.....and those phrases had been reported.

If that was true, the Court of Appeal would not have quashed the original conviction.

scallopsrgreat · 14/10/2016 16:53

Sorry WomanWithAltitude said that first!

IndominusRex · 14/10/2016 16:54

My ex was abusive. Without any shadow of a doubt he would testify against me as a character witness with or without a £50k bribe under these circumstances.

AristotlesTrousers · 14/10/2016 16:54

Another one here very angry (but not surprised) at the verdict. I really, really want to do something that will make our voices heard.

AyeAmarok · 14/10/2016 16:56

I really hope there is a public outcry about this travesty.

category12 · 14/10/2016 16:56

So fucking depressed. Sad

PinkissimoAndPearls · 14/10/2016 16:58

I think any action should be a "group" action. We could, and probably already do, individually donate to Womens' Aid and Rape Crisis/local centres/refuges, but I would dearly like some sort of group action or movement making it clear that it is in direct response to this travesty of justice. If nothing else, to send a signal to the victim that we stand by her and support her, and that women want to make their voices heard that this is not justice.

BeyondPolkadots · 14/10/2016 17:00

God yes, imagine the number of abusive exes there are just from us here, who would gladly sell us down the river for a fiver, never mind £50k :(

Felascloak · 14/10/2016 17:00

The judge in this trial did not allow the prosecution to bring up that Massey had contacted witnesses.
It's a fucking travesty.
I said on the other thread I will be writing to my MP and the Attorney General plus any other relevant parliamentarians to ask them to look at tightening the law so men have to demonstrate reasonable steps to ascertain consent.
I cannot believe that this case persuaded a just that Ched evans had reasonable belief in the consent of someone he never even spoke to. It's disgustingly.

BeyondPolkadots · 14/10/2016 17:00

I agree pink. I want her to be able to see the ground swell, to know we all believe her

SomeDyke · 14/10/2016 17:01

Given that Women Against Rape were quoted on the Guardian story, I've just found them online and made a donation.

Might I suggest that others do the same, a flood of money just after this verdict would give them a nice pounds-shillings-pence quantifiable women are really angry over this line. If they could say -- we have received an extra however many individual donations immediately after the verdict?

Plus I had to do something, like many of us here, I feel very angry over this, whilst in my younger days I might have thrown stuff or graffitied, now at least I can donate some dosh that might help. Whilst trying to think what else can we do.............

scallopsrgreat · 14/10/2016 17:02

The justice system isn't for women.

TheDuchessOfKidderminster · 14/10/2016 17:03

I am shocked - not really that the jury found him guilty, but that the retrial was allowed at all. I don't see why her sexual history is a legitimate reason to quash the original conviction. If anyone could enlighten me...

Interesting analysis on The Guardian:

www.theguardian.com/society/2016/oct/14/campaigners-fear-evans-case-will-stop-women-reporting

TheDuchessOfKidderminster · 14/10/2016 17:03
  • not guilty
GiveMeRitz · 14/10/2016 17:03

Felascloak, I'm not very eloquent, if you email the Attorney General is there any chance you could share it so that others can do the same?

Felascloak · 14/10/2016 17:04

Not true cadno see this mirror article from 2012
www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/ched-evans-and-clayton-mcdonald-rape-798633

Felascloak · 14/10/2016 17:05

Yeah, if people pm me I will send them c&p of my email and who I've sent it to. Might take me a week to do it though.
Best if you tailor it slightly otherwise your MP might ignore it.

CeeBeeBee · 14/10/2016 17:06

Well that's it then. Absolutely no pint in reporting a rape unless you were a virgin beforehand and dressed from head to toe in a sackcloth and it was committed by someone jumping out of a bush in broad daylight. Sad How is this allowed?

user1466690252 · 14/10/2016 17:07

I think its the right verdict. He didnt do it. The police pushed a case that wasn't there..

HeavenlyEyes · 14/10/2016 17:07

I cannot understand how this could be possible. My daughter didn't go to the police as she thought nobody would believe her - seems she was right. What kind of world do we live in that this could possibly happen.

user1466690252 · 14/10/2016 17:07

Oh christ just realised its on feminism. Ill back off now then...

GiveMeRitz · 14/10/2016 17:08

Thanks Felascloak no point in me emailing my MP, he's most likely tweeting about drunk sluts etc.

cadnowyllt · 14/10/2016 17:10

Felas Thank you. I take it all back - I had no idea the phrase had been made public.

AyeAmarok · 14/10/2016 17:13

We often joke that the only rapes that have a chance of a conviction are those rare occasions where a stranger jumps out of a dark alleyway.

Here we have a stranger breaking into a dark hotel room and immediately penetrating a very drunk woman without saying a word to her.

But that's not enough to make it rape.

So. Fucked. Up.

Elendon · 14/10/2016 17:16

So the facts:

A £50,000 reward for new information requested by Massey via Facebook.

Two new witnesses describing that they had drunken sex with the victim before and after the event and that the victim had used a phrase also used in the night in question.

End.

Now there are those arguing that she also had no recollection of what happened after sex with the two new witnesses. Is this also right? If so how was this established?
