Trans media watch are lobbying mnhq

I know this has already been mentioned in the PL thread, but I thought it might be an idea to bring it to the attention of mners in a thread of its own.

After the PL debacle, there followed a thread in AIBU about toilet. On which this post appeared...
"I'm with you OP and I'm horrified by the transphobia on Mumsnet. I have done some work with Transmedia Watch who are trying to persuade MNHQ to treat transphobia as they would treat any other hate crime. I don't know what MNHQ have against the trans community or why they don't challenge the widespread belief that trans women are rapists in frocks who want to see fannies."

So, yeah, just letting you know that they are (allegedly) on the case with mnhq.

Well said, Math.

Great analysis.

genehuntswife · 19/11/2016 09:57

Guess what I've just discovered .... That.. I am Spartacus

ChocChocPorridge · 19/11/2016 10:21

Good post Math. Women and feminine men hiding together in the ladies isn't going to solve anything.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 19/11/2016 10:35

Welcome to the club, genehuntswife.

Brilliant posts mathanxiety

In case you haven't seen it, there is a fairly interesting thread going on at the moment about LGBT talks in schools. The thread has fast concluded that there is a massive distinction between genuine trans-people, and the bandwagon jumpers, predatory men, attention seeking type. The parents who think their children are transgender at age 2.

Datun · 19/11/2016 11:04

Because it's not just women, genuine trans people i'm getting thrown under the bus at the same time. There is a feeling of trying to disassociate themselves from the trans-activists, who are making all the demands and ruining it for everyone.

Since an extremely good but very critical poem about Donald Trump has just been moved to Classics, I'm assuming it's now ok to call a misogynist a misogynist.

DramaQueenofHighCs · 19/11/2016 12:33

After reading more posts on the thread:

Yes I can see that Trans activists could be damaging and are extreme. Those are not good people's or good examples of the trans movement. Extremists of Anythibg will always be a problem unfortunatly.

I still can't see why that means trans women can't use female toilets as they have cubicles. Men who are inclined to nolest women in toilets will still continue to do so whatever the 'rules'.

Datun · 19/11/2016 12:40

Men who are inclined to nolest women in toilets will still continue to do so whatever the 'rules'.

The problem with that is that more people who are allowed in under the rules, the higher the chance of a predator coming in.

If self identification is the only criteria, there is nothing to stop any one coming in.

Whilst we were all fine with the odd Tranwoman using our bathrooms, and have been for years, now you can expect a man with fully intact genitalia who is attracted to women, sharing the bathroom with your 11-year-old daughter. And the showers, or changing rooms, etc.

Kidnapped · 19/11/2016 12:45

What do you mean by 'trans women'?

What is a trans woman? Someone who has had surgery? Someone who takes hormones? Someone who wears women's clothes? Someone who has a penis?

Who decides what a trans woman is exactly? When is someone trans enough? Or not enough?

How can we tell the difference between a trans woman and a 'man inclined to molest women in toilets'?

venusinscorpio · 19/11/2016 12:48

Given that there aren't a lot of reasonable advocates of the trans movement in the media etc, I'd say these transactivists are good examples of the trans movement.

ChocChocPorridge · 19/11/2016 13:49

I still can't see why that means trans women can't use female toilets as they have cubicles. Men who are inclined to nolest women in toilets will still continue to do so whatever the 'rules'

Mens toilets have cubicles too - why can't they use those? Why do transwomen get to decide that men are too scary to share a toilet with (despite being biologically male themselves), but women can't feel the same way?

ChocChocPorridge · 19/11/2016 13:50

To follow on my thought - this is why I just don't believe it'a about just wanting to pee - because there are plenty of options for peeing that don't involve going into women's toilets.

It seems to me that it's more important that it's the women's toilet than that there are toilets to pee in.

LumelaMme · 19/11/2016 14:32

Also, DramaQueen, it goes beyond anyone-who-says-he-is-a-transwoman being allowed in the women's lavs. If anyone-who-says-he-is-a-transwoman is allowed in the women's lavs, why can't anyone-who-says-he-is-a-transwoman be in a female changing room, or a women's prison, or a women's refuge?

To reiterate: I have no problem with a post-op transwoman sharing the women's bogs. I have a massive problem with the idea that my fifteen year old could be assaulted in a women's changing room by a man who was able to wander in without being stopped because he 'identifies as a woman'. Men who push the boundaries like this, insisting that 'I am a woman because i say so and if you say I'm not you're a horrible transphobe' make the world a much harsher place for both the sort of post-op transwomen who redo their mascara in women's toilets, and women.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/11/2016 17:28

I think MN has very few genuinely transphobic posts, but I think it is becoming seen as a bit of a beacon for transphobia amongst TRAs

I think perhaps it could be useful for all if MN could give trans folk a voice via eg a webchat. I think k a webchat with say Miranda Yardley (gender critical transwoman) and Susie Green (CEO of Mermaids) could be very interesting, as well as good for MN in terms of offering a platform to a transwoman and/or a trans ally?

BeyondTheHarpy · 19/11/2016 18:56

I'd buy tickets for a joint webchat with those two!

venusinscorpio · 19/11/2016 18:57

Yes! Please please MNHQ?

SpartyMcsparticus · 19/11/2016 19:00

Absolutely superb analysis Math!!! And yes please to the web chat mentioned above Grin

The information Datun was given is correct re: cervical screening.

Hopefully there aren't any MtF's who are deluded enough to try and take the NHS up on the offer though.

^"If you are an MtF/trans woman aged 25 to 64 who is registered
with a GP as female, you will be invited for your smear test unless
you or your GP have already told us about your change of gender.
However, as you do not have a cervix, you will not need to be
screened. If this applies to you, let Cervical Screening Wales know.
We can update our records so you are not invited unnecessarily"^

HermioneWeasley · 19/11/2016 21:41

voodoo- that is absolutely bonkers and why medical records need to reflect sex not gender

VoodooPeople · 19/11/2016 21:42

Bugger it, I forgot to refresh this thread and I had it open for hours Blush The screening question has probably already been discussed.

Sorry!

HermioneWeasley · 19/11/2016 21:42

Biology is so mean and essentialist!
