Stuff that i often see on fb is beyond disturbing.

People are transing toddlers because they put teatowels on their heads...

I sort of understand confused teenagers with MH issues under the influence of youtube, but ADULTS?

Or is this a new trend when you have a child not of the sex you preferred?

Is it a sort of mass hysteria? A kind of collective mental illness?

Parents are piggy-backing a delusional idea (children can be born in the wrong body, gender is innate) into society's new framework of values that protects oppressed groups like gay people. No criticism from me, I did it too for a long time. Parents are encouraged from all sides to accept the idea as truth.

It felt subversive and wrong for a time, tentatively trying out the thought that perhaps the emperor had no clothes. The whole process was like a deconversion, with relief and incredulity afterwards.

It's quite remarkable how changing biological sex, something provably impossible, is accepted as truth. Would love to know what biology teachers think when this is taught as fact in schools. Do they speak out? Are they even allowed to speak out?

I do think that the piggy-backing is a kind of mass delusion or hysteria, is what was trying to say.

Yes if there is any correlation between the profile of parents and the transing of children surely that has to give the lie to almost every currently accepted aspect of the cause?

Of course if you are doing a survey, you're going to get a bias purely on the basis of who answers it. And why.

Frankly, I don't think there is any one cause. There can't be. Because you can ask women, men, detransitioners, and they all have a different story.

About a decade ago there was this craze of indigo/crystal/some-sort-of-magical-aura children -- those who are geniuses and future leaders.
Basically there was a set of characteristics where anybody could find at least a dozen things to describe themselves. E.g. Are you a daydreamer? Do you dislike authority figures? Are you creative?
Of course. That makes me/my child a genius and a future leader Hmm

I know social media has a large part to play, but I hadn't thought of that aspect.

When people are scattered, individuals can stand out. When they go online and they meet like-minded people, it can feel like everyone is like you and you're no longer different.

So finding your tribe can be both affirming and yet at the same time erasing your individuality.

So you have to invent another way to be different and stand out. It can't be a coincidence that it is the youth who are turning to this ideology in droves. And inventing more and more labels.

I'm tempted to go over to Reddit or tumblr and talk about how I loved doing and playing with "boy" things as a child and how I still am not particularly feminine. Throw in my mental health issues and I wonder what they'll come up with.

It is a bit like the witch hunts.
There were no real witches (and there are no humans who really change sex)
There were some few people who genuinely believed they could do magic (and there are some few people who genuinely suffer from dysphoria about their bodies)
But mostly, it was just mass insanity, and most of the victims were the same ordinary people as those who got away, just a bit "weird" and therefore suspicious in ways nothing at all to do with witchcraft. (Some of the transed children are homosexual, some are just gender non conforming, some are autistic, etc.)

That's a really good analogy.

Do it. It's an experiment.

VestalVirgin · 29/04/2017 13:09

Thanks, stickle.

The other thing I have it seen compared to was the lobotomy craze. (On the 4th wave site, there's a really good article on the parallels, especially within the medical system)

It's enforcing the most rigid societal invented stereotypes on young children and forcing a delusion on them based on that. It's psychological child abuse and I think it has the potential to be far more damaging than all but the worst physical abuse tbh because these parents are attacking their children's very identity based on liking a certain toy or colour.

I know lots of little boys who love to play with 'girl' things and vice versa. It only becomes an issue when parents/media/other kids tell them they have to fit in a box, that they can't like a certain toy/TV show/colour/item of clothing unless they're the opposite gender. So if they insist that they still like what they like, they're trans...

I think in twenty or thirty years there will be a lot of very angry adults who will be lobbying for protection of children against this form of abuse.
