The BBC's political equivalent of Jeremy Kyle is hosting "has the time come to decriminalise sex work" tomorrow morning.

I'm going to be in the audience; if anyone wants to support the Nordic model voice via twitter please do!

The Invisible Men is good at highlighting how punters view women. What they all have in common is they believe women are a commodity and they all have a huge sense of entitlement - somewhat like GEA is demonstrating.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/04/2017 20:32

Someone from the English Collective of Prostitutes? I hope they wipe the floor with you. Nothing worse than women dictating to other women on how they should live their lives and restricting their choice

Twattish comment number one and they just havent stopped

GenderEqualityAdvocate · 02/04/2017 20:33

I am not advocating legalisation. I am very much against further criminalisation. The problem lies with men's attitudes but outlawing the purchase of sex will not help to alter that.

How do you tackle the problem of the disparity between male and female libido? Are you going to advocate dietary supplements to control men?

It will make for far less harmonious society. Sex pest central.

scallopsrgreat · 02/04/2017 20:34

If people disagree with prostitution do they also fight back against the cuts that directly impact on some of the most vulnerable women who may have to go into sex work to survive?

Yes. HTH.

GuardianLions · 02/04/2017 20:36

In my experience, if you mention faked orgasms to men they react in 2 ways:

  1. Looking genuinely perturbed they say "I hope they haven't done that with me". These are most often men who have pretty deep relationships with women that are partnerships. Or
  2. Looking pretty confident and slightly sleezy like they are recalling they say "No, I'd definitely know". These are usually men who have short flings and one night stands and appear to over-estimate their own allure.

In my personal experience, type 1 is actually pretty good in bed -keen to learn and get it right. Type 2 is awful, and women will say 'urgh it's like he thought he was some porn star' or 'he''s been seriously lied to".

Sorry to burst your bubble

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/04/2017 20:37

So as long as men arent criminalised you are quite happy?

Have i read that right?

What a gent

GuardianLions · 02/04/2017 20:41

Exactly rufus

HoldBackTheRain · 02/04/2017 20:42

Lass - sex is part of a loving relationship.

FIghting against poverty - yes I'd like to think people do, including feminists. I'd have thought that was a given, but sadly the vast majority of posts on MN feminist chat are hostile & hysterical trans bashing threads so thought it would be good to double check seeing as poverty is very rarely brought up here.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/04/2017 20:45

hold

I think most people do answer other threads

Its up to people to post them

So do you think that prostitution is an answer to poverty, or more a necessary evil which if it has to exist should protect the women doing it

QuentinSummers · 02/04/2017 20:49

The problem lies with men's attitudes but outlawing the purchase of sex will not help to alter that.
OK. What would it take to stop you purchasing sex? What will change your attitude?

Lessthanaballpark · 02/04/2017 20:50

How do you tackle the problem of the disparity between male and female libido?

There's not a disparity in libido but a disparity in the possible outcomes of sex for men and women.

GuardianLions · 02/04/2017 20:55

gender I second Quentin

OK. What would it take to stop you purchasing sex? What will change your attitude?

HoldBackTheRain · 02/04/2017 20:56

rufus i think the most important thing is sex workers safety and i think decrim is the best form of safety for the women.

i also think that poverty is a big reason as to why women go into prostitution. I saw the bbc films last weekend on the iplayer, I think about 7 of them about 15 minutes long. About Holbeck in Leeds where sex work has been criminalised in that area. All the prostitutes they filmed were addicted to drugs. I also think that 's a massive problem, but was angry that the BBC didn't also follow women going into prostitution so they could pay the rent - I think there are many that do.

What would stop me purchasing sex.... Nothing I can think of. I started in 1997 in my early 20s. Took a complete break during relationships but I am very much addicted. It is how I am wired. Poor impulse control and always highly fixated with women. I need medical intervention and chances are that if you took that part of my life away from me I would end up clinically depressed and dead. It keeps me calm, stable and sane.

GuardianLions · 02/04/2017 21:01

gender have you sought medical/psychiatric advice? It sounds as though you have some issues to sort out for both your sakes and the women you buy.

QuentinSummers · 02/04/2017 21:07

Alright. As you can't change your attitudes to women, you fucking deserve to be criminalised. No-one owes you sex and you admit your attitude won't change so anything you have to say about legalisation/decriminalisation is irrelevant due to a massive vested interest.

ChocChocPorridge · 02/04/2017 21:08

ROFL - so you're not open to actually doing anything to regulate it and make it actually safer, or to criminalize it and reduce it. You just want to make it easier to pay women to fuck them.

I still say that the only 'ethical' brothel is one where you're only allowed to put your penis inside someone once you've had someone put their penis inside of you. You don't have to be attracted to the person putting their penis in you, after all, if those prostitutes wanted to have sex with you, they wouldn't be charging would they.

Gender, you need some help. None of those thoughts or behaviours are normal, and they certainly shouldn't be the basis for laws promoting the exploitation of women.

QuentinSummers · 02/04/2017 21:08

Ugh actually your whole post is so wrong. I agree with guardian, you need a psychiatrist. Women don't owe you mental health. Ugh.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/04/2017 21:14

Thanks hold

I agree that poverty and drug addiction can be reasons for women becoming prostitutes

I dont think that the women shoukd be criminalised, but i dont think it should be legalised either

I probably dont have enough knowledge about it to be honest

GuardianLions · 02/04/2017 21:16

I know... i'm not going to look back now through the thread, but all those accusations abut us not caring about women's safety, poverty, livelihood, etc - such self-serving, disingenuous crap.

Edsheeranalbumparty · 02/04/2017 21:17

Wowzers.

Don't you think it would be better for you to resolve your mental health issues with a qualified medical professional, rather than doing it by treating women as pieces of meat to buy and stick your penis into?

I don't get it? Confused

GuardianLions · 02/04/2017 21:20

hold up thread, you suggested that gender shouldn't reason with us because we are all too narrow minded. Do you still maintain that he was only reasoning with us now that he has disclosed his motivation is purely self-interest?

GenderEqualityAdvocate · 02/04/2017 21:32

Self interest? Most sex workers will tell you they do not need your help. They would rather they were left to make their own choices. They do not need saving by people who live in Ivory Towers and fear human sexual behaviour.

We did away with a Christian morality which preached against sex only to replace it with this feminist puritanicalism.

Why do consenting adults (under law it is consent) need so much of your moral concern? We live to different values to those that you hold. Why can you not just accept diverse ways of living?

GuardianLions · 02/04/2017 21:37

Of course it is self interest. You take great interest in this because you've convinced yourself you need to buy women or kill yourself. That is your primary motivator: You, yourself and your own interests.
