Great music by women

This may not be the right place or forum for this thread but just in case: I feel music is far too dominated by men. What great songs are there by women? I know most of my favourite songs are by women, I'd love to hear more.

Are you just back in from a night on the town?

NoLoveofMine · 24/09/2017 01:11

Just back in, yes Grin

Just looking for a protector
God never reached out in time
There's love that is a saviour
But that ain't no love of mine
My Love it kills me slowly
Slowly I could die
And when she sleeps she hears the blues
Sees shades of black and white

is wonderful. Unfortunately she died very young.
NoLoveofMine · 24/09/2017 15:15

Thank you for posting that TheMaestro, shall listen to it all!

Don't think anyone's mentioned The Breeders. Stupendous for anyone who worships Hole.

DoctorTwo · 25/09/2017 07:53

Portions for Foxes by Kilo Riley is a song and a band I only heard a couple of weeks ago.

BartholinsSister · 25/09/2017 12:29

For something different, try Le Mystère Des Voix Bulgares.

NoLoveofMine · 25/09/2017 12:40

Thanks for the latest suggestions! I'll be looking up and listening to all of them Grin

Molly Drake mother of Nick Drake wrote and recorded songs at home. They were never meant for commercial publication. A limited edition set was issued and The Unthanks have now recorded them.

Already loving this from the first song, lovely voice. Thanks Lass!

NoLoveofMine · 01/10/2017 01:52

Ah I love this. Didn't know about Molly Drake before, wonderful.

Just discovered these two - couple of young girls who are doing dead interesting stuff.

QuentinSummers · 07/11/2017 19:35

Was listening to No Scrubs by TLC this morning, seems very appropriate for the times so thought I'd add it the thread. Plus it's a song that's probably older than you @noloveofmine

Agnetha Faltskog from ABBA is an amazing writer and singer! She released a song in 2013 called "When You Really Loved Someone" and it's really great!

Inspired by this thread I’ve switched on BBC 6 Music and just caught the end of Mary Anne Hobbs interviewing Björk! Fascinating even in the tiny snippets I heard. Will have to look for the whole interview on iPlayer. The second part of the interview will be broadcast on the show tomorrow, 7-10am

NoLoveofMine · 11/11/2017 10:05

Thanks for posting that Pansiesandredrosesandmarigolds, lots I need to endeavour to listen to on there.

Quentin thank you for the tip - you're right as well as I've just seen it was released the year before I was born! I'm listening now and most enjoying it.

SongsOfInnocencce that sounds excellent, I'll look it up on iPlayer once it's all been broadcast.
