... please tell me I'm not the only one.

Have become more feminist, making sense of life experiences over last few years.

Looked for feminist group locally/online. Or women's groups.

Everything's taken over by trans...

I've bought a ticket for the Cheltenham event. Would someone please pm me if there is a meeting?

Fairyflaps · 28/02/2017 06:08

Venus it looks like there are definitely a few of us going to Cheltenham. Once the venue is confirmed, we can perhaps arrange somewhere to meet up in advance. Will pm you

Milliepede · 28/02/2017 15:56

Does anyone know of any gendercrtical groups that meet in the NE area? I would like to meet other like minded women.

Thisisouting · 28/02/2017 16:40

Looks like Manchester femanist network has been infultrated link to everyday transactivism about why cis isn't oppressive.

I've reported as it's supposedly against the group guidelines which I had to agree to before they let me join. Will see what happens, I've outed myself as a real life TERF it feels quite good Grin

sassandfaff · 01/03/2017 09:51

I've outed myself as a terf too on my fb. I've got a few liberal feminists on there, funnily enough they are all people I have met through mums net antenatal groups. No one challenges me though. They may have hidden me though. Grin
She has been challenged though.

sassandfaff · 01/03/2017 09:51

Sorry. Lots of thoughs!

seafoodeatit · 01/03/2017 11:19

South West terf here, would have loved to go to the chelteham workshop but left it too late umming and ahing over childcare and it's sold out.

mirrorisnotmyfriend · 01/03/2017 17:35

Here's a page where there's a call to action to organise local events. Do join and share www.facebook.com/groups/1214694235314200/?fref=nf

Birdsbeesandtrees · 01/03/2017 18:28

I'm north east and depressed that everyone on my fb full of liberal decent people basically is swallowing this stuff and talking about terfs being horrible.

It's a really weird thing for me to not be sharing my views with these people and I don't dare speak up as I would be eaten alive.

Birdsbeesandtrees · 01/03/2017 18:29

I'm in Yorkshire btw - most of my friends are fellow millennialist.

Birdsbeesandtrees · 01/03/2017 18:29

Milenials

GinAndTunic · 01/03/2017 18:34

London TERF calling in.

Thisisouting · 01/03/2017 22:30

Well I've not been called a TERF or told to DIAF although apparently I spend too much time thinking about other people's genitals if you don't look men can't offend you with their penis. I'm confused at how a femanist can make rapey comments like that? Hmm

punkadiddle · 02/03/2017 22:26

Just saw this post - Aberdeenshire here and yes Smile

HardcoreLadyType · 02/03/2017 22:37

Another SE London/North Kent TERF here.

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 10/03/2017 13:33

Just been directed over here from another thread - any East of England TERFs about? I fear I'm on my own. I'm North Essex (few miles away from Cambridge).

conkercola · 10/03/2017 17:15

Welsh TERF signing in. Can we call the Welsh branch 'Welsh TERF Federation' or WTF Grin

LaurenLouise96 · 11/03/2017 01:16

Just a question, no harm meant, why excluding trans? What have they done?!

Fairyflaps · 11/03/2017 07:50

why excluding terfs?
TERF is short for trans exclusionary radical feminists. It is used to describe women (and it seems to be always women never men) who say that a transwoman is not a woman and a transman is not a man. It is almost always used as a slur.

It is also inaccurate. Most of the mumsnetters on these threads are as far from being radical feminists as Jenni Murray is. We are not exclusionary apart from in the sense that we exclude transwomen from the category women.
For the purposes of this thread, we are co-opting TERF as a shorthand for women who do not believe that trans women are women, and serves as a rallying cry.

In person, some of us certainly have friends and family who are trans. We do not exclude them. But we believe that being a woman is to do with biological sex, not an innate feeling, and the condition of being a woman in our society is sadly not something you can simply identify your way out of.

Increasingly we are driven out of feminist groups, as the we are not allowed to express the opinion that trans women are not women. Transwomen (certainly because they have been socialised as men) take up a disproportionate amount of the space and attention in these groups.

This deprives us of the opportunity to openly discuss and organise against those things which oppress us as a sex class - reproductive rights, sexual harassment, etc

user1487175389 · 11/03/2017 07:56

I'm not sure I'm a Terf. I'm definitely a radical feminist, and definitely gender critical. However, I don't want to exclude anyone who identifies as trans, because their experiences of gender and sex may bring something to the debate, provided it's a two way street and they listen as much as they speak.

Fairyflaps · 11/03/2017 08:15

Thanks user1487175389 - gender critical was the phrase I was looking for.
And absolutely agreed, there should be polite and respectful discussion between both sides.

Carriemac · 11/03/2017 08:26

TERF from east mids here.

SpartacusRaven · 12/03/2017 19:54
