Do you think men can be feminists?

This may sound like a stupid question but do you think men can be feminists?

I've always thought they can be but I perhaps some radical feminists will disagree with me.

Men and women need to work together to solve our problems

I think Men can be feminists, I hope to raise my DS to be a feminist. That believes in equality and fairness.

If you believe in fairness and equality of people's choices and rights regardless of their sex, why would your own sex make a difference?

I'm not sure why you consider men being stronger on average and paying for sex sometimes problems, I don't understand your getting pregnant point, including prisoners more men get raped, men earn more because they work more, catcalling is undoubtedly annoying but I find it hard to belive it's humiliating, body shaming and domestic violence are problems but they aren't as one sided as you think. Also my point is I don't belive feminism is fixing these things which is why I'm no longer one

Particularly interested btw in anything you have that backs up your assertion that more men get raped than women if prison populations are included (and I'd ask again...by whom?)

No. I know lots of men who believe in feminism and who are feminist advocates. I just think that the name "feminist" does not apply to them. Feminist ally, or feminism advocate- just not feminist.

men earn more because they work more wrong, men earn more because "women's work" is invisible, unvalued whilst fundamental to a functioning society. Women are exploited for unpaid labour.

I think my lovely brother was the only male feminist I've ever met. He studied feminist theory and his PHD was on the maternal voice in literature. He would've been the first to admit his male privilege but his belief in feminism was absolute.

So it seems to me that if you believe a feminist is any person that advocates women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes. Then men can be feminists.

Whereas if you have some alternative definition including believing just the very presence of a Y chromosome then the recipient cannot be a feminist. actions obviously not being louder that genes.

Earlier I stated I was an advocate for equal rights for all, to which Sparrow asks DrMorbius I'm still curious as to how you would advocate for female rape victim.

Again, I'm struck by us all using "feminist" in different ways, and getting different meanings from it, so it's not surprising there's not consensus on how we use it. Maybe men that I might call feminists could only ever be feminist allies to others. I'm OK with that, I think, because I think we broadly agree, other than the word.

Fighting sexual violence is a huge part of feminism, dr. I'm quite surprised you haven't realised this, feminist or not. That's where the "fighting for equal rights" explanation fails to deliver - it doesn't address sexual violence or reproductive rights, but they're absolutely something that concerns feminism.

Ok you're not a feminist DrMorbius. So say a man was a feminist. How would he, in his role as advocate for women's rights, advocate for rape victims, given that rape is a massive women's rights/feminist issue?

Also I'm curious as to why you don't consider yourself a feminist DrM?
