White women- it's all your fault

I will preface this by saying that I am indeed a white woman. And I realise this affords me a lot of privilege.
Among a lot of the rhetoric around the Events unfolding in the US (mostly Charlottesville), I've seen a number of open letters to white women about our complicity in the neo-nazi and white supremacist movement in the US and elsewhere. Clearly those women marching last week on the nazi side were white, but there was a lot of suggestion that those white women not marching but associated with men marching (wives girlfriends etc) were just as culpable as the men wielding torches and assault rifles. I guess I would like some help understanding how this is a white woman issue rather than the white men being responsible for their own actions? I get that one of those pieces said those men are going home to pie cooked by their doting wives but I just feel as though a man who holds those views and has no issue with demonstrating them publically is unlikely to be a caring loving husband?
I am fully prepared to listen to all view points and I totally understand that the people on these marches are white, but they're mostly men, right? Sonhow is this women's fault?

We shall have to agree to disagree, we have different life experiences

AfunaMbatata · 21/08/2017 22:39

Are you saying it is the fault of white women that white supremacy exists mucho?

AfunaMbatata · 21/08/2017 22:39

I'm just confused and want to be clear of your views .

I think it's fair enough for WOC to want some solidarity from white women. Feminism has often focused on the needs and issues facing white women as white women were seen as "default". A lot of the gains made for predominantly whites women in the 20th century in terms of access to education and the workplace was facilitated, in the US, by the use of black, female domestic labour. Few in America ever felt that black women were too delicate or feminine for a day's work.
Coercive relationships and domestic violence are big feminist issues and it is possible that some of these women may be victims. But black American women are trying to tell us that they have other issues and fears that they would like us to see and understand. They fear for their sons, that they may be killed, on flimsy grounds by people in authority who will not be held to account. They fear that white supremacists are becoming powerful and influential, that these groups are becoming emboldened and increasingly dangerous. They fear that lots of white people might be tempted to minimise or ignore this or might simply not see how alarming what is happening is. Yes, that means white men and women but I am assuming that they are reaching out to women because of the shared bond of sisterhood. I don't feel that they are trying to hold me to a higher standard than white men, I see it as black women asking us to help them with the issues that matter to them right now, in any way we can, if it happens to be within our power. WOC have been active and important in the feminist movement and have not had an equal share of its benefits.

I always find it interesting when women would rather blame other women than hold men accountable for their own actions. It's like asking women to do wifework for the world.

muchomo · 21/08/2017 22:45

Afuna, really?

SylviaPoe · 21/08/2017 22:46

'Instead, she says that in an ethnostate, white households would vote as units. She doesn’t apologize for being voluble but confesses to having overactive “guy brain” — the assertive and argumentative part of her. Stewart said something similar in our interview: “Intellectually, I tend to like to hang out with the boys.”'

This is from the Harper's article that Ditum mentioned. It's that classic thing of certain women being very misogynistic because they think that somehow they're not like other women. It happens over and over again.

AfunaMbatata · 21/08/2017 22:46

Yeah. I'm tired and not drunk . Brain don't work well in such conditions.

muchomo · 21/08/2017 22:46

DumbledoresAprentice Thank you, lovely post Flowers

muchomo · 21/08/2017 22:46

Afuna then I can't help you, sorry

AfunaMbatata · 21/08/2017 22:48

Oh well! Always thought it best to ask for clarity if you don't understand something. Nvm Sad

muchomo · 21/08/2017 22:48

I'm all for solidarity, but the reality is not all women want solidarity and view wonenof colour as less than, and benefit for systemic racism whether they created it or not.

muchomo · 21/08/2017 22:48

Afuna you could literally read the thread from the beginning. Good place to start

muchomo · 21/08/2017 22:50

The fact that your question was this

Are you saying it is the fault of white women that white supremacy exists mucho? leads me to think you already have your view

AfunaMbatata · 21/08/2017 22:51

Why so rude? All I wanted was clarity. I have problems gathering info from written texts so I tend to ask people if they said what I think they did before I jump in with a comment.Confused

AfunaMbatata · 21/08/2017 22:52

I'd rather ask and be made a fool of like you are trying to do than get completely the wrong end of the stick.

muchomo · 21/08/2017 22:52

Afuna, sorry I can't help you. I appreciate the question though. Given the wording of your question I'd like to redirect you to my previous posts that is all Smile

DidyouseeEthel · 21/08/2017 22:53

You do seem to really dislike white women muchomo

AfunaMbatata · 21/08/2017 22:53

Is that the wrong thing to do? Pleas can someone tell me because I really am not sure and not it's just fucking up more.

Gonegonegone · 21/08/2017 22:53

You said what about some of these women falsely reporting sexual assaults leading to black men sending years in prison

While there are some miscarriages of justice, and I agree poc suffer from this more than white, by the time it gets through court and convicted it's rare that a woman is lying. Claiming women lying is a normal thing, regardless of race, is extremely harmful rhetoric.

You also blamed the mother's of these men. (Because God forbid a father has a responsibility to raise his child). Despite upbringing men are still responsible for male violence. We don't go around jailing mother's if violent men (and many mothers are the gifts of violent men, as is one in the recent attacks-white disabled woman beaten by her neo Nazi son then blamed for his violence because she didn't do enough)

muchomo · 21/08/2017 22:54

Do I Hmm, oh dear me. Now I'm a racist

muchomo · 21/08/2017 22:55

Gone, please just copy my posts, instead of rewording them what you make of it is up to Smile
