Is it bad that I'm slightly happy about this?

(Obviously, I'm not happy about people losing their jobs - except maybe Riley)

Loving, absolutely loving flimmerybollocks.

I do have to applaud them for being honest and stating that they know more about a dinosaur film than about feminism.

Snort.

Datun · 07/05/2017 09:57

'Sex positive' really pisses me off. It's all about how to perfect your blowjob in order to please your man. Because you have to have a positive attitude. Don't want it up the bum? That's a little negative.

Apparently it's not about doing things you don't want to do. But it's about examining why you don't want to do them, nonetheless.

Saying you don't want to swing off a chandelier in a gimp mask is fine, but it's a little vanilla, amirite?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 07/05/2017 10:13

Datun, probably best not to say you don't want it, because you might end up 'shaming' people who do and that's literal violence.

glenthebattleostrich · 07/05/2017 10:14

Yes it was the bios I read. I used to work as a document editor for a multinational company putting their policy documents into plain English and writing bio's for the directors. The first re is if you have to use a dictionary to understand what is being said you've failed at you job.

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 07/05/2017 10:15

" Saying you don't want to swing off a chandelier in a gimp mask is fine, but it's a little vanilla, amirite?"

Brilliant, Datun. I'm another one who hates, hates, hates the phrase "sex positive". I love sex. I hate its commodification, the levels of exploitation and misogyny (in-your-face male misogyny and internalised female misogyny) which our culture bolts on to it. "Sex positive" feminism [sic] seems to be all about embracing the exploitative, violent and misogynistic aspects of the way we culturally frame sex and learning to love the chains of your own oppression. Fuck that for a game of soldiers.

TheChampagneGalop · 07/05/2017 10:18

Yes "sex positive" generally means pro sex industry, and that anything that makes someone (usually a man) horny is OK.

K is a Canadian, non-binary, genderqueer, peoplequeer, mentally ill, critical feminist robot.

I looked up peoplequeer but didn't find anything...

That reminds me of an ex-boyfriend from years ago. He liked to play cards for points. The winner could translate their points into minutes. He excitedly explained that minutes could be spent in getting person to do what ever you wanted them to do.

He started accumulating points like mad, his eyes were glinting, his breathing shortened, he wet his lips.

Then I started to come back with a vengeance, my points started to ratchet up. I was into the final straight. He was still grinning, speculating on exactly how I would 'use' him.

I won. I had 20 minutes. As he unbuckled his belt and asked pantingly what he should do I handed him a pair of marigolds and told him to do the washing up.

ISaySteadyOn · 07/05/2017 10:31

Datun Grin. Brilliant!

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 07/05/2017 10:32

DJBaggySmalls · 07/05/2017 11:04

Oh yes, its all Tres amusing. What you all miss is, if EF go under, what will happen to their course 'Cure Your Toxic whiteness'?

And who will publish articles like ''What Gender Means to Me As a Married Man Who Likes to Wear Women’s Clothing''?
everydayfeminism.com/2016/10/married-man-wear-womens-clothing/

Datun · 07/05/2017 11:43

And you mustn't forget how in an effort to de-stigmatise periods you don't celebrate them either.

Probably best not to talk about them at all, really. Unless you are prepared to jump through hoops and stop talking about women, anything that applies to them, any mention of biology, and any reason why they might be considered second-class.

And therefore let's just stop fighting all together. I think that's far more inclusive and easier all round. Tea anyone? Oh wait, there's no petty cash...

everydayfeminism.com/2016/01/inclusive-period-positivity/

If we need to speak about those who menstruate, instead of referring to “women and girls,” we can simply refer to “people” or “people who menstruate.

This idea also implies that trans women who don’t menstruate aren’t “real” women, which is really transmisogynistic.

Anlaf · 07/05/2017 12:12

Vale, EF.

There have been many fine contributions under #SaveEF on twitter:

#SaveEF and we will help you remove unclean language from your vocabulary such as; Female, Lesbian, Vagina, Mother, Biology, Science

save feminism, and let Everyday Misogyny burn to the ground #saveEF

Without EF how are women going to know what they're supposed to be self flagellating themselves over this week? #SaveEF

....And many, many more. twitter.com/hashtag/SaveEF

BenLinusatemyhomework · 07/05/2017 12:16

This is what happens when your staff spend too much time navel gazing , sitting around brainstorming for new flimmerybollocks (I'm totally stealing this) phrases to describe how utterly speshul and you-nique they are instead of doing some actual journalism.

Buh-bye Everyday Sexism.

paddypants13 · 07/05/2017 13:40

GrinGrinGrinGrin Handed him a pair of Marigolds! Datun, I think I love you. I am looking forward to the nutters on the staff trying to get jobs in the real world.

nauticant · 07/05/2017 19:19

There is much to enjoy on twitter.com/hashtag/SaveEF. It led me to this droll image:

Good news. Grin

Datun · 08/05/2017 01:30

Yeah, this may have undermined EF's credibility. Just a smidge.

OlennasWimple · 08/05/2017 02:16

Beyond parody, Datun

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/05/2017 02:39

They need 60K to get them through unexpected loss of earnings JUST for May. That's what they are saying. Surely that means that their expenses are at least double that; say 120K, 80% of which they say is 'staff, benefits and posts'. Let's be generous and say that they are paying 60K a month in staff costs. 60K over a year is >700K.

Yikes! For that drivel. I think I see what is wrong with their business model.

I'm tempted to offer them $60k just to go away - am sure a quick crowdfunder would come up with the cash...

PhoenixJasmine · 08/05/2017 05:42

"Unexpected loss of earnings" - the point has been made many times, but I really do wonder who has been funding them - clearly someone has pulled the plug. Thank fuck.

Gallavich · 08/05/2017 05:53

Oh Caryl if only that's what sex positive meant.

Terfing · 08/05/2017 06:44

Well, we all know that maths are economics are boys' subjects, so it's not surprising that these ladies couldn't get their pretty little noggins around the sums!
