I've scrolled back a few pages and I can't even find the last pub thread.

So I've taken the beer towels off the pumps, tapped a new barrel, polished the glasses, fed the goat and applied brasso to the patriarchy busting canon.

Come and join me - all tastes catered for - beer, gin, wine, cocktails, coffee and a nice cup of tea.

I used to think men just didn't understand it but all this uproar about Liam Allan/Matt Damon being a cock makes me realise they totally understand it but they don't care. The merest hint of a false accusation to a man is worse than women being raped/assaulted. And God forbid it becomes unacceptable to pat an arse, especially as a film star.
I'm really disliking men today

Beltane18 · 19/12/2017 18:40

Quentin "And God forbid it becomes unacceptable to pat an arse, especially as a film star."

yes. I find a lot of men are incredibly touchy feely and I've always hated that. I would actually really like for it to just stop. but there seem to be quite a few women who object to that idea too.

in a professional context - just don't touch people unless required in your movie scene! I don't see what is difficult.

WhatWouldGenghisDo · 19/12/2017 18:58

It's like they think there's some kind of bargain at work:

"We'll pretend we think rape is this really heinous offence as long as you restrict your disclosures and characterisation of sexual violence to the kind that people like us never commit (stranger/dark alley/ski mask etc)"

Now they're getting arsey because women have broken the agreement metooing all over the place

Beltane18 · 19/12/2017 19:51

I once heard a man say "oh it's not as straightforward as not touching people at work. I mean, suppose someone was upset about something, it could be seen as uncaring if you didn't put an arm round them".

Um, what, you think they will raise a grievance about you for being uncaring?!

Beltane18 · 19/12/2017 19:53

The Liam Allan case bothers me because no matter what messages were exchanged, she still could have said no on one occasion. I haven't seen any reporting which acknowledges that. but I suppose they are on bizarre restrictions.

Just discovered something somewhat scary on a friend's tumblr account (I do not tumble myself, but occasionally dip into hers because we share some hobbies). Instructions on how to track the IP address of tumblr users you don't like! Like a recipe for (starting) the doxxing process (will give you approximate geographical location, service provider, that sort of thing, not actual name and address). I am gobsmacked.

I have however just tried the methodology on mumsnet and on a couple of other sites I use regularly, and it appears the same game of finding out a user's IP address cannot be played here, thank goodness. (My guess is tumblr is just very insecurely coded.) I'm currently googling VPN servers so that my internet usage becomes that bit more secure.

OMG I never properly got to grips with tumblr, though I probably still have an account on there.

That's horrific!

PricklyBall · 19/12/2017 20:29

Actually, panic not, WTAF - it turns out it's anon requests that it allows you to doxx. On checking, it turns out that actual tumblr usernames don't work the same way.

WTAFisthisshit · 19/12/2017 20:34

Ah right so like ask.fm where it was fairly easy to trace anonymous?

PricklyBall · 19/12/2017 20:35

I don't know about that site - will pm you details.

Oops, I mentioned "feminism is about choice" on the dodgy facts heard on mn thread... Grin

Beltane18 · 21/12/2017 17:29

I have to go for dinner and I need something to wake me up but make me not wired....? JD and Coke?!

I wonder if modern day feminists will need to consider similar acts to those undertaken by suffragettes soon.

Datun · 21/12/2017 17:45

JD and coke will absolutely wake you up.

Beltane18 · 21/12/2017 18:06

thanks Datun, that'll be it then.

Going to have to try to resist general ranting about misogyny with my friend tonight....!! she's driving so can't drink to tune me out Grin

Beltane18 · 21/12/2017 18:07

btw it's completely fine to ask your PA to buy your sex toys, it doesn't breach any ministerial codes. i think female MPs should start issuing sex toy lists to male assistants immedately.....

Stopmakingsense · 21/12/2017 18:23

Private Eye is unashamedly gender critical - from today's edition.

Beware the Jack and Coke combo. Drunk, but wired!

WTAFisthisshit · 21/12/2017 19:06

Hahahahaha

That's even better than the ladybird books!

Nineteenagain · 21/12/2017 20:04

Stopmakingsense
Thats excellent!

Kimlek · 22/12/2017 02:21

Just wondering if you’re open for a quick nightcap. Have a bruised forehead from banging it in the Poundland teabag thread.

Beltane18 · 22/12/2017 02:36

Good on you, Kimlek, I'll buy you whatever you like. (Maybe not a magnum of Krug, lol).

I honestly worry that women who can't see misogyny where it's screamingly obvious have the potentially to end up with nasty friends and dangerous relationships.

The tweets directed at those who were concerned by the ad....might as well just say, lie down and take it,woman, that's your job. Telling Women's Aid to give it a rest.

Another case of the micro informing the macro.

CaptainWarbeck · 22/12/2017 07:25

Morning all. I'm just nursing a coffee and pondering two articles I've just read in an Australian copy of Marie Claire.

  1. Learn to drop the ball women! Cut out what is not important, delegate what you can, draw up a list of necessary chores and split evenly between you and your partner. DO NOT pick up their ball when they make a hash of it; leave them to it and they will learn. It was like reading a thread in feminism chat.

  2. the huge rise of labiaplasty in young women and how this is potentially comparable to FGM and could be banned if solely for cosmetic reasons as this is deemed cultural and therefore not a reasoned sensible choice.

Winning on both counts there I think.

QuentinSummers · 22/12/2017 08:05

Well done Marie Claire! They sound like good articles. Labiaplasty makes me want to cross my legs. Just why? I have never heard of a man with a big foreskin getting it trimmed. Ugh

QuentinSummers · 22/12/2017 08:06

kimlek I'm going to have a look at that thread now

WTAFisthisshit · 22/12/2017 08:15

Always did like Marie Claire, it's probably the most intelligent thing I read (other than hanging around this board)
