New anti-trans legislation in North Carolina

Of course it's been driven by the religious right wing. But it does aim to achieve what many posters here appear to advocate - namely that biological males can only use men's toilets and changing rooms etc. Biological females must only use women's toilets and changing rooms. Will it gain wider support?

What does being gay have to do with it? Gay people keep their sex and no one has any idea they are gay on appearance only, plus many trans pass acceptably.

A man wearing a dress and sporting a beard, has to campaign to be able to use the men's toilet without harassment or intimidation.

SlowFJH · 26/03/2016 09:27

Thank you RiverTam. I will get in touch with Alex Drummond and let him know that his image has been misappropriated on Mumsnet for the purposes of stoking up irrational and unfounded fears that TW ("with beards and penises") are conducting gynaecological examinations on women.

It's a bull shit lie and you know it. But you use it to further demonise and attack a tiny and severely repressed minority that you happen not to like.

MrsTerryPratchett - you claimed that "rape crisis centres have been sued for not hiring trans women". Again - can you please provide actual evidence of this? Which rape crisis centre? Who was the plaintiff?

Or was this also a deliberate lie to incite fear and hatred?

These techniques are straight out of the play book of hate groups that want to blame and vilify a minority group for crimes they have never committed.

Evidence of rape crisis centres being sued:

Vancouver rape crisis centre, sued by Kimberley Nixon

Elendon · 26/03/2016 09:30

Slow. If a person with a beard, wearing a hijab wanted to go into the women's section in a mosque, would they be allowed?

the hardest part of being a woman (apart from deciding what to wear, obvi!) is the fact that no one ever believes you regarding your own oppression- overwhelming proof is required, and even that is rarely enough

slow you should educate yourself about transactivism before coming on here telling women they should feel shame. You clearly know nothing about the subject. You are also inconsistent as to whether you believe there should be any segregation of men and women. You are a joke. An entitled, gaslighting joke.

crappymummy · 26/03/2016 09:37

imagine how much it will have cost a rape crisis centre to be involved in litigation for 12 years

imagine thinking that you have the right to force yourself on women who don't want you there

Imagine imagine imagine

Elendon · 26/03/2016 09:41

Cote. I doubt very much that would happen, even if she identified as female. She would be given a different section and refused entry to the women's section, or politely asked to leave.

SlowFJH · 26/03/2016 09:41

Slugs
"Actually we do this by making them do CRB checks". We do indeed. This is to protect children from convicted sex offenders. We do not impose a blanket ban on all people (of a particluar class) who have never committed a crime just because they have the "potential" to. That is prejudice and bigoted.

Care to answer my question SLOW?

crappymummy · 26/03/2016 09:46

realistically, nothing will stop Trans women getting access to wherever they want

when this happens, it won't be because it is a blow for equality, it will happen because it fucks over women

FreshwaterSelkie · 26/03/2016 09:46

Come on then, Slow, can we have your thoughts on the case in Vancouver please? The one that you said was made up to incite fear and hatred?

That awkward moment when mansplaining goes wrong...

crappymummy · 26/03/2016 09:47

Slowfjh can't even be arsed to address the case of a transwoman suing a rape crisis centre to validate her womanhood, something she insisted was fiction

We see you.

JAPABImTheOneWhoKnocks · 26/03/2016 09:52

crappymummy You are right that we can call H2O whatever we like, water, cis water, trans water, unwater.

Yes, or we can decide that the label "water" denotes H2O exclusively, or refers to H20 plus other referents. Or that it will become used to denote something else altogether. We make this all up. There is nothing set in stone, or handed down to us by God, which says that any one word in the English language has to mean anything. And yet people still talk about the "arrogance" of some thinking we can redefine what some particular words means away from what some humans originally made them up to denote.

kua · 26/03/2016 09:54

Dignity, privacy and safety are crucial in the effective treatment and care of mental health and disability service users. Therefore guidance on same-sex accommodation for mental health services places added responsibility on providers of treatment and care. In addition to providing same-sex sleeping areas and bathrooms, women-only lounges should be made available in new and refurbished buildings. There is no clinical justification for mixed-sex sleeping areas. - See more at: www.institute.nhs.uk/delivering_same_sex_accommodation/what_is_same_sex_accommodation/policy_and_guidance.html#sthash.cY2SyeTL.dpuf

Slow feel free to go and rant at the NHS for their policies and procedures.

I hope you will do Alex Drummond the courtesy of using her preferred pronoun if you contact her to let her know her image was posted.

feel free to call hydrochloric acid water then, and drink it- good luck

it won't matter, because anything is anything, names are meaningless, and everything means whatever anyone wants it to

as long as you give it a pleasing name, I'm sure it'll be thirst quenching- bottoms up!

HermioneWeasley · 26/03/2016 09:59

kua unfortunately that policy is not applied to TW. I read a heartbreaking story recently by a woman who has been sectioned. Her delusions include the fact that men are trying to harm her - she's not able to be around her husband or dad. She's on a ward with no locks on loos or showers for safeguarding reasons.

A 6'4" TW was brought into the bay with her and she freaked out, but was told that he had every right to be there.

It's unbelievable, but it is happening.

slow I was discussing the issue or self identification with a Muslim friend who lives in a Muslim country. She was astonished. Her comment was along the lines of "I'd like to see them try that here!". The implication was the the response would be......robust.

crappymummy · 26/03/2016 10:03

it is a moot point

for women, there are no safe spaces

anyone can do whatever they like to you with impunity
