LauraMipsum · 01/04/2017 20:43

The BBC's political equivalent of Jeremy Kyle is hosting "has the time come to decriminalise sex work" tomorrow morning.

I'm going to be in the audience; if anyone wants to support the Nordic model voice via twitter please do!

Still don't believe you. In the unlikely event this happened , still wrong

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 02/04/2017 19:37

No Max, that is not the same. The social worker in that case is an idiot. Having sex is not a human right.

That case involves using grant money to take the person to Amsterdam. The sad little man on here is trying to suggest disability discrimination rules apply. They don't.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/04/2017 19:40

who

I have a feeling gender would only want female clients, in which case they would be bang out of luck

MaximilianNero · 02/04/2017 19:42

No of course they don't, but I wouldn't completely rule out an idiot like that social worker contacting a prostitute informally. I'm not saying it did happen, just that I think it more unlikely than impossible.

And yes, complete idiot. Aside from not having actually read the articles in the convention on human rights, they're assuming it's better to sleep with a prostitute in Amsterdam than England because Amsterdam prostitutes are somehow more protected?!

GenderEqualityAdvocate · 02/04/2017 19:44

I would like nothing more than to be a male escort to women only and it would fit with my fear of commitment but slutty behaviour.

Alas I am grounded by reality and realise that I would never make ends meet. I will keep to the usual day job

whoputthecatout · 02/04/2017 19:44

That's true in theory Rufus. But of course prostitutes can't always pick and choose can they? Perhaps he might be fancied by a 6ft 6 inch muscle man built like a brick shithouse....now that would be interesting.

The would simply be like the prostitutes he fancies who might not fancy him, but, as he says, it the only way they have to earn a living and he's doing them a favour after all.

whoputthecatout · 02/04/2017 19:47

Oh dear, so you are ruling out men then. Bit discrimatory Gender? I wonder how many prostitutes don't really fancy the sex they have with men. Apparently though, that doesn't matter.

I think you should give it a try. Find out what it's like to be penetrated by an unwanted client. Who knows, it might even teach you some empathy. Nah, doubt empathy is your thing really. Entitlement sounds more your style.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/04/2017 19:51

Very misnamed than *genderequalityadvocate"

Oopsy

Bold fail

To whoverer thought that ODFOD is a good reaction to someone asking a question - Biscuit

How do you know i don't have a disability? Or care for someone that does, who would find it very difficult to have a loving relationship despite very much wanting to? Yes I do realise this doesn't apply to everyone with a disbaility but it does to some.

I disagree with you, I do think that decriminalisation is the way forward and I also get frustrated when nobody mentions poverty or austerity (cuts directly affect 80% of women, many of whom are mothers). A lot of single mothers go into prostitution because that's the only way they can feed and clothe themselves and their children. If people disagree with prostitution do they also fight back against the cuts that directly impact on some of the most vulnerable women who may have to go into sex work to survive?

0phelia · 02/04/2017 19:54

Been lurking but just had to massively Head Thump Down to Desk at the orgasm comment made by GEA

LauraMipsum · 02/04/2017 19:56

Sorry to those offended by the Kyle ref. Nicky Campbell is delightful, it's the programme format which I was light heartedly comparing to JK. Perhaps unfair. Certainly not intending to compare NC to JK, just the confrontational format which I appreciate is down to producers not presenters Smile

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/04/2017 19:58

I agree laura

NC seems lovely but by christ some of his guests Shock

GuardianLions · 02/04/2017 20:00

Max very good post.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 02/04/2017 20:05

Or care for someone that does, who would find it very difficult to have a loving relationship despite very much wanting to?

And how exactly does becoming a punter and buying a body to masturbate into resolve the lack of a loving relationship?

0phelia · 02/04/2017 20:12

The personality profile of punters is varied, wide and diffuse.

But I'd say the only thing punters have in common is their beliefs that they "make her come". It's a cognitive necessity in order to enjoy their punter experience. Believe me. They all think "she enjoyed it as much as me".

This is the only trait punters have in common.

When a punter suspects that she did in fact not enjoy it as much as him, then she's a shit hooker. She gets the negative review.

A punter always needs to believe he made you come in order to fulfill his paid GF experience. The working reality is, it's your job to fake it.

MaximilianNero · 02/04/2017 20:14

If people disagree with prostitution do they also fight back against the cuts that directly impact on some of the most vulnerable women who may have to go into sex work to survive?

Uh, yes, obviously. Why are anti-porn and anti-prostitution feminists continually painted as if we're right wing, yay-austerity, social conservatives who lap up every word in the DM*? It's just BS. I'm against anything that puts women in such a vulnerable position they feel forced into prostitution.

*the irony of my having linked to the DM on this thread is not lost on me, but I couldn't find another newspaper reporting the issue

MaximilianNero · 02/04/2017 20:16

I suspect most men who prefer prostitutes to partners, are unable to actually tell the difference between a real orgasm and a fake one.

GuardianLions · 02/04/2017 20:19

Right now if well meaning women set up an establishment they still face the possibility of going to prison for controlling of prostitution. Under that charge the courts can strip them of all assets and impose a lengthy prison term. So currently the risk is not worth taking.

The people who currently run brothels justify the risk in that they effectively, control, coerce and pimp women. They will take 50% of earnings and be open 16 hours a day 7 days a week. It is worth millions. They will place "maids" in the establishment who will handle the day to day running and distance themselves if a police raid comes in (rare these days).

Legalisation would possibly mean a proliferation of these places. It would also give some women the option to set up ethical brothels or just work together from home. Hopefully then the police and councils could start weeding out the worst places. It might also take men to educate others as to the best way to go about finding sex outside of relationships whilst minimising the damage done to women

Nothing you have said here suggests that legalisation or decriminalisation would lead to more prostitutes setting up these idealised 'ethical' brothels any more than having no change in the law or adopting the NM. And yet it is the mantra the pro lobby keep repeating over and over again'... They do a lot of that. Unqualified statements made over and over again.

GenderEqualityAdvocate · 02/04/2017 20:21

So lets explain this to the unitiated. Yes on the average meeting there is general politeness, courtesy, small talk, the woman uses lube and smiles and we both say thank you and goodbye at the end.

Then on the odd occasion you meet someone you click with. You talk more than you normally would, you notice she is more nervous but at the same time she is asking personal stuff. You also notice that things go naturally.

You come to the end of your allotted time and she overruns but does not care. She still wants you to hang around rather than boot you out the door. She starts telling you about her life and then says do you want to go eat as she hates eating alone.

You share a meal, swap messages on whatsapp and become friends.

Not all sex workers are heartless. Not all sex workers are beaten women. Yes, now and then they warm to you and actually want to orgasm on the job.

It is not all exploitation. Sorry to burst your bubble.

AssassinatedBeauty · 02/04/2017 20:23

What percentage of exploitation are you happy with GEA?

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/04/2017 20:24

It might also take men to educate others as to the best way to go about finding sex outside of relationships whilst minimising the damage done to women

Wow.

That's another pile of shit right there

Though to be honest there has been post after post full of bollocks

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/04/2017 20:26

so lets explain this to the unitiated.

ODFOD

and no one on here said sex workers are heartless

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 02/04/2017 20:29

Rufus Hasn't it just? Post after post of self-serving drivel.

Still a punter. Still deserving contempt.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/04/2017 20:31

I agree lass
