They come up with this.

First post - Why Transwomen Aren't Biologically Male.
www.facebook.com/everydayfeminism/

The comments are encouraging though, that is, the ones that haven't been deleted. Lots of people questioning and calling this out.

Sadly I didn't have genderblank in my EF sanctioned list!

MaryTheCanary · 27/02/2017 02:52

The deletions that I have seen on the question of transgenderism seem very.... random which makes me wonder if there are perhaps several people in charge of looking at threads and they have very different views, and whether a thread gets pulled is very much a question of who is on thread-watch duty at the time.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 27/02/2017 06:14

Caelgender: a gender which shares qualities with outer space or has the aesthetic of space, stars, nebulas, etc.

I want to be this and identify as Jupiter Grin

BeyondUnderthinking · 27/02/2017 09:42

That's how I've interpreted it for a while, Mary

Hmm, beyondExgenderDemisnowflake has a nice ring to it....

thepinklantern · 27/02/2017 10:03

I think what saddens me is that people who search out these new genders don't feel they fit with society, but it's not them, it's society and the way it requires neat boxes.

But you can apply it to anyone, fat, thin, black, white and everyone in between.

I was struck by the research in 'the affluenza virus' book that showed that an island somewhere I the south seas that didn't get tv till relatively late had no instances of anorexia until they did get tv.

BeyondUnderthinking · 27/02/2017 10:57

Where's that "breaking the chains" meme when ya need it Grin

MrsWooster · 27/02/2017 11:26

God, that Tucker whatsit video is amazing. Bullshitectomy, live on air.

WhereYouLeftIt · 27/02/2017 13:33

That Tumblr list just has to be satire.

nauticant · 27/02/2017 14:02

That Fox video is an interesting watch. But it's useful to view this in terms of overlapping interests rather than sides:
trans-critical feminism: gender is unimportant, sex is important
trans-activists: gender is everything, sex is unimportant
conservative right: gender is important and = sex, sex is important.

venusinscorpio · 27/02/2017 14:30

The lists aren't satire, or if they are a lot of people take them awfully seriously.

Terfinator · 27/02/2017 14:37

That article is very worrying. At this rate, 11 and 12-year-olds are going to be forced/encouraged onto a part of lifelong medication and sterility.

How many children or teenagers, or even people in their 20s want to have children? It doesn't hit you when you're young. What is going happen to these kids when they fall in love and want to start a family?

And why on earth would anyone who is distressed at the cards with which they have been dealt, not want to find a way of helping themselves that doesn't involve drugs and sterility? If it doesn't work then go for the drug/surgery option.

The argument against that, is that you will pass a lot easier if you have transitioned as a teenager. Which brings us back to the issue of why you can't just wear what you like, present as you like without accounting negative attitudes.

I just read this but its very long Im afraid. Zucker has been bullied off a panel at a conference on transgender issues. The writer raises many points around the issues we discuss here.

SoulSearcher101 · 27/02/2017 20:16

Datun, I have got to the point where I wonder whether to just "leave them to it" because the longer terms impacts will be so much more influential than our discussions here. If I had a crystal ball I can reasonable foresee a situation where all these transgender people who are infertile will have a sartori and realise they have been short changed and then what?

ToffeeForEveryone · 27/02/2017 20:20

I just can't even with this nonsense any more.

Cis is offensive. Even if you accept that it's not intended to be offensive (which is certainly not always true, it is frequently used as a pejorative), whether something is offensive or not is nothing to do with intentions, it's about how it comes across to others. I find cis offensive. So do a lot of other people. For very logical and legitimate reasons.

But we're just being precious. And dumb. And the world is how I see it because I said so and I'm telling you, and don't you answer back woman. Sorry, cis woman.

I'm all for trans people being able to live however they feel comfortable. But the weird double think that's constantly being insisted upon is just mind boggling. Not biologically male? Are we just making shit up now?

Exhausting.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 27/02/2017 20:28

I don't feel we can "leave them to it" because the people who are being harmed aren't the activists but children and teenagers, SoulSearcher. The most important thing is combating the collapse of medical ethics: there appears to be no proper evidence for any of this child transition shit. That and trying to get out an alternative message than that of Mermaids, a very sinister organisation.

SoulSearcher101 · 27/02/2017 20:35

Hi Prawn, I have done all I can as a lone voice in the wilderness, wrote to Maria Miller, wrote to my local MP, wrote to the BMA Ethics Committee, wrote to media outlets, spoken to my friend who works for the BBC etc etc. Without a joined up response that is all we will ever be, lone voices, I have tried to contact people/organisations who also question this agenda and get signposted to other organisations who either do not offer the courtesy of responding (as is the case with Maria Miller and my local MP) or support the gender affirming approach (which I totally question). I even tried Samaritans to get some idea of where to go to speak with others and was once again directed to gender affirming organisations - this agenda is insidious and has grown tentacles into every avenue - the only considered response to my queries has been from my local GP who quite clearly indicated that TRA's are a "cult" - his words not mine.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 27/02/2017 21:08

I know it's tough. Sometimes I feel drained by - as you say - the tentacles. But it won't last forever. There have been other medical scandals - fashions - lobotomy, for example - and other scandals of public policy - Rotherham and all the other grooming gangs - and all it takes is a few high profile cases and the whole thing collapses.

I remember the Satanic child abuse business - for years and in the US as well as here there was a strong belief, promoted by doctors and social workers, that hundreds, maybe thousands of children were being ritually abused. The whole thing first took on a life of its own and then - suddenly - collapsed. No one ever mentions it now.

The science behind child transition is rubbish. And when it falls the credibility of all those trans pressure groups will fall too.

SoulSearcher101 · 27/02/2017 21:21

Prawn as someone with origins in Rotherham, I think I can suggest that what happened there has not gone away or "collapsed" but rather it has gone deeper underground. People local to the area believe that taxi drivers in particular are going outside the region to get licences to continue the "trade" and also believe that many young people are still caught up in it - that this I am guessing is not reported is a failing in the media. I do however have to say that SYP are trying their very best, sadly that is not always enough, you may have heard of a young woman who was recently killed close to Rotherham - whether that particular case was connected or not is unclear but what is suggested is that she had contacted her murderer via social media: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-38648746

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 27/02/2017 21:40

Sorry, I didn't put that at all well. What I was referring to was the claim - made repeatedly - that there was no grooming scandal. Local politicians and the police dismissed the idea. People who tried to get the authorities to act lost their jobs and were labelled racist.

I'm horrified to hear it's gone underground. That's dreadful. But I imagine the local politicians, the social services, etc are no longer pretending it never happened. At least I bloody well hope so.

venusinscorpio · 27/02/2017 22:18

A fairly damning report in 2015 by Louise Casey showed that Rotherham council still didn't accept the full extent of what happened.

I completely understand how sometimes it can feel like an uphill struggle. People want to be inclusive and often don't see where the harm lies. But because the harm is very real and very detectable, it does start to become apparent.

There is also a lot of fear. Not just of being attacked and abused, but of going against what appears to be a consensus. No one wants to put the head above the parapet But many people do secretly question the ideology.

Little by little it will all come out. A few high-profile cases will give more people courage and, I believe it will snow ball.
