They come up with this.

First post - Why Transwomen Aren't Biologically Male.
www.facebook.com/everydayfeminism/

The comments are encouraging though, that is, the ones that haven't been deleted. Lots of people questioning and calling this out.

I know HQ have become a little twitchy with the ban button lately, but from what I can see, they are allowing more than they used to in terms of trans.

So they are probably treading a fine line, but I suspect that line is getting slightly wider, given the sudden leaning towards criticism of trans in mainstream media, etc.

Gallavich · 17/02/2017 17:40

I'm not going to give HQ a hard time over this (silly as it is). They went through a very trigger happy phase but the Spartacus threads did herald a change and I respect and value them for allowing the discussion that they do. Most of my posts on that other thread are still there, despite calling him a man and saying that his gender issues are a result of MH not because he's a woman. They have a fine line to tread and usually come down with a lightish touch.

BarrackerBarma · 17/02/2017 18:04

Did you miss the MP webchat Gallovich?
8 posters suspended and radio silence for several days. Allowed back by promising not to 'barrack' or 'shout down.'
Really hard to abide by rules you didn't know existed.

Things haven't turned a corner since Spartacus IMO.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 17/02/2017 18:31

MightyMikey, I knew when I wrote it that it might be controversial. I described how AGP starts, from obsessive porn consumption, followed by cross-dressing and so on. I was fairly graphic, though accurate, and I used the word wanking. I suggested OP explore the Reddit subgroup asktransgender. I felt OP needed as much information as possible about AGP and how it might affect her Ex and her little DD.

Oh, and I warned her that some transwomen have been known to tell their DC that daddy is now mummy.

I tend to think that it's not the women reporting this behaviour that are at fault if it not a pretty picture.

MightyMikey · 17/02/2017 19:14

Thanks Prawn
Good to hear someone else's view which confirms what I know. I'm usually hounded out of all discussions re Trans. This is the only place I haven't been banned.

AGP is highly sexual and a part of it is to get away with as much as you can. They prey on the very liberal minded (which I pride myself on being).
In my case, with my partner, I have set boundaries that are set in stone and I have encouraged that a fetish is fine - as long as it is in proportion to the mundane life we all have to live. No special snowflake behaviour.

The OP in the thread will have a hard time as no one is counselling or talking sense to her ex. He is probably on a dopamine high where he cannot see the harm and hurt he is causing.

CharlieSierra · 17/02/2017 20:14

When did the webchat/banning happen? I missed it. Shock

PencilsInSpace · 17/02/2017 20:26

It was this thread, Charlie. We've got Harriet Harman coming on Monday.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/02/2017 20:30

Gallavich - someone on the webchat was banned for 'barracking' who posted once before and once after the webchat and not at all while the guest was there.
I am somewhat disillusioned about MNHQ after that tbh.

GinAndSonic · 17/02/2017 20:34

Sorry if I've missed something, what what does it mean to "barrack"?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 17/02/2017 20:55

In this case it was requesting answers to trans-related questions, including the definition of women, that Jess Philips and Flick Drummond didn't want to give.

Harriet may be just the same.

CharlieSierra · 17/02/2017 21:04

Gosh, I missed that one! They really didn't want to answer the questions did they. I'll check out the Harriet Harman one but won't hold my breath

CharlieSierra · 17/02/2017 21:07

Oh it's Monday, bugger. I miss all the fun, I really need to give up work!

PencilsInSpace · 17/02/2017 21:15

The bannings were unjustified but TBH I think MNHQ just panicked, as they did here with the surprise title edit.

People were asking questions respectfully but there were rather a lot of them on trans issues. The people who run this site care about their professional reputations as much as the rest of us. It's a risky thing for MNHQ to allow us to debate trans issues so openly and I can see why, having got 2 MPs to come on, ostensibly to talk about women and employment, they got a bit trigger happy.

There shouldn't have been bans though. It was lots of posters asking one or two questions each, nobody was 'barracking'.

I hope Harriet can say something about this topic - the equality act is mentioned specifically in the intro so I'm assuming we can ask about proposed changes to it. I also hope she gets a chance to answer questions on lots of other topics though, she has done a tremendous amount for women over the years.

TheHouseOfIllRepute · 17/02/2017 21:18

Does the title reflect the 7" surprise

KanyeWesticle · 17/02/2017 22:18

This is their own post on their own site. everydayfeminism.com/2015/10/biology-based-gender-myths/ This is an older post but remains. And makes a lot of sense. How on earth does that make sense if "male" and "female" are interchangeable. How do you qualify as "woman" in this study?

nauticant · 17/02/2017 22:40

I agree with these comments by PencilsInSpace. For a while any pressure to shift perspectives will seem pointless but it's a matter of time. Keep pressing in a sensible way and at some point there will be a sudden shift.

This thread (and previous ones) has convinced me to write to my MP. However, my experience from work tells me that to catch management's attention it's best to present a single slide with about 5 bullet points each being no more than 2 lines each. I'll be thinking about this over the weekend.

Glitteryunicorn · 18/02/2017 00:37

Slight derail - I've just been catching up on this and obviously also had to Google neo-vaginas curiosity killed the cat which led to a thread on reddit about how you can't possibly tell the difference between the two including them tasting and smelling exactly the same Confused

Including someone mansplaining that the two are so similar that they knew a lesbian who didn't even know her girlfriend was trans and that it was perfectly fine that aforementioned lesbian hadn't been told prior to any sexual encounter.

There was also another thread on what would happen to cis men and cis women if they took hormones or do they only work if you are "meant" to take them - so if you're a MtT then taking Estrogen makes you happy but if your a cis man and don't have the feelz it does nothing Hmm

Having had hormones my entire life taken the pill for over a decade and also undergone IVF I can say hormones have never made me manically happy.. manically full of rage maybe......what with my STEM career and love of all things tool based maybe my feelz are all wrong and I'm really a man Shock

Everytime I read something new it makes my head want to explode.

I think it's really worrying that a lot of women are ignorant to the erosion of their rights and by the time the majority wake up to it, it'll be too late.
I'm ashamed to say I've only just discovered the extent of the issues we are facing having read about it on here, I'd love to be able to write to my MP if he wasn't a misogynistic Dick who voted fore the tampon tax but I really don't think I could put it into the correct words.

Would anyone be willing to provide some kind of template for those of us who are less eloquent to send out?

Gallavich · 18/02/2017 06:53

Regarding the hormones - I've come off the pill recently and being mid 30s my body seems to be producing them in overdrive. For a week when my oestrogen levels are up I feel properly high. Incredibly sexual and confident, powerful and focused. then I get a crash and get filled with disillusionment when the progesterone kicks in. I can see how a man who has always run on testosterone would find that feeling interesting and addictive. It doesn't mean he's mentally female or anything- it just means he likes the effect of what is essentially a powerful drug.

Datun · 18/02/2017 08:05

Glittery

You could ask your MP to define the word woman for you.

And you could ask him if it is true that it is now unlawful for women to gather together in an official capacity in a woman only space, without the presence of someone born male, if that someone says so.

Because under discrimination law, it isn't.

And if self identification goes through on 24 February, any fucking man anywhere, claiming to be a woman can walk into your women only gathering and you cannot say no.

Datun · 18/02/2017 08:07
  • sorry, under discrimination law, it IS unlawful.

I have broken my silence on FB and started sharing stuff. You will lose a few friends - I have - but you will also wake up other women to what's going on.

Re the thread title, MNHQ asked if they could change it. TBH I wasn't delighted about it but would rather they changed it than took it down. I presume Everyday Transactivism is quite litigious and they might have wanted to avoid that.

OP posts:
Gallavich · 18/02/2017 09:53

Did MNHQ not realise the site isn't called everyday transactivism though
Like the 'ridiculous' bit is what they might object to

Glitteryunicorn · 18/02/2017 09:57

Thanks for the link it does set the argument out very fairly, I'd also like to share it on Facebook but I'm scared of the reaction but I suppose that's how they are getting away with it
