Brilliant and important article. Kudos to the Guardian for printing

It's such a well balanced article.

Loved the video posted Anlef. Thanks for that.

It's good to see The Guardian publishing an article like that. But I'll be very disappointed if they don't have the backbone to turn on the comments.

(Although if the comments are turned on, most of them will be witless.)

MacaroonMama · 06/10/2017 19:17

Still can't comment DAMNIT!!! Spineless wonders. I will share on FB though.

CocoaIsGone · 06/10/2017 19:49

It is an excellent article. I did not realise the identity as innate came from queer politics, though

PencilsInSpace · 06/10/2017 20:03

Well that's cheered me up Smile

CocoaIsGone it says 'being made to think difficult thoughts ...', not 'different thoughts'.

cuirderussie · 06/10/2017 20:06

Claire is great, been following her on Twitter for ages. Still no comments allowed! Cowards.

Ktown · 06/10/2017 20:09

About time.
I get the feeling the transgender community have been thrown under the bus by transactivists spouting nonsense.

SomethingOnce · 06/10/2017 20:26

the past decade of ridiculous navel-gazing articles based on fringe identity politics has turned a lot of people off reading the Guardian.

Nutshell.

Still no comments. Spineless.

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 06/10/2017 20:38

Julie Bindel re tweeted this, then Jess Philips re tweeted her! Tweeting Julie Bindel is like going Full Terf! Jess has also just tweeted "The gender recognition debate in need of less heat and more light but lecturing by men on our experiences as women can stop."

Crikey, everyone's going terfy! To re balance this Owen Jones is cross about the pro women articles that The New Statesmen publish but hey ho.

CocoaIsGone · 06/10/2017 20:57

Pencils you are right, I misread it. I stand by the point that no-one should be 'made to' think difficult thoughts. This does not mean speakers should be silenced, but that those who wish to listen should be able to, those who do not wish to listen should stay away or be able to leave, and people should be able to decide.

Ktown · 06/10/2017 21:09

it will be losing them cash. I am a paid up member and I don't fancy renewing until they take a more scientific and accurate statistical analysis to data and arguments.
it will be my parting shot and I doubt they will care much though.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/10/2017 22:17

Maybe someone noticed the approval of The Times (esp Janice Turner) recently and thought whoops....

busyboysmum · 06/10/2017 22:39

Let's hope so because at least that would mean that they are monitoring the situation and maybe seeing where the tide of public opinion would turn if the public were indeed made more aware of these matters.

QuentinSummers · 06/10/2017 22:42

I see on Twitter that Juno Dawson is organising a gender debate. But with "red lines" one of which is "transgender women are women". Kinda missing the point there

cuirderussie · 06/10/2017 22:43

Damnde, Julie Bindel recently liked a tweet of mine! preen WineSmile

ErrolTheDragon · 06/10/2017 23:07

I'd prefer a debate on gender to be organised by someone who doesn't stick the TERF label on people TBH

www.independent.co.uk/voices/juno-dawson-glamour-magazine-terf-gender-identification-feminism-germaine-greer-a7403016.html

ErrolTheDragon · 06/10/2017 23:12

And as to 'red lines' ... I don't think they're conducive to good debate but if thats the way its done nowadays then maybe a more reasonable one would be: that the people who have always been defined as women and for whom no other definition is available, well, maybe they should get some say in what the word 'woman' does and doesn't mean?

IndominusRex · 06/10/2017 23:25

Brilliant news about Jess Philips, I'm going to 'like' that.
I've just had a great chat with a twentiesomething friend about this, she's fully gender critical and was shocked as didn't know about the GRA and what it would mean.

NoToast · 06/10/2017 23:34

Good article, I won't take out a subscription or buy the Guardian until they dip more than a toe in the gender critical water but it's a start. Still no comments....

Bovneydazzlers · 07/10/2017 07:51

I'm glad they've finally published something sensical on the issue. It's unbelievable that we're having to treat at an article which is advocating something so common sense (stop the suppression of peaceful debate) like it's something radical and forward thinking.

CocoaIsGone · 07/10/2017 08:44

I know Bovney, it is like having to re-assert that the earth is round and circles the sun.

QuentinSummers · 07/10/2017 09:05

Juno Dawson is very low in my estimation errol.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 07/10/2017 09:32

I've liked and shared Jess Philips's tweet too. Although I see Juno Dawson was straight in there.

Lottapianos · 07/10/2017 09:41

'But with "red lines" one of which is "transgender women are women'

Oh FFS. Just what sort of debate is that going to be?! Typical stuff from Dawson

Really glad to see that Jess Phillips is on side
