, it's worth pointing out that self ID will allow men into all wards and other private spaces. Ask them how they think that will go down with the public?

It's also really important to make the point that 80% of TIM do not undergo hormone or surgical treatment and are sexually attracted to women. Most people assume they are vulnerable gay guys who have undergone surgery.

Give MPs specific examples of the problems - cuttings or a link to Muscato in the women's shelter, the attacks on women in Target unisex changing rooms etc.

DonkeyOaty · 18/10/2017 23:29

yy to expendable. Collateral damage innit. Jeeze.

DJBaggySmalls · 19/10/2017 00:01

This is my conspiracy theory;
This is is a right wing agenda. The aim is to make people turn away from anything thats connected to feminism or LGB, and move them to the right and conservatism. Along the lines of forcing your kid to smoke a packet of cigarettes to put them off smoking.
As a bonus they become profitable lifelong medical patients, malleable and controllable through supply of the drugs they want.

If I'm proved wrong in 10 years time, I will eat my hat for charity. But since gay kids are being encouraged to sterilise themselves in a way that would make Mengeles and Goebbels proud, I think my hat is safe.

doctorcuntybollocks · 19/10/2017 00:07

Whether it's that calculated or not - and as I say, I'm undecided - the effect will be a huge lurch to the right.

SelmaAndJubjub · 19/10/2017 00:11

I don’t think it’s a conspiracy, though I do think pharma companies are now fuelling it. I think it’s the triumph of post-modernism. It’s much much broader than transgenderism - it’s everything from Gove’s “We’ve had enough of experts” to no-platforming.
