Can we show our support for Jenni? I think she will be in for a kicking tomorrow

Thanks Jenni, for your bravery in speaking the truth

Yup, same reply here.

It would be interesting to know how many complaints they got about it...

ErrolTheDragon · 08/03/2017 15:42

seafood - so are you going to ask if they will deliver a similar reprimand to Libby Purves for her non-impartial column in the Times today? (I'm not sure if trans issues have come up on midweek tbf but seems like the sort of thing which might)

Bambambini · 08/03/2017 15:43

Don't know if this piece from The Spectator in defence of JM has been posted but it's bloody good. Deals more with the cries of bigot to shut down debate than what JM was saying.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 08/03/2017 15:46

I got the exact same non-reply from the BBC.

SunlessSea · 08/03/2017 15:49

Bambambini, notice one of the comments below that article?
"OK
You seem to be defending a broadcaster who is abusing her exalted position to attack a beleaguered minority who have endured torment and bullying most of their lives
Until they take the courage to announce their true identity
You should be shot"

More threats of violence . . . .

humourless · 08/03/2017 15:57

Argh same reply.

I'm going back in.

Marilynsbigsister · 08/03/2017 16:01

I am Jenni Murray and I've complained to the Beeb.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/03/2017 16:04

I noticed that, sunless, but read on as far as a link - which I hope other people engaged in this debate are aware of but I'd not come across before - updated this January www.acpeds.org/the-college-speaks/position-statements/gender-ideology-harms-children

That more than anything is, I think, the reason why so many MNers oppose the TRA agenda. Yes, because of women's safe spaces etc but mainly because transgender dogma is damaging to children.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 08/03/2017 16:04

Yes, people should keep complaining even though the reply was meaningless.

humourless · 08/03/2017 16:05

My response.

controversial
kɒntrəˈvəːʃ(ə)l/Submit
adjective
giving rise or likely to give rise to controversy or public disagreement.

What is controversial about saying what a woman is?
When did it become controversial to say a woman cannot be born a man?
When did it become controversial to say that a trans woman is not the same as a woman?
Can we still say a female cow produces milk?
Can we say hens lay eggs?
Can we say a mare has foals?
Can we say only women have vaginas?
Can we say the penis is a male body part?

Is it controversial to say a woman has a vagina?
Is it controversial to say a man has a penis?
Is it controversial to call Jeremy Corbyn "hard left"?

I feel that as a public service broadcaster to argue that saying a woman is born a girl deeply misogynistic and erases women. The assault on women across society is not unnoticed.

It's a damned shame you've joined in.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/03/2017 16:10

Are freelance journalists required to be 'impartial' to the extent of not stating simple scientific facts if they present programs covering other 'controversial' topics such as climate change or vaccination?Confused

SunlessSea · 08/03/2017 16:20

Errol, I agree totally. As another poster one one of the other threads wrote, until a few months ago, I would have blindly supported trans "rights". Having lurked on these threads, I have come to understand what damage could be done , and my worries are for my young daughter's future.

I'm of an age where I took women's rights for granted (which I shouldn't have done), because previous generations had gained them for me. I can't take those rights for granted for her.

I've had it said to me that my daughter "should have been a boy" (not in any sinister way), but it made me think - it's noticed by other parents, at her all girls school, that she likes likes Minecraft and Star Wars (as well as Barbie and My Little Pony). The fact that someone could quite seriously tell her that she's ACTUALLY a boy because of this is terrifying. She just likes "stuff" she likes, like children do.

HumphreyCobblers · 08/03/2017 16:25

Errol, that is SUCH a good point about the Libby Purves article.

Really, if impartiality is all important then Libby should also watch herself.

Except that it is only transwomen who get to accuse people of impartiality, women's views don't count Angry

BakeOffBiscuits · 08/03/2017 16:32

they are discussing this on the Media show now Radio 4

HumphreyCobblers · 08/03/2017 16:33

I don't dare listen, my blood pressure won't take it.

tell me how it is going?

IAmAmy · 08/03/2017 16:34

It comes to something when Brendan O'Neill makes more sense than some who'd label themselves "intersectional feminists".

BakeOffBiscuits · 08/03/2017 17:00

The Times journo was very supportive of Jenni. The whole chat was about 15 mins long and well worth a listen

They played a bit where Jenni asked India W about leg shaving.Grin

India W made the great comment - "all little girls go through the phase of liking pink glittery things".Hmm. Whoever chose and played that clip: thank you very much for showing yet a gain how little India understands about sex and gender.

Datun · 08/03/2017 17:03

On the radio, the woman from the Sunday Times said they had received overwhelming support for what Jenni said. So many women saying thank God she has spoken up for what we are all thinking.

The tide is definitely turning. And they don't even know about AGP, most transwomen retaining their penises and being attracted to women, the persecution of lesbians. That's not even out there yet!

HumphreyCobblers · 08/03/2017 17:11

thanks - I am now brave enough to listen!

So glad they played the leg shaving clip. I was listening at the time and I heard the incredulity in Jenni's voice as she replied. Also India denied having said any such thing after the article came out..

IAmAmy · 08/03/2017 17:12

all little girls go through the phase of liking pink glittery things

Oh dear. Would girls who didn't actually have "boy brains" and need to start identifying as boys, I wonder. I hope statements like that help some people see how ridiculous this nonsense is.

Datun that is very reassuring to hear, I often worry how cemented opinion seems to be becoming against the sensible views Jenni Murray articulated so it's good to hear how much support the Sunday Times have received for her piece.

BakeOffBiscuits · 08/03/2017 17:18

"Also India denied having said any such thing after the article came out.."

Yes she did, she said it was "fake news".

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 08/03/2017 17:19

Also received the same non-reply from the Beeb. Going back in to say a) I hope they are going to give Libby Purves a warning too and b) to ask them to explain what's controversial about defining women as people with XX chromosomes.

Did anyone else notice how incredibly cumbersome the complaints process was...almost as if they wanted to put you off complaining.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/03/2017 17:20

I caught most of that but missed the end. The piece came about because the Sunday Times journo was in the WH studio at the same time as IW - she said that while talking after IW said the 'women who don't shave are dirty' thing.

Bambambini · 08/03/2017 17:26

Willoughby has come out really badly here. There has been little support on her Twitter feed, especially from her celebrity mates. In fact some TW are criticising Willoughby on how bad she's making the community look. Almost feel sorry for her.
