I've scrolled back a few pages and I can't even find the last pub thread.

So I've taken the beer towels off the pumps, tapped a new barrel, polished the glasses, fed the goat and applied brasso to the patriarchy busting canon.

Come and join me - all tastes catered for - beer, gin, wine, cocktails, coffee and a nice cup of tea.

Mumsnetter here since 2004 but recent years spent in the internet black hole that is Twitter.

Time for a drink.

QuentinSummers · 04/12/2017 19:32

Sorry Nyx. I am a bit bored of trans stuff and licking my wounds after the stupid PCOS thread at the weekend.

dorade · 04/12/2017 19:33

Whitehandledkitchenknife. Do you mean in one glass? If so try a Baileys and Jameson. It's how they would have made it if they'd been concentrating.

dorade · 04/12/2017 19:39

AssignedPerfectAtBirth (love the name!). I doubt it was wasted. I've been on twitter for a couple of years posting gender critical stuff, under my own name, and I've been surprised how many people I know who have messaged me to say that at first they just thought I was a transphobe but now they realise what is going on. It's not wasted. Think of the lurkers!

Nyx1 · 04/12/2017 19:40

oh dear Quentin, I didn't see that.

there's a group on Twitter asking for 50:50 "gender" representation in Parliament, no prizes for guessing what I wondered first!

Celebrity Big Brother are apparently doing the next show to celebrate the centenary of women's suffrage. Major eyerolls from me.

Baileys and Jameson?! Sounds a bit strange....

TiredOfThisAll · 04/12/2017 21:22

Yes, I am done with having to explain that sex is biology and gender is a construct too.

Someone posted some fantastic links to an intersex blog site the other day, which is well-referenced and interesting. I first heard an advocate for raising awareness of intersex issues in 2000; I cannot remember her name, she was amazing. What a shame that their cause has been co-opted by TRAs too.

TiredOfThisAll · 04/12/2017 21:24

I hope CBB remember to mention that in 1918 it was only women over 30 who met certain property conditions who were granted the vote, not all women on the same terms as men...

whitehandledkitchenknife · 04/12/2017 21:35

Aah dorade, I was being daft. It was the the silliest combination I could think of in the moment. Channeling my inner Del Boy.

I'm really hoping that the Girl Guide debacle will blow the lid on all of this nonsense.

(And I've still had no response - good, bad or indifferent - to the Helen Steel video that I posted on my fb page.)

whitehandledkitchenknife · 04/12/2017 21:37

But, whilst I'm here, I'll have a small Jameson. Straight up.

Nyx1 · 04/12/2017 21:50

Tired, I kind of think the suffragettes wouldn't be wildly keen on the link anyway

My dad didn't even know about how hard men without the right property qualifications had to fight for the vote. Mum knew, I suppose there's always been a huge range of what gets taught in history in different schools.

He also didn't know why a secret ballot was given.

Sentimentallentil · 04/12/2017 22:28

Hey everyone,

Can I join you all on here? Mines a g&t.

Gingernaut · 05/12/2017 13:05

Anyone follow Jason Manford on Facebook?

The Bluestocking is open for business
QuentinSummers · 05/12/2017 13:10

Nice

CaptainWarbeck · 06/12/2017 01:15

Great Jason, so you prefer vaginas to actual humans. Hilarious.

I've obviously lost my sense of humour with that one.

Terrylene · 06/12/2017 15:36

I have been reading Skepticat's twitter, and it appears that the way you tell men from women is by their finger length and elbow creases. Who knew! Confused (ref 'Susan's' apparently Grin )

Gin
Nyx1 · 06/12/2017 20:37

Terrylene - elbows? I don't imagine it's that easy to see?

I feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall today. I know it's important to keep banging but it is hard.

btw reading Taylor Swift's account of her court case, she mentioned how she stopped caring about the language she used and just bluntly said "he grabbed my ass" etc. I was thinking, what else would you say in court? They can't expect you to say "posterior" surely?!

Nyx1 · 06/12/2017 20:37

Nyx "I know it's important to keep banging but it is hard."

and I've just realised how much my sister would laugh at that statement Grin

Terrylene · 06/12/2017 20:59

Grin You've gotta laugh.

Gin? My round.

Nyx1 · 06/12/2017 21:14

thank you Terry
Mine's a vodka please

btw does anyone know what happened to Buffy?

Thelilywhite · 06/12/2017 21:20

I was wondering that too. Name changed?

TiredOfThisAll · 06/12/2017 21:39

I was wondering that too. I hope she is okay. I noticed when I was looking back for another reason, that some of her posts had been withdrawn at her request, on a support thread of mine (on a different name). She had not said anything contentious or outing, just excellent advice for me. So, that did worry me, and I hope that she has name changed or moved on for positive reasons, rather than anything else. Not that I want to speculate, I just really hope that there was nothing bad happened.

QuentinSummers · 06/12/2017 22:00

buffy deregged. She's fine though.

TiredOfThisAll · 06/12/2017 22:03

thanks, that is good to know.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 06/12/2017 22:08

The elbow creases are for cradling babies appaz.

I personally hold my over one shoulder so I can drink tea with the other hand but I have short hair so I am obviously a man anyway.

Dammitall elbow creases! You give away my true biological sex identity. Why cruel Gods? Why?!

I'll have one of those Becks alcohol free beers please.

Nyx1 · 06/12/2017 22:36

Quentin, thanks, that's good to know.
