Jenni Murray Woman's hour today (trans)

Hey,
Did anyone hear Jenni Murray on woman's hour today, her guest was India Willoughby. India is trans and was advocating that it was correct for the Dorchester to dictate that their female staff shave their legs.

India was very spiked in her conversation and implied Jenni was transphobic because the panalists didn't agree.

Again, a woman being called transphobic because they didn't agree with a transwoman's opinion.

Thank you Jenni for standing up for women!

.... yes, we need men, er I mean people who were assigned male at birth, but who are really women, to tell us ... Confused

BartholinsSister · 03/12/2016 00:59

transplaining ??

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/12/2016 01:05

transplaining ?? Grin GrinGrinGrin

Perfect!

Bambambini · 03/12/2016 01:17

"But you can't erase history. "

In Translandia you can!

someone used the word "absurd". Fantastic word to describe the current sky is green, earth is flat ideology. "Absurd" - perfect!

Xenophile · 03/12/2016 09:18

But

But

But

India's Youtube feed/Twitter is chock full of "Oooh, look at this thing I did when I was Jonathan, aren't I just ace" clips.

So, India is allowed to point out that until bloody recently they were male, but anyone else doing the same is twansphobic?

Right ho.

That wanting your cake and eating it is such a masculine thing, isn't it?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/12/2016 09:24

The Mirror has picked it up ...

HermioneWeasley · 03/12/2016 09:28

Sent a message. I've seen India has been on Twitter slagging off Jenni for "deadnaming" her. WTF????

BakeOffBiscuits · 03/12/2016 09:34

Good on the Mirror for picking it up, it's a shame some of the broadsheets haven't.

Just rereading the perfectly legitimate question Jenni put to India and then her reply, it makes me mad all over again. India is the hostile one, not Jenni Murry.

HumphreyCobblers · 03/12/2016 10:24

I have emailed too - thanks for the link

Datun · 03/12/2016 10:26

They have deleted all the comments which questioned her use of transphobia, etc. And only left the pro ones. Bloody hell.

HairyLittlePoet · 03/12/2016 10:48

India is going to have a double page spread in a national newspaper tomorrow.

Anyone who thinks that someone who can say "Why would I shave my legs as a MAN?" And also advocate that women who don't shave should lose their jobs should not be controlling the narrative, has only today to get this toxic person's opinions spread out across the Internet.

After tomorrow you know how this will go.

"Don't like it, get a job elsewhere". Transplaining at its finest. Clearly the kind of thing someone would say when they've grown up a privileged man.

QueenLaBeefah · 03/12/2016 11:04

India just seems to be a total dick.

Notwhatiexpected · 03/12/2016 11:05

Aggghhh!

I just don't understand why this is happening!?!?

How did we get to a stage in our society where cultural appropriation is bad, but gender stereotype appropriation is #brave.

If I were to decide, as a white woman, that I had always felt I was a black woman. Blacked up my face, started speaking "jive" then the world would, quite correctly, have my guts for garters for behaving in that way, presenting such an offensive stereotype.

AND then, if I were to spout out vile speach, telling black people that their views on their their cultural history and oppression were wrong, that they were outdated. If I were to suggest that I was the new black, they were cis black and racist. I would be seen to be a loon.

But this us exactly what us happening to us!!!

We are supposed to tolerate it because of our submissive soft tolerant feminine ways. Well sod that.

Is/us/spelling I typed angry.

India just seems to be a total dick.

How fitting!

Does anyone remember what the first name of the Jane Austen guy by the name of Willoughby was?

If an actual woman uttered such opinions, I'd be surprised, hurt and angry. With this person, I am just angry, not at all surprised.

It has always been men who wanted women to a) show our legs in the first place and b) mutilate our natural hair in such a way that shows our submissive position and is pleasing to their male gaze.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 03/12/2016 11:10

... it also reeks of class privilege.

ChocChocPorridge · 03/12/2016 11:17

I was curious about India, so I googled, and came across what was I presume part of her coming out promotion back in October in the Express - it ends thusly:

^Speaking of her hopes for further acceptance in the future she has said: “I would love being trans to be like having ginger hair or freckles.

“I am still the same person, I just look different on the outside."^

In India's own words all she's changed is how she looks.

Elendon · 03/12/2016 11:19

So this is a woman who has never gone through puberty, had periods or been anxious as a woman who has not done this. She has never given birth, or been anxious or happy with never doing this. She has never had the menopause, despite being 51 - does this mean that Loose Women will never discuss menopause?. Her being a woman is thousands of pounds worth of surgery and shaving legs. If only it were that easy India!

Elendon · 03/12/2016 11:21

'I just look different on the outside'. Objectification!!!!!!

PeteSwotatoes · 03/12/2016 11:21

But she puts make-up on and has tits, and that's all a woman is right?

Elendon · 03/12/2016 11:23

Willoughby's first name was John.

He was a cad.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 03/12/2016 11:26

Re dead naming did I. Willoughby spring full formed as an adult from the sea foam wafted by Zepyhr on to the shore on a large shell? Or sprung from the head of Zeus fully armed?

If by any chance my husband decided to use that Scottish tradition of adding "ina" to a boy's name to make it a girl's name that does not alter the fact I married x not xina ; x , not xina is my son's father ; and I have spent more than half my life with x , not xina.

Xina does not get to rewrite my history and my life.(Disclaimer this is a theoretical example)

Elendon · 03/12/2016 11:26

She also shaves her legs. That's very important Pete. Men don't do this. No never. If they do. They are women.

Twogoats · 03/12/2016 11:28

I hope the loose women put india in her place... I doubt they will though. Sad
