I've scrolled back a few pages and I can't even find the last pub thread.

So I've taken the beer towels off the pumps, tapped a new barrel, polished the glasses, fed the goat and applied brasso to the patriarchy busting canon.

Come and join me - all tastes catered for - beer, gin, wine, cocktails, coffee and a nice cup of tea.

Hi, back from my smoke Smile how do I block on twitter? I've just rejoined after several years to support Liz and I've got followers I don't want. I'm on my phone. Thanks.

IrisAtwood · 17/12/2017 18:16

I love Prickly’s description of The Bluestocking. I would like to add Doris Lessing and Angela Carter to the portraits.

Think I've managed it! Now I've got rid of my paedo followers, off to find some sensible informative people to follow Smile

Kimlek · 17/12/2017 18:51

Could I join please? I already have a glass of red. It needs a top up so I may grab a notepad and pen at the same time. D’you mind if I take notes and research later? I’ve only heard of Germaine Greer and Margaret Atwood so need to look up the others. Your book suggestions sound great too. I’m feeling very out of my depth but happy to sit and listen.

Kimlek · 17/12/2017 18:53

wtaf is it worth joining Twitter? Where else other than in this blue stocking pub can I ‘follow’ informative sensible as please?

WTAFisthisshit · 17/12/2017 19:01

Kimlek my personal opinion is that twitter is a cesspit that's best avoided! However I have returned following a request on another thread to support an MP. So far I'm following (in no particular order) Caroline Flint, Jess Philips, Posie Parker, Lily Maynard, Jennifer James, Meghan Murphy, glosswitch, Anne Ruzylo, fair play for woman, 4th wave, transgender trender, prime minister, news channels and seeing where I go from there. I agree with what Liz has posted that this discussion needs to be taken off social media and into a proper informed debate, with the necessary protections in place to enable MPs to express their/their constituents views without fear of recriminations.

Off for another fag now! May have a mulled wine when I come back.

On a totally unrelated note I am attempting to play a weird multi player minecraft game with DS. So faI hhave nearly drowned several times due to my complete inability to climb ladders, inadvertently killed my baby dinosaur (thought I was feeding him and bopped him on the head with an iron sword instead), and between us we have managed to kill the nice archaeologist chappie we were meant to be rescuing (dunno how we're going to explain that to Maggie, his girlfriend and the nice vet who told us how to tame the dinosaurs). As DS would say I'm a complete noob.

Fortunately radio 3 has Bach's Christmas Oratorio on which is making the whole experience slightly more bearable.

Oh fuck now it's parcour with pools of molten lava. (When I say we killed the nice geologist chappie we didn't actively kill him, we merely failed to stop him being eaten by a dinosaur).

I read Twitter but don't post. It is a cesspit. Mary Beard, JK Rowling, Sister Outrider, Julie Bindel are also worth a follow.

On Facebook I follow man who has it All, radfem collective, a site called MUH men's rights activism, feminist current and the pool.

Kimlek · 17/12/2017 19:29

Oh prickly that’s made me roar with laughter!! I’m now googling all wtafs ‘followed’ on Twitter. Someone mentioned an FB page earlier - I’ve scrolled back but can’t find it - I’m on FB so following that would be a start. Thank you!

Kimlek · 17/12/2017 19:32

Oops cross posted quentin although there was another FB page mentioned. But I’ll check yours out. Thank you!

whitehandledkitchenknife · 17/12/2017 23:13

Iris - how could I have forgotten the mighty Doris Lessing?

< places a very old copy of 'Our Bodies Ourselves' on the shelf in Virago Corner>

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 18/12/2017 14:34

Oh Angela Carter how I love thee.

I rescued a copy of her fairytales from the 3-5 year old's section of waterstones the other day though. I'm not sure many parents of toddlers would appreciate the Eskimo fairytales in particular Grin

Nyx1 · 18/12/2017 14:42

ooh I need a hot chocolate

this really is the depths of winter, I've had a long walk but it was like every surface was slippery and horrible and it will be dark soon, meh.

Popped into our tiny library (used to be good size, but cuts....) I honestly wonder what they did with the books.

I'd quite like to read some of Nina Bawden's adult novels if anyone has any recommendations?

IrisAtwood · 18/12/2017 15:33

Oh blimey, that could have traumatised a few parents. Hopefully the children wouldn’t have understood much of it! I wonder where they filed The Female Eunuch - biological sciences? Wise Children would be in child development? The Passion of the New Eve in religion? Burning Your Boats in outside pursuits?

How many remember the campaign to reshelve Tony Blair’s memoirs in Fiction? There was a social media campaign and activists would take the opportunity whenever they were in a bookshop to reshelve any copies they could find.

whitehandle there are so many women who could be included though! (But Doris Lessing should definitely have a spot).

Prickly love your account of the game. I would only play some games with infinite lives because I hated being responsible for people dying!

Love the re shelving of Tony Blair!

QuentinSummers · 18/12/2017 20:45

Ffs have now got myself entangled with a misogynist on a male friends FB. It is putting me off the man involved.
Does anyone know why the Liam Allan thread was pulled? Pm Me!

WhatWouldGenghisDo · 18/12/2017 21:00

Speculation about a potentially ongoing legal case I think Quentin

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 18/12/2017 21:04

I wondered as well quentin

I know the other one was deleted due to speculation but the one on the feminist board was ok last i saw

It obviously went downhill if thats what what saw

ladyballs · 18/12/2017 21:38

I briefly worked in a bookshop and Blair's memoirs kept being moved to True Crime.

IrisAtwood · 18/12/2017 22:20

True crime - sounds good. Maybe I have misremembered!

ladyballs · 19/12/2017 07:22

Either works. Grin

Nyx1 · 19/12/2017 09:50

apparently Matt Damon can't stop talking.

Woman hater.

WhatWouldGenghisDo · 19/12/2017 14:02

NAMALT, it's not as if it's real rape, blah blah blah.

If they're going to talk clueless bollocks you'd think they could come up with something a bit more imaginative Hmm

Beltane18 · 19/12/2017 14:41

ladyballs "I briefly worked in a bookshop and Blair's memoirs kept being moved to True Crime."
