Call yourself a feminist? Our transgender columnist Juno Dawson's here to see if you really pass the test

And calls women who don't "TERFs". Thanks, Glamour and Jo Elvin, thanks a lot.

Is he suggesting that his experience as a male human with absolutely no possibility of pregnancy (but presumably the ability to father a child) is in any way comparable to the crushing agony of infertility??

Is anyone else reminded of Stan/Loretta in Life of Brian?

  • I want to have babies
  • You can't have babies
-don't you oppress me!
  • I'm not oppressing you Stan, you haven't got a womb. Where's the foetus going to gestate, you going to keep it in a box?
[...] -we will fight for your right to have babies, brother -what's the point if he can't have babies?
  • it's symbolic of our struggle against oppression
-it's symbolic of his struggle against reality
Everstrong · 04/11/2016 23:39

Ah Juno, if it looks like a turd, smells like a turd and was previously known as a turd, then it is a turd, even if you have rolled it in glitter. covered it in makeup, given it a wig and fed it some chemicals

JedRambosteen · 04/11/2016 23:46

From the comments under that article:

other major issue being brought up is that cis women need a safe space from the penis-havers. Listen, not to downplay your struggles but cis women are not the less privileged party in this equation

Shock

...there's a 14 year old on the thread! How on earth does she afford Glamour?

I am 14 years old and I accept LGBTQ+ people more than so many adults here. I highly doubt that most poeple here have ever experienced any of the hate and rejection that LGBTQ+ people have to go through.

Bless her, she seems not to be able to imagine that any of us yukky bigoted oldies are LGBTQ+ and have been so for two or three times the length of time she's existed in the world.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 05/11/2016 01:35

"What it boils down to is, am I somehow less of a woman? "

Yes.

Miffer · 05/11/2016 01:40

Well this has cheered me up no end. The comments section is deeply heartening. Articulate women using their real account (something I wouldn't be brave enough to do) calling this out.

shins · 05/11/2016 05:46

Amazed that the comments still stand too. If it was Pravda the Guardian, they'd be zapped in seconds.

YouHadMeAtCake · 05/11/2016 06:24

Pleased to see so much common sense in the comments. Juno makes me sick. As for the 14 year old supporter. Fake account. What is going on that such utter fucking shit is expected to be taken seriously. I am a woman and as I identify as one you must treat me as such and my demands must be met. Fucking stupid twat. Man man man man man.

FreshwaterSelkie · 05/11/2016 06:35

That complaint letter is great!

WelshMoth · 05/11/2016 08:21

Thank god for you lot - for articulating the rage I felt reading that rag.

I'm not so sure that the 14 year old is a fake account - I teach in a secondary school and the number of pupils who are incredibly vocal about this topic is breathtaking. When they arrived at the school, they were gay or bi and over-the-top sexually active about it too, yet as many of these same pupils reach 15 and 16 and they are pushing the trans activism lines.

It's frightening. It's like watching a horrifying trend unfold and being absolutely powerless to do anything about it.

The 14 year old supporting Juno is the same - churning out the same strap lines about accepting LGB's without actually realising that she is totally pissing over ALL women's rights. Her ignorance is staggering. And frightening. Our youth are incredibly vocal and powerful - the Next Generation. By the time they realise the realities of their sex, it'll be too late - they will have already paved the way for the MRA's.

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/11/2016 08:39

I reckon the 14 year old is genuine.

I think teens especially tend to see trans acceptance as being comparably to acceptance of homosexuality, so just like when we were teens and we thought older folk were bigoted for not being accepting of gay marriage or adoption, that's how many teens see older people who aren't drinking the kool aid. At first glance you can see why they conflate the issues but when you delve deeper they are really very dramatically different.

Mozfan1 · 05/11/2016 08:47

Dh read the article, his response?

'He's a wolf in Sheeps clothing'

marvelousdcomics · 05/11/2016 09:10

There's 2 14 year olds in the comments.

As for the article, I hate it. The comments are great though.

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 05/11/2016 09:16

What the fuck is this Glamour magazine? Isn't this the one who gave Bono and Caitlin Jenner Woman of the year? Is the editor trans or something? I have never read it and never will now.

I've got the rage re this article. Who actually believes this shit? I'm in the house on my own today and I have noone to rant to. Fucking fucking arsehole fucking stupid fucker.

BratFarrarsPony · 05/11/2016 09:26

The younger generation are unthinkingly 'right on' I am afraid. For example my friend's daughter who is 16 was subject to a barrage of 'you are transphobic' when she was the only one who said, no she did not want to be filmed at her school prom, because the BBC was interested in one trans person who would be there.
She had to be really brave to stick to her opinion.

Twogoats · 05/11/2016 09:31

Usually the free gift is good though... Although after this, the free gift better be fucking awesome!

HermioneWeasley · 05/11/2016 09:40

I haven't bought Glamour (or any women's magazines) for a while, but the stuff advertised in there is usually pretty high end, not within the reach of your average 14 year old.

I wonder who their advertisers want them to appeal to?

Geretrude · 05/11/2016 09:45

I think the 14 year old comments are all too real. I've read that thread about the 14 year old being bullied by her 'friends' for saying she's a lesbian so doesn't want to have a relationship with people with penises.

So much of this is homophobia and misogyny dressed up as political correctness. Teenagers have always kicked against the norms but with this, they get to feel really righteous at the same time

2kids2dogsnosense · 05/11/2016 09:48

So - as women achieve the same rights as men, men battle tooth and nail to maintain their dominant status - and if they means turning themselves into "women", then so be it.

Well - I suppose that none of us can deny that they are c*nts.

Cocolepew · 05/11/2016 09:50

juno has pissed off a lot of people

Cocolepew · 05/11/2016 09:55

I've just read through this thread - I can't see the comments section on the original article. Has it disappeared, or do I need to click somewhere on the page?
