Let's put a list of salient points together about what the issues are with the trans agenda. It will be a useful resource.

Yep sounds good. The links going missing was probably my fault as I was on there at the weekend, sorry.

BMacklin · 08/05/2017 21:34

Oh and that bit about the disclaimer is good too.

Hrumphing · 08/05/2017 23:20

In terms of pictures:
The picture that helped convince a couple of people I know was some of the neuroimaging around brain plasticity and the effect environment has on brain development. Some people are so convinced there is some innate difference between male and female brains they need something very obvious to show the effect of social environment. They are very sad upsetting pictures and I was haunted by them for some time after I first saw them -
they are of a romanian orphan contrasted with normal 3 year old neuroimaging. You might feel its too tangential to the topic also. However after arguing with someone about the nuances that had been found between male and female brains and whether the causes were nature or nuture the dramatic image of exactly what 'nurture' (or more accurately the lack of nurture) convinced them.
goo.gl/images/m7iNHU is one example and goo.gl/images/3NuZQS is another.

Hrumphing · 08/05/2017 23:28

There are some less distressing and simple images about mice sensory cortex which might be more straightforward but I couldn't seem to find them very easily tonight.

Hrumphing · 08/05/2017 23:49

I have some interest in the suicide stats (Im a psychiatrist) which I will try to think about a bit more if I can find the time. For example, the main study is self reported and 'attempts' which is a poor way to look at the risk of suicide in a population. It obviously is a cause for concern and has some links with death by suicide but not in a straightforward way. So some populations have a very high risk of deliberate self harm without having a correspondingly very high risk of death by suicide. To my knowledge there have been no good studies about suicide rate in trans populations. I suspect suicide rate is raised somewhat but the highest risk populations in other conditions dont have a risk anywhere near as high as 40% as Ive seen some transactivists misquote from that paper. The glamourisation of suicide from some transactivists always strikes me as much more of a threat to trans safety than the so called 'violence' of feminists.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 09/05/2017 01:05

Very sorry, I've read all of a lot of these threads but not all of this one.

But I've just had a boil it all down, light bulb moment.

Transwomen should be trying to expand what it means to be a man.

Not reduce what it means to be a woman.

Sincere apologies if this has already been said.

I do realise it's very simplistic.

Actually, not sure why I started with sorry.

BMacklin · 09/05/2017 02:21

bewitched I think that's great. I've seen others say similar but not so succinctly. Others may have of course but I personally haven't.

PencilsInSpace · 09/05/2017 19:33

BMacklin ignore me, we already have the list of pages in the side bar, we don't need to duplicate them on the home page Blush

Hrumphing that's very interesting and useful - both the brains and the stuff about suicide. We don't yet have a page about the lack of science behind gender identity and we definitely should have one.

Bewitched, it's not simplistic it's simple and straightforward! Beautifully put.

Thelilywhite · 10/05/2017 14:34

pencils looks like a good format. I agree front page should be succinct .However as you pointed out this is going to be a task and a half! The more I get in to it the more stuff I find and want to post! Re your lack lack of science point- I have posted a link on the sex v gender page about how neuroscience ' sex /gender differences' studies results are misrepresented in the media. Do people think link is relevant? I will keep looking for more. I'm going to have a look in my Cordelia Fine book to see if there re any studies she mentions we might be able to get abstracts of.

venusinscorpio · 10/05/2017 17:30

I've got some good science stuff but am on holiday abroad with no wifi. Will try to post them at the weekend.

Late to his thread and haven't read it all (yet). But I would like something to be done to protect LGB teens. Myou daughter is 16 and lesbian. She has short hair, a small chest, wears boxers and 'boys' clothes, wears 'boys' deoderant, plays sports and hates typically 'feminine things'. She's always asked if she's trans, or if she's confused. She's been bullied a few times, once resulting in a black eye and busted lip. Her school enforces 'no transphobia' but turns a blind eye to homophobia and biphobia. This appears to be happening a lot, and she's being told that LGB people have achieved enough rights already and trans people are the ones who need help.

I'm saying this as someone who also has a transsexual child (17) who struggled massively with sex dysphoria since a young age, and only transitioned as a last option when they were in a very dark place. DC hates the trans agenda and just wants to live a happy, peaceful life. Trans Activists take the piss. They hurt LGB people and genuine trans people and only care about themselves.

KnittedBlanketHoles · 26/05/2017 13:12

Thanks for this thread. It's given me a new direction and focus. I'd forgotten how persuasive the sports argument could be, but will now try to include it more when I'm explaining why I'm so concerned with this issue.

KnittedBlanketHoles · 26/05/2017 13:14

Ah Things I'm so sorry to hear that. Lesbians are really getting the shit end of the stick in this war.

KnittedBlanketHoles · 26/05/2017 14:54

Have you seen anything about GIRES claiming that transing is a good 'cure' for autism? I think evidence of that could make people suspicious of their agenda. Do if you don't have info and think it would be useful, I'll look into that? I don't have any links yet as I just read someone referencing it yesterday, not any primary sources, but it's disturbing if true...

YetAnotherSpartacus · 29/05/2017 11:21

I just found this

www.huffingtonpost.com/j-nelson-aviance/i-am-not-cisgendered_b_5598113.html

It's a very good rebuttal of the concept 'cis' from a male POV, although he lapses into 'poah me I don't really have male privilege' at the end (I just kept mentally rewriting it as it would relate to women).

Bumping this thread to add a link about twin studies that show no one is born trapped in the body of the wrong sex.

Bumping. Some great links from Fair Play for Women.

Jesus H Christ!

I am BEYOND thrilled to discover that the first ever thread I click on in the feminist section is this one! I did not expect this at all. After being kicked around various sections of the internet for my evil TERF-y ways I find my kind of feminism on mumsnet. I don't know why it never occured to me to come here before.

I have warm squidy feelings for you all right now

Missymoo100 · 01/08/2017 21:10

I came across this forum a week or so ago and have to say it's been a real eye opener, I'm absolutely shocked by what's going on.
I don't understand the logic behind how it can be said that women can have a vagina or a penis, it's how you identify that determines sex that matters, yet profess not to subscribe to gender stereotypes- if this is the case then what do people who say they identify with being female but are anatomically male actually saying? It makes no sense and is completely illogical.
I'm so annoyed that my rights as a woman can be eroded like this. I didn't realise trans women were already competing against biological women in sport but it's happening- fallen fox in MMA for example, it's completely unfair to pitch a trans women against a biological woman in this way. The argument against this was she has lower testosterone than a man, but fails to
mention that this is still higher than a woman.
Most upsetting is of all is young children being labelled and pigeon holed into being trans and harmed by the way of puberty blocking drugs and unnecessary surgery. I've heard about 80pecent of people who feel they are in the wrong body as children are happy the way they are as adults. They are not being given the chance to progress through puberty to see if this is the case.
I wonder what's behind this agenda
I just wanted to share my support.

Datun · 01/08/2017 23:33

Welcome hoosie and Missymoo100

Glad to have you onboard.
