... please tell me I'm not the only one.

Have become more feminist, making sense of life experiences over last few years.

Looked for feminist group locally/online. Or women's groups.

Everything's taken over by trans...

Taffy TERF checking in. I have this forum to thank for waking me up.

Datun · 22/02/2017 09:39

If any Kentish TERFS are aware of any women's groups, the terfy kind, do let me know.

I'm another one who can't share this on Facebook. But I am talking to people in real life about it. Two years ago they looked at me like I was a bit weird, now they join the dots much quicker.

PatMullins · 22/02/2017 09:40

I would like to know of any too Smile

Finally a UK petition re Gender Identity Bill : citizengo.org/en-gb/pc/41304-say-not-dangerous-gender-identity-bill?tc=fb&tcid=32808372

sassandfaff · 22/02/2017 14:16

I'm Lancashire, but can get to Liverpool and Manchester easily enough.

It's not huge at all to me. Grin

StripeyTed · 22/02/2017 14:47

I'm in the Liverpool area. Have learned such a lot from reading the threads on here, would be great to talk about these ideas in real-life, without looking like a ranting mad woman!

paddypants13 · 22/02/2017 14:50

North Yorkshire terf here!

thecraftyfox · 22/02/2017 16:08

If you're in the North West, especially Greater Manchester then you might be interest in the Manchester Feminist Network. Women only meetings and the organisers are very clear that the group is gender critical. The next meeting is in April and is planning for the march against male violence in July.

Group is on Facebook for those interested.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/02/2017 16:14

Crafty, I don't do FB, is there any other way to get info please? (I'm a fair way north of Manchester but DH goes there often for humanist/sceptic type meetings ... I'm a bit wibbly about going there alone in an evening though)

booox · 22/02/2017 16:33

Bingo! Newcastle TERF!

I just had to google what a terf is and I think I am, so a newly born terf :)

I see what you mean though. It was all trans.

I have been bleating on talking to some colleagues and friends about things I guess. But not in terms of TERF as I don't think anyone I know is aware of it.

booox · 22/02/2017 16:34

I'm a member of a couple of unique local fbs and they're all exclusively women groups by their nature. Some feminist things do get discussed so I think there's more of us...

Godstopper · 22/02/2017 16:35

TERF in York checking in.

I dare not discuss trans issues anywhere else but here, e.g. I have a FTM FB friend who is forever posting about TERFS and 'CIS Privileged' people. Said person also claims to be autistic, bi-polar, an actual genius, and a real life vampire. They have so many unusual conditions all at once that I am no longer sure which ones to believe: it's saying LOOK AT ME I AM SO VERY SPECIAL AND DEMAND ATTENTION.

Would travel within a reasonable distance to meetings ...

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 22/02/2017 16:35

South-East London TERF!

booox · 22/02/2017 16:39

Could someone help me define the term please?

booox · 22/02/2017 17:03

So... do you all have people you can talk to who understand where you're coming from re. feminism? In general, I mean, not specifically trans stuff...

Yes, actually I'm extremely lucky I think. Ive just done a mental trawl of my friends and actually some of my closest I can openly talk about this stuff.

I met them in an evening class and haven't realised how uniquely feminist they are till very recently. So we don't talk a great deal as it's so understood if that makes sense? One studied peace studies at hull, another is the very embodiment of a woman breaking glass ceilings.

I've also had many friends dealing with abusive partners and having to recognise it.

(Is that the kind of thing you're thinking about?)

DownHereInTheHorridHouse · 22/02/2017 18:09

No, I don't have anyone at all to speak to about this stuff. I have some friends who don't live here and we chat on FB, but where I live, no one at all (apart from my older kids actually - they're both pretty clued-up on all of this).

booox · 22/02/2017 18:18

unborn oooh just saw your message. I'm surprised too round there but now not surprised as I think I know more from that way than Newcastle central!

MissingTheVillage · 22/02/2017 19:40

Godstopper I didn't know there were still people who believed they were vampires! I remember coming across it and almost putting myself in danger in my teenage goth days...

Yes, this is what I mean. Just being aware there are others out there with the same views, not constantly feeling like a fish out of water or having to constantly screen out casual sexism. Especially in political conversations with left-wing men, for some reason that really grates!

I've also had many friends dealing with abusive partners and having to recognise it.

Again, yes. Just having people understand the context must really help.

OP posts:
booox · 22/02/2017 19:50

missing a recent chat with a colleague revealed that her new (second) husband who was from the south had been quite shocked but how much casual sexism there is in the north east. The way women are discussed and viewed.

I personally came to the ne over 20 years ago to go to university (I'm from the midlands) and I guess most of the people I know are here from uni, or were also at uni separately to me and stayed. I don't know if that makes a difference?

booox · 22/02/2017 19:51

Just having people understand the context must really help.

Yes, I think it does. Probably more than I'm aware.

FrameyMcFrame · 22/02/2017 19:52

Another TERF in Newcastle here. We should start something

booox · 22/02/2017 19:53

(Don't wish to carve up the U.K. Into feminist areas, but a little observation I've become aware of recently thanks to my colleague!)

Peak trans stories peaktrans.tumblr.com

booox · 22/02/2017 20:26

Wow. Brain hurting after that.

Interesting there are a few who have transitioned who reject or are annoyed with the trans movement.
