Are there any forms of consensual behavior that would 'disqualify' someone from being a feminist?

Do you exclude Blair from socialism because he did not serve the wishes of the proletariat/working class? I think the history of socialism shows that Blair would not be alone among socialist politicians for such behaviour.

If Stalin and Pol Pot can be socialists, then I think so can Tony Blair. Wink

not to give my handbag, or the baby, to a stranger to hold. As you do.

I have twice been handed a baby by total strangers. Once was at a wedding, so clearly we knew the happy couple in common, but we'd never met each other. The second time was on a flight, so I could hardly have done a runner, but still... I obviously look very sensible and trustworthy.

Tony Blair wasn't a socialist and did his best to disassociate from 'socialism' to win votes New Labour not that scary old socialist labour.

minkGrundy · 26/03/2015 00:15

So we (the mn femborginists)have declined to answer the OP vague question but we are quite clear on when a socialist does something so unsocialist they are barred- when they turn into Tony. Grin knew he was a wrong un as soon as he removed Dear Comrade from the party missives

Anniegetyourgun · 26/03/2015 00:29

Well it wasn't me, EBearhug. Did you give them back?

EBearhug · 26/03/2015 00:53

I certainly did give them back. I wasn't in a position to take on that sort of expense. Especially not when travelling.

vesuvia · 26/03/2015 00:53

I know Tony Blair may not be regarded by many people as a socialist, particularly those close to "old" Labour, but many influential socialists did welcome him, as a socialist, at the Socialist International Congress of 1999, for example.

vesuvia · 26/03/2015 01:12

I wouldn't be surprised to find people in Australia who say, "well, that Julia Gillard, she was certainly no socialist", or people in France who say "Mitterand - a socialist? No way!" Grin

bigmouthstrikesagain · 26/03/2015 08:17

Put it this way Blair was more influenced by Capitol hill than Das Capital. Grin

violetwellies · 26/03/2015 13:10

I think The had more in common with his immediate predecessor in no.10 than with socialists of the time. He certainly sought to distance himself (and the party) from Socialism in order to get elected.

The?? Damn autocorrect (again) TB

We could have told you that, Buffy. I missed what candy said though, so I have missed just how ground-shaking his/her thoughts are, so I can't change my philosophy accordingly . [bereft]

SolidGoldBrass · 01/04/2015 11:41

I would say that being involved in anti-abortion activism sort of excludes you from being percieved as a feminist by most feminists, definitely by me.

Mind you, whenever some mere man starts wagging his finger about how feminists disagree with one another and this means feminism is broken I find myself obliged to point out that disagreements over doctrine and policy among left-wing men not only lead to the forming of rival factions but very often to physical violence and even murder. Feminists who disagree tend to stick to unfollowing each other on Twitter, on the whole.

Anniegetyourgun · 01/04/2015 11:45

Yeah, vicious buggers, those feminists.
