Feminist Pub 15: The Bluestocking hangs up its, err, stocking and hopes for a chatty Christmas and a Feminist New Year

Festive greetings!

This is the 15th incarnation of the Pub and is meant as a place to drop by with random thoughts and meandering chats, on feminist or other related themes. Anything you want to mull over but not necessarily start a thread about. Alternatively, get some booze and snacks and hang out! Lurkers, newbies and oldbies welcome.

We have a pub goat, a feminist cannon for firing at crazy sexists and we cheer each other up when patriarchy grinds us down...

I made a Christmas tree skirt for my daughter from one of her prom dresses (with her permission, of course).

EBearhug · 07/01/2015 13:01

For a moment, I was imagining a green dress with many ruffled layers and sparkly adornments - which might be good for a fancy dress party, but cruel for a prom (as I was imagining it.)

SconeRhymesWithGone · 07/01/2015 13:53

My daughter's dress was a deep red with a ball gown skirt and crinoline underneath (it was the early 90s). I went a bit OTT with the tree skirt, adding a ruffle and sparkly bits. My granddaughter likes to wear it for dressing up.

I am a SAHM and only this week did the youngest start to sometimes take a 1 hour nap at home. No, I don't have masses of time to do whatever drossy jobs need volunteers.

BriarRainbowshimmer · 08/01/2015 17:10

Did MNHQ just troll everyone with that 50 shades of abuse grey post? I'm not amused.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 08/01/2015 17:12

I am staying off most of MN atm. What happened?

Hmm

is all I can say to that thread.

UptoapointLordCopper · 08/01/2015 18:26

LOL. Only scanned a few posts on that thread but I thought posters gave MNHQ what they thought about it.

Not interested in either book or movie. Don't find creepy serial killer type sexy either. What is sexy these days is people who listen.

Penguins Are you saying you are not writing 3 novels and 5 screenplays during your "time off"? Shock I did. Hahahahahahaha.

I'd love to swap marking with you Buffy. Grin How do you fancy a load of year 11 maths mocks? They all make the same mistakes, and I shout at them all in my head as I'm marking because I know how many times we've practiced those types of questions. Angry Never mind, we've still got a few months to improve their grades. Smile Smile

JeanneDeMontbaston · 08/01/2015 20:15

A marking swap would be brilliant. Grin

buffy, I'd love to see what your students write. And you could be all learned about epistemology with mine. I'd teach everyone else's students to use 'I' in academic essays, and to reject the premise of the question in deeply pretentious language. 'In conclusion, I argue that we should neither integrate, nor differentiate, since the curve offers a graphic representation of possibility of creating order from seeming disorder of numbers and letters on the page ...'.

UptoapointLordCopper · 08/01/2015 20:51

Some of my students are very creative with their mistakes. There are some interpretations of English and Mathematics that I would never have thought of in a million years.

Watching Strong Poison thing on telly. Silly man, proposing to someone being tried for murder.

JeanneDeMontbaston · 08/01/2015 20:52

Strong Poison, as in, Sayers?! Ooh!

UptoapointLordCopper · 08/01/2015 21:01

Exactly.

JeanneDeMontbaston · 08/01/2015 21:08

Where?!

The Drama channel - the home of murder mysteries. :)

EBearhug · 08/01/2015 21:34

I am willing to take on some marking if someone will do my learning of Solaris 11 sys admin commands and do my certification exam in a couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, someone sent me a nice STEM link today, and I am trying not to use it as a displacement activity. (Therefore I am in MN instead.)
