Call yourself a feminist? Our transgender columnist Juno Dawson's here to see if you really pass the test

And calls women who don't "TERFs". Thanks, Glamour and Jo Elvin, thanks a lot.

That make up article makes me feel sick. What a grotesque parody of female experience these people peddle. It disgusts me.

I really hope Juno spends a lot of money on legal advice and court fees. I'm not sure one firm is enough to consult - I'd recommend he sees lots. Of really expensive firms, that way you're getting the best advice.

Oh yeah, I love and wear make-up. But the wisdom my female relatives passed to their daughters was stuff about surviving in a man's world; always earn your own money or have a secret stash just in case, never let a man mistreat you and so on. He has zero insight into genuine feminist wisdom because he has NO idea what being a woman is about. The arrogance is breathtaking.

I'd managed to banish that batshit crazy patronising make up article from my memory, but of course it's the same author

Maybe Juno's libel lawyer could also advise on the use of misogynistic hate terms at the same time?

My grandma (dead for over 30yrs) told me to get an education; have my own bank account and an escape fund. I genuinely can't remember her ever wearing makeup.

Trans women love makeup because it helps them pass. Their worst nightmare would be if women just stopped wearing makeup

His feminist make up tips include cosmetic surgery - as recommended by his barista. Because those are absolutely the sort of conversations women have with baristas. Hmm

that Twitter profile pic gives me the rage.
As though real women sit around doing campy things with their hands ,,,,,,
I have news for him - he looks like a drag queen.

These people seek to reduce women to a set of stereotypical behavioural tics (obsession with appearance, ludicrous parodies of "feminine" modes of speech etc). The fact they find such a willing audience I'm afraid indicates that our wider culture is entirely comfortable with this. God forbid we should ever have to think of women as serious human beings.
But that is the irony of the trans agenda. It does not challenge traditional thinking about gender at all. It supports and promotes it.

Those of us who can't get pregnant - less of a woman?

What the fuck?!
Is he suggesting that his experience as a male human with absolutely no possibility of pregnancy (but presumably the ability to father a child) is in any way comparable to the crushing agony of infertility??
That article made me feel sick, the ignorance, the misogyny, the arrogance and clear male entitlement... Angry

Wonder if Juno is getting their legal advice about libel from their barista too Lynda

Glamour is certainly starting to come across like the staff hate women. Ho hum...

Wearing make up has nothing to do with being a woman. It's an optional extra for everyone. Take David Bowie and Grayson Perry for example - both big fans of make up but with their heads screwed on enough to know that that does NOT make them a woman.

I am a huge make up fan and am never without it - that makes me no more or less of a woman than any other woman. It's pathetic and deeply insulting that some people think all there is to being a woman is make up, nails, heels and campy hand gestures

I have never seen my mum in makeup, would totally freak me out! She gave me advice on pregnancy, periods, breastfeeding, you know, women stuff! I'm just astounded that Glamour believe and stand by Juno and are happy to piss all over hundreds of women who are tweeting and "liking" the tweets saying that Terf is a slur. I do wonder whether this is an intentional act by Glamour to shed the older readers of Glamour and satisfy new younger female readers who seem to think this article is "wonderful".

Just had a look at Glamour's Twitter account. Whoever is running that today is really not doing themselves or the magazine any favours.

I know I'm only one person, but there's absolutely no way I'll be buying that rag again.

Lynda, is your shit not all sparkly and glittery and smelling of Chanel No 5? You are obviously not a real woman!!!

I cancelled my Glamour subscription over this tool. The first article on how women have it easy because they don't have the difficulty of choosing their own name. Now obviously being harassed in the streets because I happen to have breasts, being assaulted in clubs because I left the house in possession of a vagina, being told to stop being difficult because I was asking for pain relief whilst pushing a person out of said vagina is obviously nothing compared to having to choose your own fucking name. Oh and the editor didn't give a shit when I emailed to point out why I would never buy their magazine again.

Methinks Kat needs a dictionary for christmas - "A woman is anyone who honestly identifies as one"

No, love. Words mean something.

That Matt Van Gonten is a fucking idiot. And a pompous one. Like hell are transwomen more likely to be sexually assaulted than women. Clueless mansplaining twat.

I've heard this fantasy girlhood bollocks before. My mum taught me zip about feminine practices, no make up, hair, fashion advice. No conversations about boys, or shaving my legs or contraception. She did show me how to use Sanpro but that was it. I worked some of it out for myself some of it I still have no clue about and muddled (incompetently) along into womanhood. I can't imagine I'm alone in this.

Not only that but I find the notion that my role as a mother to my daughter and the wisdom I have to offer whilst "sitting round the fire"is defined and reduced to make up tips, kind of insulting.

Not that women can't teach their daughters femininity, I would help my daughter if she asked, I just don't see it as as important as teaching her about bodily autonomy, or financial independence and management, or how to take care of her emotional well being and not to become a people pleaser nor a selfish arse.

I honestly don't care if Glamour decides to work with an identity based idea of who their audience is. They're always going to be a magazine for people who want to perform feminity anyway - plenty of transwomen will be more interested in all that stuff than I am.
Just, I wish they would dial back on the fucking misogyny. It is perfectly possible for them to include transwomen without being hateful to women at the same time.

Entirely agree countess. Plus they should stop calling themselves a magazine for women. They are a magazine for femininity performers -,what we used to call drag acts, in fact

I saw Grayson Perry once at the Clinique counter in John Lewis, Oxford Street, in full dress, wig and heels, buying makeup and thought 'bloody good for you, darling!'. He looked fabulous. Big fan but as another poster said, he never claims to be a woman or would claim to know more about feminism than a female.

Report
KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 04/11/2016 21:28

Grayson perry was on the news this evening being interviewed by that a hole James naughtier who suggested he must have insight into the experience of being a woman because he sometimes dresses like one. In the nicest possible way perry indicated that was bollocks.
I am increasingly loving him I must say
