i need a break from this feminism stuff

I need to step away from the computer, switch off the news and stop expressing my frustrations to people who do not and will never get it. I need a break from my feminism. I am just so sad about it all. I know it is temporary and i will be back but i can't focus on this stuff any more for now. Anyone else reaching saturation point?

OP posts:

And clearly I don't have an actual French maid - come on!

YellowSpoon · 30/10/2014 20:32

And in episode 3 Olivia realises she is the fun.

why focus so hard on being the same in every way when it ain't gonna happen?

I don't see your example as women competing with men though. I lift weights and I do long distance cycling. I am fully aware that I'll never compete with a 6' man (nor a 6' woman to be fair, or for that matter a trained person of either gender who is 15 years younger than me). That's not why I train. A woman can surely want to be fit and strong without it being about 'being like' or 'competing with' men? Confused

Anyway, hopefully this has made the OP see the wisdom of avoiding wallies on the internet.

It's a piss taker, folks

Move along

ballsballsballs · 30/10/2014 20:33

whatdoesittake I feel the same sometimes. It's exhausting, isn't it. 'What is seen can't be unseen' and all that.

Seconded

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 30/10/2014 20:34

So Olivia, you've told us about upper body strength. Is that what makes a man? What about men with disabilities? Or those natural ectomorphs? According to your theory, their wives 'may as well be lesbians'. Or is there more to being a man in your theory?

Meanwhile...yes! Scott and Bailey! Brilliantly written with female characters I like. My favourite line, when Jill's son announced he wanted to become a police officer..,
"What, like your Dad?"
"No, mum. Like you."
Role models beyond gender. Loved it.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 30/10/2014 20:34

AHEM AHEM

JeanneDeMontbaston · 30/10/2014 20:35

I know what you mean, whatdoes.

I feel like that, then I come back. I think it's good for us. It is tiring. And triggering. Even if you're incredibly lucky and don't suffer, unless you are very naive, you notice things in the news such as FGM, or the numbers of women murdered by their partners, or rape stats, and it is frightening and depressing.

But I think we all tag-team each other, right? There's always someone out there with energy when we need a break.

leatherlover · 30/10/2014 20:35

OP sometimes it's incredibly depressing to think that in this age where women have amazing careers, are still the main carers of children and family member (often whilst juggling a paid job too) that we are still thought of as less important than our male counterparts. We shouldn't be and we are not. You are not alone in thinking that we deserve to be treated as equals and that the 'manipulation of men' is not the point. Rest, re-evaluate then come back stronger!

OliviaBlue · 30/10/2014 20:35

But that's exactly my point BuggersMuddle!

Women should do anything they want - I'm just arguing that they can't always beat men because of physicality.

And for all you people out there who take everything SO SERIOUSLY, no I don't have a French maid and I do cook. But I do also have staff who clean and occasionally cook.

Jeez. You're all so serious and boring.

What's FWR?

Female working revival? Feminists workers rally? Far wright ring?

Yes I know I am dumb. but incredibly curious

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 30/10/2014 20:36

Sorry, Buffy. I won't engage anymore but I actually feel refreshed by being here and feeling one of many for a common goal.
I love this board. I don't often post but even lurking makes me feel I'm not alone, when in IRL I feel like a bloody radical.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 30/10/2014 20:36

Also, I'm gutted that Jill's going. I know it was an ensemble thing but she was the best character in it imho.

Yeah, I'm bored, why the hell else would I be on here?

Wolowitz, get over yourself - when was i rude to you?

You're overly sensitive.

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker · 30/10/2014 20:38

I feel like this too.

I haven't watched Scott And Bailey, but it sounds interesting. I saw Amelia Bullmore in the trailers- she wrote a wonderful radio drama that aired on Women's Hour about a month ago. Maxine Peake played the lead detective in it, bringing a family annihilator to justice. It had a very strong feminist theme- excellent radio.

Maxine Peake is about to play Hamlet as well, I believe, which is rather wonderful.
