Just that really!

OP posts:
Bambambini · 02/05/2017 09:59

I had a fairly amicable discussion with a TW on twitter recently. I mentioned Katelyn Burns as a Transactivist with a 7000plus following who i said a actually found creepy and unsettling- turns out this other TW was an avid follower and admirerer who couldn't understand why i found KBs creepy and problematic.

And this is the point Burns had to make about this statement.

For God sake. They really are like children who think if they cover their eyes you can't see them.

GuardianLions · 02/05/2017 10:11

more gems such as this recent one.

AAAAAHHhhhhhhhhhhh!

Couldn't read past the first paragraph. What a seedy autogynophile pervert fantasist. Made my flesh crawl. I hope he isn't genuinely a parent. Yuk.

JigglyTuff · 02/05/2017 10:22

Guardian - I think Katelin is a parent. They say they have young daughters and have recently divorced. I wonder what his ex-wife thinks, poor woman :(

Bambambini · 02/05/2017 10:26

Katelyn is a mom now of course. The narcissism is glaring - how the other TW couldn't see what i saw and felt about Burns is interesting. They were a big fan.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/05/2017 10:33

I spoke to a work colleague the other day whose nephew is thinking of transitioning

The thing that honestly frightens me about his case (he is a young adult) is that he is on various forums including gaming ones and has a great number of young trans women friends all of whom have had the full upstairs and downstairs done and are telling him what a great idea it is

My colleague doesnt seem to think there is anything untoward

Maybe its because i have younger children and keep getting told by the media and school that not everyone is who they pretends to be online that i am very suspicious

BigDeskBob · 02/05/2017 10:44

Why do MTT have a tendency to compare themselves with 12 year old girls? Surely a parent would release that is inappropriate.

Also, why was this published on a website aimed at new mothers? Its not relatable to anyone who is pregnant or has a small child. Its just taking up space.

ItsCakeTime · 02/05/2017 11:32

@venusinscorpio & @OlennasWimple, thanks for the flowers, I stepped away from the net over the weekend.

I'm fine, sadly it wasn't the worst, 'just' breast and crotch grabbing. . . .

I'm still angry, more that my nephew had to witness it, we've spent 2 years trying to convince him that most men are like his uncle/my brother/my Dad, not like his abusive arsehole of a father. And he's not destined to grow up like him.

He's a young teen, it's really upset him, he's angry that he froze when it happened despite me telling him it's a normal response.

We've been trying to get him some counseling, it was to do with his 'father' but he's reacted so strongly I'm starting to wonder/worry

OlennasWimple · 02/05/2017 11:44

So sorry, ItsCake Sad

GuardianLions · 02/05/2017 11:46

Flowers itscake

From birth, trans people are coerced, sometimes violently, into living within society’s expectations based on the shape of the flesh between their legs

I am literally sick of these stupid selfish people. That is one of the most offensive of the many ignorant comments I've read from them.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/05/2017 13:04

From birth, women are coerced, sometimes violently, into living within society’s expectations based on the shape of the flesh between their legs

Fixed that.

Poppyred85 · 02/05/2017 13:38

Like a number of other posters my thoughts about transgenderism, and transwomen in particular has changed. All the way through reading that Katelyn Burns piece I kept thinking how many of the AGP boxes they tick. I also find them comparing their dress sense post transition to the way in which some young women explore their identity quite disturbing. This is not about the evolution of a woman's self image through from childhood to adulthood but seeing what you think "being a woman" is about and what you can get away with in public. The idea that being less likely to pass increased the risk of violence also annoyed me.

Datun · 02/05/2017 13:39

Rufus

It's interesting you should mention gaming. Someone was talking about it on another forum. They were wondering whether this current generation's obsession with online gaming has anything to do with identity.

The theory being that you pick an identity when you game, you can switch at will, you can 'live' as that person and be treated as that person for the duration.

Has it fed into a longing to become your own avatar?

The bit that resonates with me is the assumption that an identity can be assumed and changed. Which, whilst it might be enjoyable, requires everyone else to buy into it.

And if that perception and acceptance is reinforced, it becomes a parallel life that you prefer to your own.

I don't think it's any coincidence that a lot of trans-people are gamers.

AlwaysCcakeTime · 02/05/2017 13:45

Nice one @YetAnotherSpartacus

venusinscorpio · 02/05/2017 13:49

Also, why was this published on a website aimed at new mothers? Its not relatable to anyone who is pregnant or has a small child. Its just taking up space.

It's exemplary of the total colonisation of female spaces they're pushing. Katelyn is not a mother. They are a father and a fetishist.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 02/05/2017 14:40

Datun, I'm sure you're right. Seeing yourself as your own avatar makes perfect sense - if you're not self-aware enough to know the difference between reality and role play. The cosplay events where people dress up as fantasy figures aren't much different to the transgender mom playing dress up.

sticklebrix · 08/05/2017 08:03

There's an interview with Jenner in the Guardian today:

www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/may/08/caitlyn-jenner-bruce-transitioning-kardashians-reality-tv-star

Datun · 08/05/2017 10:27

God, that article. Even Jenner admits to male privilege and sometimes slips up and misgenders themself.

But the absolute gall to suggest that women simply aren't trying hard enough to empower themselves. Because Jenner has seen it from 'both sides'. And sees no reason why women can't just act like men and achieve equality. Hey presto!

How you can say in one breath that you have male socialisation and then explicitly employ it to not only put women down, but put them down about their socialisation!!!!

I don't mean to be funny when I say this but honestly, some men seem to have a significant proportion of their brain missing.

Terfing · 08/05/2017 13:29

As usual, comments closed!

Although, the usual Guardian plea for money is not there! I wonder why?

Terfing · 08/05/2017 13:34

"Since then, there has been no stopping her. She has become assertive on the issue of women’s rights, realising that, “in so many cases, women underestimate their power. They’ve been brainwashed growing up, being the girl, they’re supposed to be in the background and all that stuff. I don’t see that. I didn’t come to womanhood that way, by sitting in the back. OK?” As a result, she says, “I like to encourage women to be more powerful and stand up for yourself.”"

Terfing · 08/05/2017 13:36

"It’s impossible to tell if Jenner does more harm than good, but if we are all, at this point, permitted to be the sole determinants of our own identities, then Jenner has the right to define herself precisely as she pleases. “It was hard giving old Bruce up, in a lot of ways,” she says. “He still lives inside me. I still do a lot of the things old Bruce used to do. I still fly airplanes and go race cars once in a while. I can have the best of both worlds.” She bestows on me her most dazzling smile. “I can live my life authentically, and still do all the fun stuff!”"

GuardianLions · 08/05/2017 13:53

Wow in that article Jenner says he thought “Am I just a cross-dresser? Is cross-dressing a sexual stimulation to me, so that I’m having sex with myself? Am I gay, is that what it is?” But none of these solutions felt right.

Maybe if AGP was more widely known, Jenner might have had the solution....

Datun · 08/05/2017 18:02

GuardianLions

I think he just constantly gives stuff away. No-one would even consider asking themselves if they were turned on by women's clothes unless they were.

And the reason that solution didn't feel right to him is because it garners no admiration, no plaudits, and no money.

AssassinatedBeauty · 08/05/2017 18:20

"I can have the best of both worlds" If only Jenner was able to realise that there is only one world. We all live in it, and what sex you are shouldn't determine what you can or are allowed to do.

I find Jenner's comments about the socialisation of girls to be highly offensive and stupid.
