I've scrolled back a few pages and I can't even find the last pub thread.

So I've taken the beer towels off the pumps, tapped a new barrel, polished the glasses, fed the goat and applied brasso to the patriarchy busting canon.

Come and join me - all tastes catered for - beer, gin, wine, cocktails, coffee and a nice cup of tea.

Yep, it is tiring and tiresome. I find it hard to back away from posts which end with "... and that's why I'm not a feminist!".

It galls me so much sometimes that "feminist" has become an insult.

NoLoveofMine · 18/10/2017 23:12

Likewise Assassinated. I try to focus on how fantastic and supportive feminists are and how much incredible work is done by feminists around the world, and how much continues to be achieved.

NoLoveofMine · 18/10/2017 23:13

I completely agree though, it's incredibly frustrating especially if someone's almost proudly proclaiming it.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 18/10/2017 23:17

I agree with yiu both

But then I thought handbag was holding the fort by herself...ish

Shes not all by herself

Im supposed to be weaning myself off mumsnet so i can have one of those real life thingys people keep talking about

ErrolTheDragon · 18/10/2017 23:26

I'm late... got engrossed in some work. Which may have been a better bet than social media at the moment... I neither FB nor twit so rather out of the loop.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 18/10/2017 23:31

I dont twit or face either errol

Is that the real life thingy? I dont like the sound of it if it is

ErrolTheDragon · 18/10/2017 23:35

I'm not sure my work constitutes 'real life'. I write scientific modeling software so it's all simulation , the rest of my team is in california, I'm often using machines in Las Vegas ... its all a bit virtual.ConfusedGrin

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 18/10/2017 23:37

Nope thats not real life errol Sad

I need to find someone who actually knows about real life...where did nolove go

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 18/10/2017 23:38

Sounds impressive though

I sold a coat today

To be fair it sold itself...its a lovely coat

Somerville · 18/10/2017 23:40

NoLove is in school, right? That's not real life. Grin
I think my life is quite real, but I prefer experiecing lots of different lives through reading. Real Life can be over rated.

SerendipityFelix · 19/10/2017 00:50

Browsing on Twitter..... Robert Lindsay confronted Weinstein and says he blocked his Hollywood career as a result

Win for British tv & theatre.

eyebrowseyebrows · 19/10/2017 07:45

Poor thing was injured apparently....some nice people came and took it away from the line and presumably to a vet. I do like living in a country where you legally have to stop but the train manager very obviously thought it was ridiculous that he had to stop rather than just mow the poor thing down Hmm

Anyway...the one lone male voice who responded to my 'me too' posts gave this wonderful example of shit from his jury duty Angry

Sadly I don't work in anything legal (financial services in the City) so not directly in a position to influence Sad

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 19/10/2017 08:06

eyebrow

I cant think of another way apart from jury duty to make it fair

But some jurors shouldn't be allowed near the court

I had one person on a case i did (only did two) very nearly ruined everything when she refused to find him guilty because she didnt like his friends

NoLoveofMine · 19/10/2017 08:14

NoLove is in school, right? That's not real life.

Does this mean homework is also not real therefore doesn't need doing Somerville? Grin

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 19/10/2017 08:15

Homework is deffo not real

Its an urban myth

Fact

Go tell your teacher and see what they say

Tell 'em somerville said

eyebrowseyebrows · 19/10/2017 08:17

I feel like some adaptations could be made though....for example making it mandatory to watch the 'consent/cup of tea' film if you're going to be a juror on a rape trial.

If someone was friendly or even flirting with you but then said they didn't want tea, would it be okay to force them to have tea...

I think jurors need an education about consent and what is/is not relevant in a rape trial.

FlaviaAlbia · 19/10/2017 08:25

Wow. I only know about juries what I've read from John Grisham but isn't there a way you could raise something like that to the judge? It sounds so bizarre.

NoLoveofMine · 19/10/2017 08:28

I agree eyebrows. This shows how damaging and pervasive rape myths are, when you think about how many people believe them, judge women, default to disbelieving women and trusting the man, it sadly follows these attitudes will be prevalent on many juries. Juries are quite a big barrier to convictions in rape cases - not always but as the man you know said, those kind of attitudes are commonplace. It enrages me that women and girls are being judged in that way after all they've already been through to that point to support the prosecution to get it to trial.

I completely agree jurors need more guidance on consent and what constitutes rape. It's so difficult to erode years of rape myths which abound in society though in my opinion. I recalled New Zealand was considering having specialist courts to try such cases which I personally think could be a good idea: www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11688199 At the very least, this shows again why rape culture has to be challenged as these attitudes apart from being so upsetting for those who've been raped have the potential to cause great harm when people who hold them are on juries. I find it enraging how few women and girls ever see attackers brought to any kind of justice (and enraging how many continue to suffer such abhorrent attacks).

NoLoveofMine · 19/10/2017 08:32

I will definitely try that Rufus and shall be interested in the reaction...at the moment I'm on half term which I'm guessing is definitely not real life, although the work given for it seems quite real Shock

eyebrowseyebrows · 19/10/2017 08:37

Oooh NoLove...you're the 17 yo who started a thread the other day?

I can't remember being so articulate when I was 17! I think your posts were spot on.

Annoyingly I'm going to ask the question you probably get all the time...any ideas what sort of work you might want to go into?

badbadhusky · 19/10/2017 08:38

Anyone else a biy Hmm about how much coverage Tom Jones' #metoo story got on R4 Today this morning? From the TJ clip played it boiled down to a gay man asked me for sex and I said no and that was it. So it was sexual harrassment, but of the kind most young women are on the receiving end of regularly. Not on the same level of seriousness as the HW cases at all.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 19/10/2017 08:39

nolove

Yeah come back and report Grin

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 19/10/2017 08:41

bad

Yeah its a bit annoying

People seem to have forgotten that he slapped his wife so is obviously fairly handy

But its constantly on the bbc breakfast show

And yes it does happen to men and young boys

But surely anyone with an ounce of sense could work out that its not on the same scale...please tell me that people have on ounce of sense

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 19/10/2017 08:42

Its the media again

He was asked a direct question and answered it

Its not like he offered the information

And now they are bloody running with it

BertrandRussell · 19/10/2017 08:46

Hmm. The man who gave the world Delilah is not one I particularly want on my side.........
