Brilliant and important article. Kudos to the Guardian for printing

The Women's Equality Party believe that anyone who thinks they're a woman is a woman, and that anyone who doesn't embrace that is a nasty bigot.

Theyve been on here saying that. They also fought for violent trans criminal Tara Hudson to be moved to a women's prison, seven-inch surprise and all.

differenteverytime · 07/10/2017 23:26

I've seen that, Empress. It's why I was surprised to see the retweet from the local branch earlier today. I wish I'd made a note of it. Although I suppose retweets don't necessarily count as endorsements.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/10/2017 23:27

On another similar issue, I contacted The Women's Equality Party on September 25th to ask them for their position regarding proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act. Apart from an email acknowledging receipt of my enquiry I've heard nothing back.

If you look in their policy document it says 'WE also recognise that the binary words "woman" and "man" do not reflect the gender experience of everyone in our country, and support the right of all to define their sex or gender or to reject gendered divisions as they choose.'

Fan-bloody-tastic.Hmm

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 07/10/2017 23:27

Maybe it's a good sign though, different.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/guest_posts/2502963-Guest-post-Sandi-Toksvig-The-time-is-right-for-the-Womens-Equality-Party

This is the thread that initially pissed off a lot of MN feminists. I'm sorry it's a bit long. But you will see why some of us find WEP so annoying!

Sophie Walker appears near the end, announces that transwomen are women & then buggers back off.

differenteverytime · 07/10/2017 23:35

I can't support a party that says that. I find it very disappointing.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 07/10/2017 23:37

Me too.

The thing that confuses me is that then they kept returning for webchats etc & just made a worse impression every time. It wasn't even clear if they were aware of that.

differenteverytime · 07/10/2017 23:39

I'd hope that if they do any sort of research at all they're bound to know by now.

WitchBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 07/10/2017 23:58

Yep, they are a big disappointment, unfortunately. However, discussions such as these on MN make me feel optimistic. We can engage and keep the extremist TRA debate on the agenda.

I feel for the genuinely gender dysphoric and transsexuals who have been effectively silenced by all this madness. They need to know that we are still their friends and allies.

hipsterfun · 08/10/2017 11:31

I want them to know this too. Especially since the TRAs have not only silenced them but in all probability made them more vulnerable than ever.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 08/10/2017 12:29

There's at least one mum of a trans child and and at least one transwoman on here who've talked about how negatively all this is affecting them.

retreatwhispering · 08/10/2017 13:00

Yes.

Another poor child being experimented on by people who should know better.

HornyTortoise · 08/10/2017 14:57

Actually reading a discussion of that on another site at the moment busy

Lancelottie · 08/10/2017 15:25

Someone on that other site has gone straight to the point -- was that you, Horny?

I'm not sure why it is thought children will attempt suicide if not given treatment. I don't recall masses of children reported doing that before this therapy was available because they were gender confused.

HornyTortoise · 08/10/2017 15:51

No thats not me. A fair few women on there are fairly switched on to this issue though, a few of them I speak with in PMs ab out it a lot as usually when a trans thread is started, everyone piles on with accusations of transphobia. Infact our moderation used to include bans and deletions for anything that varied from 'transwomen are women'. Me and another person on there pretty much singlehandedly bombarded admin about that and now we have a more relaxed moderation policy on it. Though some of the ,ods still like to get a bit heavy with the ban hammer for anyone expressing concerns :S

HornyTortoise · 08/10/2017 15:53

Though some of the mods still like to get a bit heavy with the ban hammer for anyone expressing concerns :S

Oddly enough though, it seems to be the male mods who like to ban for any different opinions on the matter. Like it seems to be the male members who see absolutely no issue with any of it and think females are being hysterical and phobic :S

Article in the Daily Mail this morning:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4979498/amp/James-Caspian-attacked-transgender-children-comments.html

"It wasn't so much that there seemed to be increasing numbers of younger people, particularly females, transitioning, but that there were so many of them who seemed to be later reversing the transition.

'Some of those young women were saying they felt they'd made a mistake, but had been influenced by a kind of social movement ramped up by the internet."

WitchBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 14/10/2017 14:29

Thanks for posting this Busy.

CocoaIsGone · 14/10/2017 17:05

That’s a really interesting interview with Caspian busy, thank you for posting.

It has come to something when the Daily Mail prints it, though.

Almost all therapies surely have some kind of evaluation, don’t they? It is accepted practice. So why is transitioning exempt from scrutiny?

Bucketsandspoons · 14/10/2017 19:35

TRAs have not only silenced them but in all probability made them more vulnerable than ever

This. When you know a vulnerable person who has been swept up in the TRA crap and you see the damage it's doing to them with half baked political messages and the immense pressure and threat to do it right in the online communities or be so viciously turned on. When the public backlash comes against all this, it will be these people who are the real victims. And will be still living with gender dysphoria when the nutcases have moved on to a new fad and left this chaos in their wake.
