I've scrolled back a few pages and I can't even find the last pub thread.

So I've taken the beer towels off the pumps, tapped a new barrel, polished the glasses, fed the goat and applied brasso to the patriarchy busting canon.

Come and join me - all tastes catered for - beer, gin, wine, cocktails, coffee and a nice cup of tea.

Nyx1 - it is indeed. And that is why boss has already set in motion that we will respond to this from our professional ethics stance and not in conjunction with other agencies. We have an opportunity here to state an evidence based case and challenge the root of this.

Hot chocolate for me, whilst I'm here. Brew

whitehandledkitchenknife · 10/12/2017 11:22

I should add that the training was not 'official' training, it was a CPD event.

Nyx1 · 10/12/2017 13:38

White - I hope more companies follow your lead. I was reading about Heather Dunn the other day and my WTF level increased - can't find the article I wanted to link to, it was from a uni so I wonder if it's been removed?

Nyx1 · 11/12/2017 17:05

I've just discovered one of the young people on my volunteer thing (she is 21) is a supporter of trans rights. She is angry with this guy.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-42312342

I suppose it was bound to happen, there's probably others in my known circle and I don't know.

Terrylene · 11/12/2017 17:18

I would just channel my inner June Whitfield and say 'that's nice dear' Hmm or whatever is more appropriate, then let her say what she wants and chip away round the edges with a bit of rationality occasionally.

I have just been reading about Christian concern and also Canadian Mennonites and think that they may be hardier and more up to speed than I first thought. Wink

BeyondAssignation · 11/12/2017 17:59

Oo I forgot to say - there was a thread recently about a particular women's charity and their stance on transwomen (I'm deliberately not naming it in the post!!). Well, I spoke to someone about it (who works for them) and she said the official policy is "deliberately vague" to avoid a shitstorm...
It looks like the high-ups haven't bought into choicey choicey feminism in general too - we were attending a "swerfy" event at the time and she said the charity's stance on SW was that it was a Bad Thing, Full Stop.

Nyx1 · 11/12/2017 18:06

Beyond, what's a swerfy please?

Yes, I'm not going to say anything to anyone who does "have you heard about"...unless it's a really good friend and I have time to have the conversation.

I have to do a late shift now so I haven't vanished...back at some point tomorrow. Enjoy warming drinks!

BeyondAssignation · 11/12/2017 18:12

The porn/prostitution equivalent insult to TERF - sex worker exclusionary radical feminist.
(Obviously radical feminism doesn't actually exclude "sex workers", it's the industry we take issue with. But everyone loves an acronym...)

RadicalFern · 11/12/2017 18:20

it will make my vagina clang shut like a portcullis

New favourite phrase! Made me smile a lot and I've had a grim day.

PricklyBall · 11/12/2017 20:14

I prefer to describe myself as a PPERF -pnter and pmp excluding radical-ish feminist. (I've asterisked them out cos the tossers do Internet searches for threads like this then descend like a swarm of fucking locusts). It makes me wish I was a religious believer because I quite like the idea of bastards who abuse women rotting in hell.

Beyondassignation I guess it might have been the thread I started. In which case I am very relieved and will invest in a 'well behaved women rarely make history' mug- or summat

Good to know not everyone has drunk the kool aid.

Nyx1 · 12/12/2017 11:34

Thanks Beyond.

the world is so bizarre right now, it does my head in.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 12/12/2017 14:58

Fooking hell. Ventured into a AIBU thread.

Holy Moly, it's harsh over there, so I've scurried back here for a wee whisky toddy to calm the nerves

DON'T MAKE ME GO BACK THERE!

Nyx1 · 12/12/2017 15:02

Assigned

it's all right, no one will make you go back Grin

I have a make up ad popping up - won't name it because then there'll be more I expect - and I honestly can't tell if the picture is a woman or a doll. Wish that was a joke. But really, I peered at it carefully and I can't tell.

I am on a cleaning frenzy. I don't know why because it just means I'll be pooped before late shift. I think shifts cause odd patterns of laziness and then hyperactiveness.

Teufelsrad · 12/12/2017 15:27

Hello to all.Apologies if this is the wrong thread for this, but I was a Mmsnetter for years, though stopped posting about two years ago, but I'm becoming increasingly angry over the way woman are treated, and it's time to channel that anger and I'm hoping this forum can help me do that.

I just finished reading The War On Women and then read an article which was so dismissive of the suffering women endure, that it sent my blood pressure sky high and made me realise that I need to do more.

Nyx1 · 12/12/2017 16:09

hi Teufelsrad, I'll buy you a drink, welcome along.

It is hard. there are times I have to walk away from what I'm reading and make an effort to be less ragey, but then there's also times to channel that rage.

whitehandledkitchenknife · 12/12/2017 17:27

That whisky bottle still out Nyx1? Large. Neat. Please.

I've just had an interesting conversation with a friend who plays Roller Derby. Anyone who knows about RD, knows that it is a place of safety and refuge for all kinds of gender non-conforming bods. It is actively inclusive and, importantly, kind and welcoming to a wide range of people.

I asked her if she had heard about the impending amendments to the GRA. What did she/her teammates think?
She hadn't heard of it.TBF, she is a gentle 'let's everybody get along together and be nice' sort. except when she is playing
So, one quick, abridged update later, accompanied by some probing questions from her and she's horrified and is on a mission to spread the word.

Another little step along the way.

Teufelsrad · 12/12/2017 21:53

Thank you Nyx1. Diet coke or ginger beer would be great, thanks.

It certainly can be infuriating. My anger has been growing for months now, but hopefully for the sake of my teeth, which are about to be ground into stumps, I can make use of this forum, and other resources, to actually attempt to do something about the treatment of women.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 12/12/2017 22:54

Well done whitehandle

whitehandledkitchenknife · 12/12/2017 23:04

I've watched a few games Certain - it's totally mad! Grin

whitehandledkitchenknife · 12/12/2017 23:06

Belated welcome to Teufelsrad, btw.
Wine
I hope the blood pressure has settled a little.

BeyondAssignation · 12/12/2017 23:25

Hi teufe Wine

Nyx1 · 13/12/2017 14:49

I think I'm ready for another cup of tea.

Random question but probably something someone here will know....are museums, galleries etc very busy between Xmas and New Year? I often find the Tube is quieter in that period so it might be a good time to go.

Also, has anyone been to the Harry Potter & magic exhibition at the British Library? I know we need to book in advance for that, just wondering if it's good. Hard to tell if it's more general or more Harry Potter.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 13/12/2017 16:23

I think they might be empty nyx. Because we are all lying on sofas up and down the country eating mince pies.

Nyx1 · 13/12/2017 17:48

Certain, I thought you'd say yes because people were at the sales Grin
