Gender Critical Reference Thread

BetsyM00 · 13/03/2017 21:11

There was talk on this transgender thread about starting a list of references.

Hope no-one minds me starting one. Please feel free to add to it!

I'm still looking for a good link to dispute the pink/blue brain nonsense. Maybe @M0stlyBowlingHedgehog can add one with references to d values of 0.5.

I'll start with Gender Identity (Protected Characteristic) Bill 2016-17

Childline information on transgender looks as though it's come straight out of the transactivists' handbook:

www.childline.org.uk/info-advice/your-feelings/sexual-identity/transgender-identity/

It starts 'When we're born, people decide our gender for us. This means they decide whether we're a boy or a girl.'

Lalsy · 14/03/2017 23:41

That is appalling Angry. Should we email Childline with links to some science and ask for their source that "gender" is decided at birth?

NB, I think the ACPeds is not what it seems (has been brought up on other threads).

This is a great collection of gender critical articles.

Regarding the autism links, as a teacher of children with autism, I have seen exactly what's described among more socially able and socially aware pupils. One pupil received support around a desire to be female and later decided he was gay and enjoys fashion.

Also had the opposite scenario where a boy point blank refused to read Cinderella (reading book) as it was 'for girls.' I've never had mainstream children do this, even if they thought it.

DameDeDoubtance · 16/03/2017 07:33

Good article on brains

Some resources for anyone concerned about the effect of the trans agenda on children:

www.transgendertrend.com

A site set up by a group of parents concerned about the current trend to diagnose ‘gender non-conforming’ children as transgender.

4thwavenow.com

This site was started by the mother of a teenage girl who suddenly decided she was a 'trans man'. The site's author says : " I created this site because mine is a viewpoint that is seldom publicly heard: that of a left-leaning parent who is critical of the dominant paradigm regarding transgender politics and treatment."

youthtranscriticalprofessionals.org

From the site: "There are two principal authors of this site. One is a clinical social worker, the other is a university professor. We are left-leaning, open-minded, and pro-gay rights. However, we are concerned about the current trend to quickly diagnose and affirm young people as transgender, often setting them down a path toward medical transition."

Not sure if this is the right thread for the above link. I was just thinking of those supporting the poster who is currently being put through similar.
The comments are interesting - some further reading there.

thenewbacklash.blogspot.fr/

Excellent blog with analysis of key concepts.

booox · 18/03/2017 13:57

Thanks for these last ones.

Underlying all this is the area of free speech.

My feelings are that until that is revisited and reinstated by all (young people in particular) this will not be resolved.

booox · 18/03/2017 14:21

I can't help but feel the fashion industry are making a good start at helping to dismantle stereotypes.

Great blog, beachcomber. Thanks for the link. I will read it some more when I'm not so sleepy that I keep nodding off!

data.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/committeeevidence.svc/evidencedocument/women-and-equalities-committee/transgender-equality/written/24915.pdf

Summary of existing legislation and some effects of potential changes to it, commissioned from a barrister in relation to the proposed Gender Identity Bill.

Was posted on another thread and is helpful (if depressing).

An article from yesterday - the italicised amendment was in response to a complaint but the main text was not contested by complainant: www.scotsman.com/news/opinion/dare-to-debate-this-damaging-idea-that-gender-is-a-social-construct-1-4342596

We have been informed that, although John Hopkins Medical School stopped carrying out genitoplasty under Prof McHugh’s direction in the 1970s, it has since reversed this policy and is now ‘fully committed to providing gender-affirming surgery’. An official statement issued in 2016 confirmed that the decision to resume this surgery was taken as the result of ‘careful consideration over the past year of best practices and the appropriate provision of care for transgender individuals’. We are happy to set the record straight.

Wtf? They've reversed their policy??

CaroleService · 23/03/2017 06:51

I'm guessing they can do it better nowadays.

meddie · 23/03/2017 08:24

Except full genital surgery will become more difficult in mtf in the future. if boys are puberty blocked then their penis will not develop beyond that of a child, As its the inverted penis which is used to form a Neovagina, then there isnt going to be much to work with. Means they will either have to use tissue grafts, causing scarring at the donor site, or they will use a piece of colon with all the risks that entails.

Stopmakingsense · 23/03/2017 14:31

NUS Fair representation now requires 50% of delegates to be "self-defining women": from their guidance:

Identifying women candidates

To conduct a fair representation election, you need to identify women candidates in the election at the outset. It is very important that you ask candidates to define their own gender identity at the point of nomination. NUS believes that self-definition of gender is the only way someone’s gender identity should be labelled. You should never ‘work out’ who is a woman based on people’s names or their physical appearance. For example, someone’s self-identified gender may not correlate with society’s presentations of gender.

I realise these folks are in their own little ivory tower, but there now could very easily be NO women - i.e. adult human females - being NUS delegates. Funnily enough, no need to ensure that at least 50% of delegates are self-identifying men - wonder why that is?

Usui101 · 23/03/2017 22:11

Guess who just hit #peaktrans again having read Stopmakingsense last post!

BTW do you think we should mention to these MTT that many women (yes myself included) actually do not experience vaginal o***m but instead it is based elsewhere within that region? Grin

booox · 24/03/2017 05:39

Yes - it's all focussed on the vagina. No obsession with constructing a clitoris. (I think?)

Which leads me to think of fgm :(

jellyfrizz · 24/03/2017 08:56

Aargh Carole I've just been reading through that legal advice on the GI Bill. I've only got to page 10 but THIS:

It suggests building on this position:

“…it is necessary to go beyond the traditional classification and recognise that, in addition to the man/woman dichotomy, there is a range of characteristics, behaviour and roles shared by men and
women, so that sex itself ought rather to be thought of as a continuum. From that point of view, it is clear that it would not be right to continue to treat as unlawful solely acts of discrimination on grounds of sex which are referable to men and women in the traditional sense of those terms, while refusing to protect those
who are also treated unfavourably precisely because of
their sex and/or sexual identity.”

(pg 10 data.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/committeeevidence.svc/evidencedocument/women-and-equalities-committee/transgender-equality/written/24915.pdf)

Just WTF? The 'traditional' classification of man and woman?? No mention of biology at all. Sex as a continuum?!

Thelilywhite · 24/03/2017 12:07

'sex itself ought rather to be thought of as a continuum.' FFS ! Biology lessons needed urgently. Who the hell writes this garbage?

Thelilywhite · 24/03/2017 12:15

www.transgendertrend.com/detransition/

Thought it would be good to have some detransitioning stories on here.
One of the reasons I feel so strongly about these issues is that a dfs child was FTT then de-transed. Was hospitalized for depression prior to transing. A very unhappy young person.
