Ooh ooh! Do I get to start it?

Wine and cake all round. And a celebratory burst on the patriarchy-blasting cannon!

Old pub here

The thing about the Olympics is that P&G seems to have piped up again with their "Proud Sponsor of Mums" bollocks. I bloody hate the bastards.

(And no fan of Olympics but each to their own. :) )

Robot Wars: Judge Lucy Rogers referred to animatron dinosaur as "she". Dara O'Brien: "You know it's a she then?" Judge: "Half of dinosaurs were female". In your face, Dara. As the kids would say.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 10/08/2016 08:46

(Actually I don't know what "In your face" means, but DC seem to use it to express some sort of triumph. Is it rude? Should I stop them? I am clueless with this youth-speak.)

Xenophile · 10/08/2016 10:51

It's not particularly rude, and makes you sound dahn wiv da yoof Grin

Felascloak · 10/08/2016 11:33

Just read a BBC article about sexual harassment at work
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-37025554

Really interesting except for the last paragraph of anecdata about how men get harassed too.
Why do that?! So annoying

NeverEverAnythingEver · 10/08/2016 12:12

It's in the interest of balance, Felascloak Wink

paddypants13 · 10/08/2016 14:46

Anyone seen the video of the young woman who transitioned at 17 and detransitioned at 22. Very interesting. There's a thread in chat about it with the link and Magdalen Berns has posted the link on FB too.

Felascloak · 10/08/2016 18:54

I'm a bit in love with Ms Lynch now! Calling a thing a count back. Awesome Grin

Felascloak · 10/08/2016 18:55

A thug a cunt back. Sorry!

RattataPidgeyRattataPidgey · 11/08/2016 00:21

Barging in here, but I'm still annoyed at my uncle asking me why I got married if I wasn't going to be a Mrs at my fucking wedding party a few weeks ago. Cba posting in AIBU because I'm not quite THAT bothered. But still. Yeah, why did I bother getting married? I'm still a Ms now, what a big old waste of time, eh?

Xbblcjr · 11/08/2016 07:07

Felascloak - I guess it mentions that men get harassed too because they get harassed too?

Felascloak · 11/08/2016 07:41

rattata how annoying! Congratulations on the wedding.

AskBasil · 11/08/2016 08:15

But it's irrelevant to the main story xbblwhatever.

When there's a story about cruelty to donkeys and the need for more sanctuaries, journalists don't feel the need to remind their readers that cats get abused too.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 11/08/2016 08:38

Ratata I don't get why people are so invested in the "Mrs" title either.

I took my car to the garage this week and they had me down as Mr. Hmm

Quite why your sex or marital status is important to a garage I can't really fathom.

Xbblcjr · 11/08/2016 08:41

Askbwhatever - so my experiences as a make being sexually abused at work are not relevant? If there was a piece purely on male sexually harassment you would be OK with that?

AskBasil · 11/08/2016 08:57

I think it's fine to do a piece on sexual harassment of males at work that contextualises the problem as being one that happens very rarely to men in contrast to women.

I don't think it's necessary to always mention other groups that this thing happens to, without contextualising it. An observation that "cats get abused too", in the context of an article about donkey sanctuaries, is just pointless. An observation that "cruelty to animals is a big issue and of course donkeys are not the only victims - cats, dogs, newts etc. are also victims of human cruelty to animals and the causes and solutions are the same/ different from those applied to donkeys; however we will focus on donkeys for this article as that's what we're talking about right now."

D'you see?

The conversation doesn't always have to include all groups affected by an issue, however whiny and entitled they may be and however used they are to hearing their voices centred in all discussions about every topic ever.

HTH

AskBasil · 11/08/2016 08:58

To be clear: your experiences as a male sexually harassed at work are not relevant to an article about the enormous level of sexual harassment men inflict on women in the workplace.

They are absolutely relevant to an article about the very rare cases of men being accused in the workplace.

Mmmmkay?

erinaceus · 11/08/2016 10:14

RattataPidgeyRattataPidgey

Congratulations on your marriage!

What was the best thing about your wedding party?

I hope that it was not your Uncle's comment.

I took my car to the garage this week and they had me down as Mr.

This happened to me, with a utility bill. In a way, the experience made me less hung-up about my title.

I did get it corrected though Blush.

Felascloak · 11/08/2016 10:40

xbblcjr thanks for the observation Biscuit

NeverEverAnythingEver · 11/08/2016 10:54

xbb I'm sorry that you have had such a bad experience. If you start a thread on men being subject to harassment at work I'm sure you will get a lot of support.

I for one would like to keep at least this thread for friendly supportive discussion on things that affect women.

MatildaOfTuscany · 11/08/2016 11:12

Congrats on getting married, rattata! (And ignore dinosaur uncle - what a weird thing to say! Because of course the only reason for getting married is to change one's title.)

erinaceus · 19/08/2016 07:00

Friday again! Hurrah!

I am not at the pub yet, but I am having a morning coffee.

Last night I went to an event which served some sort of ginger-based sparkling-non-alcoholic-cocktail-thing. It was so nice to have a celebratory non-alcoholic drink and not feel as if I was being pretentious or holier than thou by not drinking something alcoholic. Some days, I choose not to drink, and it is shit to be in spaces where I worry that people will assume that I am either pregnant or trying when I order something non-alcoholic.

Anyway, I am having my coffee, as I said, and looking forward to another of these ginger-sparking-non-alcoholic-things in the treehouse-with-the-cannon-and-the-goat when I get home from work tonight. I do not know about anyone else, but for me, it has been a long week.

PMT sucks. Me too.

No coffee here, out of milk. I'm drying my hair as I type to take DC out for brekkie (to a soft play cafe - eek!)

I could do with a Friday hang out if it's ok to pop in?. My DC go to STBXHs for the next couple of nights and I hate it. Even though I'm happy they're having a good time etc.

Erinaceus that ginger drink sounds lovely. I love your cheerful hurrah. I am trying to find a new cheerier way to approach the weekend

FreshwaterSelkie · 19/08/2016 11:53

Happy Friday, everyone!

It's sunny here, which I like and I'm in the garden eating panzenella for lunch. The only blot on the horizon is that I have to go to the hairdressers this afternoon, which I loathe. I only go when I can't see out from under my fringe any more Grin. Will reward myself for my bravery with wine when I get home.

JacquettaWoodville · 19/08/2016 12:33

Chicken passabda for lunch here!
