I need to step away from the computer, switch off the news and stop expressing my frustrations to people who do not and will never get it. I need a break from my feminism. I am just so sad about it all. I know it is temporary and i will be back but i can't focus on this stuff any more for now. Anyone else reaching saturation point?

YY to support.

Btw, buffy, I know this is a derail, but nice to be on a thread with you again! It hasn't been that long but feels like ages (I've got snowed under in RL).

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker · 30/10/2014 20:39

Maxine Peake, another proppa northern lass

Fabulous

JeanneDeMontbaston · 30/10/2014 20:40

Ooh ... I need to see that, BOF.

Gah, it's just finished Angry. Maybe she'll tour with it?

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 30/10/2014 20:42

Amelia Bullmore's brilliant, I think she's written a couple of this season's S&B. It's a really good show, highly worth going back to. Tell you what's also brilliant, though, Cagney & Lacey. Watched an episode on BBC2 recently and couldn't believe how brilliantly it has aged. So far ahead of its time, it must have seemed like it was being beamed from outer space.

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker · 30/10/2014 20:42

Buffy, do you know what ?

You soothe me, without ever minimising the frustration and anger.

I like Jill because it was so refreshing to find a female character so authoritative and effective in her role. She is fair, straight talking yet never aggressive, and avoided the 'harridan' stereotype. Just fantastic at her job completely seperate from any gender stereotype scaffolding.
I luff her.

I lurves Scott & Bailey but haven't seen the last episode due to me being asleep at 8:15 last night Hmm. Don't ask! Anyway no more spoilers please (I knew Jill was retiring Sad)

JeanneDeMontbaston · 30/10/2014 20:45

Not important, buffy, just busy. Smile

And, obviously, watching the wrong things on TV.

BOFster · 30/10/2014 20:46

Oh, I loved Cagney And Lacey. So fantastic. And the credits are brilliant, even if they do get upstaged by a flasher. Plus ça change...

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 30/10/2014 20:47

4 series I think. Written by Sally Wainwright, who wrote Happy Town and a few other things.
Maxine Peake also brilliant. Just finished at our local theatre playing Beryl Burton, a local cyclist who was a total pioneer. She wrote the play too.
Where is Hamlet? Tv or theatre?

BOFster · 30/10/2014 20:47

Royal Exchange, Crack. Just finished Sad

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 30/10/2014 21:02

Aaaaagh. Would loved to have seen it.
Happy Valley was the other Sally Wainwright series. Not watched it but heard good reports?
And she said this in a Guardian interview..." When you do see women's relationships on screen, they are often dramatised negatively. It's about conflict rather than women enjoying each other's company. But most women have really good relationships. They can talk to each other in a way that's very humorous and jolly and fun."
She says she likes writing female characters because women are heroic. Love that.

Pepperwitheverything · 30/10/2014 21:07

I want to play this Bingo...my man works for MI6 and Interpol (luckily he doesn't know my name on here otherwise he would really have a go....) So Olivia, do you like the Real Housewives?

BOFster · 30/10/2014 21:09

I don't know Sally Wainwright- I'll look her up, she sounds great.

OliviaBlue · 30/10/2014 21:24

@Pepperwitheverything - do you watch 24? Honey, please.

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker · 30/10/2014 21:28

I loved watching the box set of Mad Men. It was a difficult watch for a feminist though.

Pepperwitheverything · 30/10/2014 21:29

24?? If you mean the Keifer Sutherland thing I can honestly tell you I have never watched one episode. Why is it relevant?

whatdoesittake48 · 30/10/2014 23:19

Phew... that moved on didn't it? highly entertaining and lifted me right out of my funk. Now we have moved on to TV. ... can I just say that I am a huge knots landing fan. Close female friendships, strong and powerful women, most of the men are supporting roles and daft outfits. I am currently watching it daily for the 5th time since I was a teenager. I know the plot lines like the back of my hand....
Thanks for cheering me up. I am avoiding some of the other more challenging threads right now. As someone said my sadness today came from comments made by someone I thought better of. But Igguess I can't control that.

I know what you mean about TV commitment, Buffy. I'm a serial monogamist and only commit to one box set catch up at a time.
