I think Mumsnet has already removed any derogatory transphobic comments on here.

What remains are a lot of interesting conversations and exchange of boths facts and opinion on a really important issue. If Jane Fae doesn't like those conversations remaining on here, that says a great deal more about her than it does about Mumsnet.

So, did you have her permission to publish her first name here?

almondpudding · 29/10/2016 15:07

Hugh, your post speaks volumes about Mermaids, that you are revealing personal information about a minor. I will be reporting your post.

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 29/10/2016 15:10

Hugh you have seriously crossed a line there. I've reported your post and hope MNHQ take it down quickly.

kua · 29/10/2016 15:14

Almond totally agree. Mermaids came on here to out a member and their child yet had the cheek to talk about taking data protection seriously.

Bloody hell. What kind of organisation is this? !

iPost · 29/10/2016 15:15

Thank you Hugh.

Always good to have screenshots (that can allow for real names to be redacted) to demonstrate the nature of a charity that (thanks to you) now looks like it goes for unlovely tactics like

-"we know who you are" overtones to try and shut a critical former user down.

-what looks like an attempt to intimidate a critical former user of a charity via a deliberate partial outing (first name) leaving the threat of a full outing hanging in the air.

I didn't think my view of this charity could fall any lower, but you surprised me.

ageingrunner · 29/10/2016 15:16

Really? They outed someone? 😮

ArcheryAnnie · 29/10/2016 15:17

Woah - what the hell happened there? I mean, it took me five minutes of googling to find a film of someone I am reasonably sure is the mother in question, after Fox Fisher wrote that terrible article. But posting a name outright is not so much crossing a line as talking a marching band over it, then digging the line up, then setting fire to the landscape.

Datun · 29/10/2016 15:19

What a prat ! Talk about proving a point !!!!

kua · 29/10/2016 15:38

hugh

Unlawful disclosure( where it is considered to be a malicious breach) is a criminal offence . Data protection act 1998 section 55 subsection 1.

From the excellent Transparency Project article: "Mr Baker tells me that M is also interested in speaking publicly about the issues presented by those experiencing gender dysphoria. She has the inviolable right to do so. Her right to speak about her son however, has to be balanced against J’s own rights. This for me is not a delicate balance, the predominance of J’s right is both pressing and clear. I am accordingly prepared to grant the restrictive order sought by the parties, save the mother and Associated Newspapers Limited, preventing her from speaking about any aspect of ‘gender dysphoria or gender identification’ in so far as these relate to J. For the avoidance of doubt the restriction extends, as seen from the wider terms of the order, to prohibiting the mother from broadcasting or publishing any detail of J’s life which might identify him as the child subject to these proceedings".

The Judge said authorities did not act appropriately upon concerns raised about M. Mermaids also prevented other concerns being taken seriously when a concern about M exposing J to the media were raised by one of their own committee.

tubasinthemoonlight · 29/10/2016 16:05

Now I'm concerned that I am the "critical former user" of the charity mentioned by ipost

Hoping someone can confirm whether it was me.

There are people from that time who still have the full email history from when committee members were thrown out for raising concerns. So there is proof.

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 29/10/2016 16:09

You were tubas the person gave details of your child's medical history and your first name.

iPost · 29/10/2016 16:12

tubas

PM me if you want the screenshot. I grabbed it so you wouldn't be left in the dark.

LoveMyPatio · 29/10/2016 16:13
Shock
almondpudding · 29/10/2016 16:13

It was deleted extremely quickly, Tubas. I don't think many people will have seen it.

HermioneWeasley · 29/10/2016 16:14

Well Mermaids have just shown what an unethical bunch they are - nothing matters in their bid to recruit youngstwes

ageingrunner · 29/10/2016 16:16

So sorry they did that to you tubas. I didn't see it if that's any consolation, and I spend a LOT of time here, so it must have been deleted quickly Flowers

ageingrunner · 29/10/2016 16:18

The threat of outing for anyone who speaks against them has been made explicit by this though hasn't it? Very frightening

JedRambosteen · 29/10/2016 16:21

What a fucking disgrace! Glad other posters were quick off the mark to both report and screenshot.

JedRambosteen · 29/10/2016 16:22

I didn't see it either BTW.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 29/10/2016 16:23

I didn't see it Tuba and I've been faffing around here most of the afternoon.

If you feel up to it you could report this to both the Charity Commission and the Data Protection Commissioner.

LoveMyPatio · 29/10/2016 16:28

Was it an official mermaids post though, or just a member posting without thinking? I'm not sure data protection or the charity commission could really do anything if it was unofficial.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 29/10/2016 16:34

True, but if it was not an official posting where did the poster get Tuba's details from ? Did he have ccess to their data ?
