... please tell me I'm not the only one.

Have become more feminist, making sense of life experiences over last few years.

Looked for feminist group locally/online. Or women's groups.

Everything's taken over by trans...

a recent chat with a colleague revealed that her new (second) husband who was from the south had been quite shocked but how much casual sexism there is in the north east. The way women are discussed and viewed.

That's interesting, VIOLET. I'm from the south originally and must admit in many ways I feel I don't belong here. (I can't afford to move back though.)
Having said that, my main frustration was with university-educated types who protest about everything else not giving a shit about women or feminism. The more common-or-garden sexism just makes me feel as if I'm from another planet doing a sociological study. Hmm. Probably some stuff I need to unpack there regarding class/them-and-us...

Anyway... I'd be interested in starting a group or something, maybe?

protest about everything else not giving a shit about women or feminism.

I've come across a couple of these. I sometimes think they think it's all been sorted out in the 70s.

To be fair, I've only really become more aware of some ongoing issues as I've got older and had my son.

I'm in. I'm still a bit of a beginner mind you!

what's the betting we all know each other!

DownHereInTheHorridHouse · 23/02/2017 10:57

Does anyone from Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire fancy meeting up for coffee and a natter?

Thelilywhite · 23/02/2017 11:11

Horridhouse Im in Scotland too but much further south than you unfortunately as would love to chat irl with other cisters/ terfs

DownHereInTheHorridHouse · 23/02/2017 12:21

You'll have civilised discussions down there Thelilywhite Sad. I miss it . . .

Cooroo · 23/02/2017 13:09

I'm in Leeds and didn't now I was a TERF till recently. Being 57 I don't encounter anyone discussing Trans rights IRL. Got the gist from DD (20). She has friends and a step sister who identify as non-gender which she 'supports' but is perplexed about. I was just a rather lazy old-fashioned feminist from the 70s, but have increasingly been reading these pages and am ready to (quietly) come out as a TERF. I think.

Fairyflaps · 23/02/2017 13:47

Are any SW/ W Midlands/ Gloucestershire TERFs going to this event in Cheltenham in March?

CharlieSierra · 23/02/2017 19:47

I am Fairy

NotAMammy · 23/02/2017 22:08

Also in Newcastle and interested in meeting up with people. Unfortunately, due to where I work I don't think I could publically call myself a TERF! I also feel like I don't understand enough at the moment. But I'd love to have some more feminist connections around here (and connections in general as I'm not from here and suck at making connections)

NotAMammy · 23/02/2017 22:09

strikethrough fail

CancellyMcChequeface · 24/02/2017 12:35

South London TERF checking in. I'm also a student and Anna Lee was one of my peak trans moments, although I don't feel confident enough to speak openly about my views without online anonymity.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 24/02/2017 13:32

Does anyone in the South London / Kent / Surrey area fancy a TERFy meetup?

Fairyflaps · 24/02/2017 13:56

Great CharlieSierra - see you there Smile

CaroleService · 24/02/2017 13:59

ooh, good idea!

qumquat · 24/02/2017 14:02

I'm south East London/Kent borders would love to meet up. I'm also originally from Newcastle so good to hear from people there.

CharlieSierra · 24/02/2017 20:14

Fairy great, I'm really looking forward to it, I think a few other Terfy MNers are up for it too. Sadly the Critical Sisters Facebook page is unavailable and all of their posts has disappeared from my feed. Censored I think. Angry

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 24/02/2017 20:28

How shall we do this? Maybe Kent / Surrey / South London TERFs who'd like to meet up start by PMing me and we could Facebook friend each other?

BarrackerBarma · 25/02/2017 14:46

I think Critical sisters is only offline temporarily and not due to censorship.

CharlieSierra · 25/02/2017 15:49

Barracker I assumed since there was an activist on there the other day and it got quite nasty. I really hope it hasn't been taken down due to so called 'hate speech' as there genuinely wasn't any.

WeldMeDaphne · 25/02/2017 16:37

Fairy and Charlie- that looks good, I might see if I'm free that day. Gloucestershire terf checking in here.

mirrorisnotmyfriend · 25/02/2017 19:44

Edinburgh here if anyone wants to pm me.

ThymeLord · 25/02/2017 20:10

Lancashire TERF here. Am a member of Manchester Feminist Network but have yet to go along in RL.

helpimitchy · 26/02/2017 18:01

Durham here.

DJBaggySmalls · 26/02/2017 18:19

Midlands TERF here, if Trumpsters can claim the Left drove them to it then I can use that arguement as well.

Thingsgettingstranger · 26/02/2017 19:27

Late joiner but I'm a TERF from the north west, as is my 15 year old lesbian dd (and all her friends) and my transsexual 16 year old DS. There's loads of lesbians and gay kids (I've noticed) from the ages 13-17 who are sick and tired of the trans stuff round here.
