House, I think I would stay but i would start the concrete background steps now if I hadn't already - update my CV, research new firms, do a bit if networking, do any training is possible, talk to recruiters etc.

It sounds like you have a sensible plan in place, House. I understand the frustration of having your life on hold - I'm there too at the moment, though for different reasons. But as you say, each step you take towards putting things in place for your New Improved Life helps you to feel a bit less helpless and stagnant.
