... please tell me I'm not the only one.

Have become more feminist, making sense of life experiences over last few years.

Looked for feminist group locally/online. Or women's groups.

Everything's taken over by trans...

Tyneside TERF here (waves)

MissingTheVillage · 16/02/2017 22:06

Twogoats Bulls eye! Newcastle here too.

So... do you all have people you can talk to who understand where you're coming from re. feminism? In general, I mean, not specifically trans stuff...
I used to be quite political but all the lefty men Hmm put me off.

Yorkshire TERF.
Yorkshire is a bit big though.

venusinscorpio · 17/02/2017 00:01

TERF in the South. But I'm pretty sure none of us are actually TERFs as we would accept transmen as women.

Datun · 17/02/2017 00:19

Hi pencil and pat

venus I know, but I'm so fucking over it, I don't care what it's supposed to mean. It's a slur and a misnomer but it no longer bothers me.

venusinscorpio · 17/02/2017 00:30

Me neither, I really couldn't care less. People who call you a TERF don't want to engage, they just want to lob it and run. Unless you challenge what it means, and then they will tell you at length how privileged you are and how you don't have the right to reject it. Best response is "Meh".

Daughterofeve · 17/02/2017 00:31

Lincolnshire Terf

ReginaGeorgeinSheepsClothing · 17/02/2017 00:42

TERFy MacTerf here- (west coast best Coast) Scotland too!

PatMullins · 17/02/2017 06:23

Yo Datun Smile

HelenDenver · 17/02/2017 08:59

The use of TERF now reminds me of the quote, "I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat." (Rebecca West)

If you aren't a Gender Feelz Rool Doormat, then you are a TERF, apparently.

Fairyflaps · 17/02/2017 10:17

I'm exiled from the north in the south.
But my advice would be to attend some of the feminist events coming up for IWD, get inspired. Talk to people in real life, especially older women. You will almost certainly find other women who think like you. I expect the majority do. But for obvious reasons, most terfy sorts don't do it publicly on social media.

In fact, I'm gonna stick that on my twitter!!

OverthinkingSpartacus · 17/02/2017 11:09

I'm from North East. :) I'm near bishop Auckland now but originally from Sedgfield area. Everyone here says I have a proper Geordie accent and often think I'm from Newcastle.

I have a friend who I can speak to about feminism in general as well as the trans stuff too, as I've got older I've started speaking up more when people in group conversations say something offensively sexist, so instead of nodding to be polite and keeping trap shut, I've started saying "I don't agree because ......" and then I get eye rolls.

explodingkittens · 17/02/2017 16:23

I'm a Kent TERF.

I've learned so much from these threads recently, and they've helped me to clarify some stuff that I was seeing on social media (Twitter mainly) that I felt uncomfortable about but I sort-of assumed that I just didn't really understand it properly.

I realise now that I understood it perfectly well, I just didn't agree with it.

BarrackerBarma · 17/02/2017 17:17

Another NW here. There seem to be a few of us!

Babieseverywhere · 17/02/2017 18:29

Another North West Terf :)

GinAndSonic · 17/02/2017 19:26

I'm in Newcastle. Happy to connect on fb if anyone would like, but for certain reasons I can't be openly TERFy on there really. It's boiling my fucking piss though. Happy (more than happy!) to set the world to rights over messenger / a cup of tea.

DameDeDoubtance · 18/02/2017 17:37

Another Kentish TERF! Smile

GinevraFanshawe · 18/02/2017 17:39
