1st thread here

MN has invited Paris Lee to speak at its Blogging event.

Meanwhile, actual women are being silenced.

Yeah I saw that before I hid the stupid thread
Poor MNHQ Sad

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/11/2016 21:57

Yup. I'm definitely sensing some sort of coordinated board invasion by people who can't spell, think critically, or communicate effectively

I really hope MNHQ act as they have been doing, remove posts against the guidelines, but accept that "transwomen are male" is not transphobic and should be allowed to stand.

DeviTheGaelet · 16/11/2016 22:00

I hope so too.
I don't think the "transphobia"/hate speech legislation has been fully tested so it's a scary position for them to be in.
The wilful misunderstanding of women's concerns as exemplified by Ross' post doesn't help either.

OlennasWimple · 16/11/2016 22:07

I was coming over to flag that post up too... Not surprising, useful to know though

ErrolTheDragon · 16/11/2016 22:30

why they don't challenge the widespread belief that trans women are rapists in frocks who want to see fannies."

maybe that'd be because MNHQ can read and know that isn't what any poster actually believes?

shinynewusername · 16/11/2016 22:31

Poor MNHQ

I'd feel a lot more sorry for them if they hadn't decided to poke the hornets' nest and validate hate speech against women by inviting PL to blogfest. If they think that will appease TAs, they are hopelessly naive - for every inch given, they demand a mile.

OP posts:
Datun · 17/11/2016 13:37

I hear a lot of posters say that mumsnet is the only safe place to be able to post about trans issues. Which as a forum, might be correct.

But the comments section of two recent articles on trans (Glamour and I think the Independent) had reams of comments which the TRAs classify as transphobic (you can't change sex, etc).

Many, many people saying just what gets said on here.

Maybe common sense is prevailing.

gleam · 17/11/2016 19:18

Still, at least blogfest is getting talked about, eh?

OlennasWimple · 17/11/2016 21:37

I am cheered by some of the comments on Pink News too - especially posters pointing out that the TRA ideology has a strong current of homophobia running through it

Datun · 18/11/2016 19:58

OlennasWimple

Thanks for that link. I do think the tide is turning.

0phelia · 19/11/2016 12:16

I'm cynical but surely they kept him on the panel purely for the publicity... making business sense?

MsGameandWatch · 19/11/2016 12:29

I don't feel sorry for MN at all. There's a larger than usual spate of bans at the moment for flimsy reasons and with extremely rude and vague emails being offered when asked for an explanation. In my opinion they're strategically blocking well known posters who push prolifically on the trans threads.

MsGameandWatch · 19/11/2016 12:30

post not push.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 19/11/2016 14:16

I'm confused about banning. I heard that this happened around the time of the Spartacus thread, but I'm not clear on who was actually banned - I.e how many people and were they allowed back? What leads to banning anyway?

Datun · 19/11/2016 16:25

YetAnotherSpartacus

There's a thread under 'site stuff' to do with banning. Justine has written a long post explaining.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/11/2016 16:45

Do we know if anyone was banned as a result of the PL debacle? I'm not aware of anyone MIA but it can be hard to spot an absence.

Twogoats · 22/11/2016 14:37

I just noticed that PL had an article in the Guardian yesterday... The BTL is pretty funny though!

(Can't link, on my phone)

Twogoats · 22/11/2016 14:43

Sugar! The article I just mentioned is 2 years old! Whoops, someone had sent it to me so I presumed it recent! Sorry guys!
