Has anyone seen this news story today? The irony that a mtt transgender goes off on one about race when the exact same thing can be said about men's privilege and society standing on the backs of women...
Sorry, just made me a bit Hmm

Do you not think that PoC vote Conservative or Republican, or are right wing?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/09/2017 12:56

And it was exploited women who produced those clothes

It was. And they are and were exploited and oppressed by men in their own societies and with the same skin colour too.

quencher · 03/09/2017 13:09

@YetAnotherSpartacus no one disagreed with women being mostly exploited. As whole, people of colour are exploited. That is not ignoring the sexism and child exploitation from within it.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/09/2017 13:12

Actually, there has been little discussion of women's exploitation on this thread.

Elendon · 03/09/2017 13:13

And they are and were exploited and oppressed by men in their own societies and with the same skin colour too.

This!

Micaela64 · 03/09/2017 13:42

Watching her on Channel 4 news I thought it amazing that this high-earning mixed-race, trans-gender woman achieved such considerable success in an apparently systemically-racist culture, I can think of a dozen African nations off the top of my head where she'd be beaten, persecuted and even imprisoned for being who she is, but she decides to take issue with a society which embraced her, allowed her to be herself and rise to enormous success instead.

But regardless, she IS the face of young liberals - Ungrateful, intolerant, entitled, angry, incapable of self reflection on one's own actions and more than a little stupid.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 03/09/2017 13:54

People are still affected mentally here too. I have a living family member who went to dig bodies out of Aberfan, you think we just forget?

Aberfan is completely irrelevant to the issue being discussed here.

orlantina · 03/09/2017 14:00

That does sound like you think she should be quiet about racism in the USA because people like her are treated far worse in other parts of the world?

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 03/09/2017 14:03

Why is it lass? It demonstrates that the colonising country still views itself above the others, in living memory

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 03/09/2017 14:03

Would it be relevant if my example was Bhopal?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 03/09/2017 14:09

Wales is not a colony.

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 03/09/2017 14:12

Neither was India in 1984

quencher · 03/09/2017 14:14

What? You mean the very right they fought for? Your comment is the very reason they should be shouting at the rooftop. Seeing that I have better life than what I could have ever dreamed of, or even a some people I guess, I should shut up about race because it would not be my place to do so.

This is why I hate it when people use the word tolerance when it comes to things like race. The whole country uses it. It does not mean people accept you for who you are but are able to tolerate you. It's away to keep the system going without becoming chaotic and full of hatred. However, it does not remove the undercurrent of how people feel underneath.
The way it's constantly used is the main reason why the debate is important.

And in that channel 4 interview, the way the news reporter asked her about the woman who died is the same as whenever a person who does not want to be called a racist will mention any black Person they have ever come intact with.

Of cause, she died protesting against racism. It does not mean they didn't benefit from racism. And if they were still alive, it does not mean they would stop benefiting. If people like her do not understand what munroe was talking about, what hope is there for the people who feel hard done by for being called out for being part of the system. @Micaela64 I guess we should be grateful and shut.

If " Teresa May was to speak up for women suffering or being mistreated. It would truly be an injustice for her todo so"
She is pm ffs. Do you see the logic? I guess if you understood logic you would not post such a thing.

quencher · 03/09/2017 14:18

Wales is not a colony. The welsh do have a point. @LassWiTheDelicateAir but I can see how it can be an off topic.
From an outsider looking at how the Welsh are treated you can see that it's based on race (I don't know if it would be called race or not but not far off)

Elendon · 03/09/2017 14:24

I can think of a dozen African nations off the top of my head where she'd be beaten, persecuted and even imprisoned for being who she is, but she decides to take issue with a society which embraced her, allowed her to be herself and rise to enormous success instead.

Good grief. Correction rapes for Lesbians. Homosexuality outlawed. Gay rights totally dismissed. And not only in African countries.

There are middle eastern countries where Bergdorf would be totally accepted because trans is allowed. It's oppressive because being gay is illegal.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-25927595

The link above outlines where it is illegal to be gay.

VestalVirgin · 03/09/2017 14:26

Is Munroe not from one of these countries that is wealthy on the backs of others then? I thought Munroe was British?

Munroe is also male, and, it appears, pretty wealthy.

Coming from a complete and utter hypocrite doesn't render a statement untrue, but it does influence the way it is seen by the public, whether we think it should or not.

And if you are employed by a company that is owned by white people and produces products for white people, for PR reasons, then you don't say that "all white people are racist".

I mean, if I got a job as the mascot of a men's football team, I'd not walk around saying "All men are misogynist and profit from patriarchy." It is true, but I still wouldn't say it and expect that the football team continue to employ me.

It is just a matter of common sense.

Elendon · 03/09/2017 14:28

And on the allowing her to be herself

I watched a documentary on Witney Houston last night. Houston was not allowed to be her true bi sexual self within her own community. Houston's mother was asked if she would be happy if she came out as gay/lesbian. Her mother said no.

Elendon · 03/09/2017 14:32

And in those countries where trans is accepted but not being gay, you have forced trans, which is oppressive and a violation of human rights.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 03/09/2017 14:46

From an outsider looking at how the Welsh are treated you can see that it's based on race (I don't know if it would be called race or not but not far off)

I'm not Welsh but there is a certain Scottish mentality which punts this type of victimhood it is nonsense.

Neither was India in 1984 I am aware of that- had you referred to Bhopal in the first instance I would have made the same reply.

Elendon · 03/09/2017 14:48

So what do you think of the Scots colonisation of Northern Ireland then Lass

Elendon · 03/09/2017 15:10

This is a prime example of white male privilege in the extreme I know and this is a violent man. However would Bergdorf support her fellow transwomen in this sort of behaviour? Or are they women and violent ones at that?

IrritatedUser1960 · 03/09/2017 15:14

There is a difference about talking about rascism and talking absolute bollocks.
Plenty of people are able to make reasoned and very plausible comments on it without resorting to insults and sweeping generalisms.

IrritatedUser1960 · 03/09/2017 15:22

Come off in justanothernameagain, I've been seriously oppressed by men my ENTIRE life, nonetheless I don't go about declaring publicly all men are sexist pigs even though I've decided never to live with another man again for the rest of my life. I I don't know that all men are sexist pigs and I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt as any rational adult would despite the fact that women have been utterly oppressed by men since time began.
My mum is married to a black man and has two mixed race children, are you suggesting she is rascist and thinks her children are inferior to her?

justanothernameagain · 03/09/2017 15:27

IrritatedUser1960 you do realise you are in the same post talking about men as a class then saying "not all white people"?

Ereshkigal · 03/09/2017 15:28

No? Then can't you see how disengenious it is to not use this as an opportunity to look at the serious issues that person raisies, and instead turn it into a trans debate?

The OP clearly felt the trans situation was relevant and this thread is in Feminism Chat. Do feel free to start a new thread if you don't like this one.
